    A quick look back:

Some time ago, an immensely powerful cosmic entity named "Phoenix" united itself with Jean Grey. The result: Jean was driven almost insane and her corporeal form was taken over by the Phoenix. It used their combined powers to obliterate an entire alien civilization. But the X-Men stood against her. Their powers resulted in her death. But the Phoenix lived on....

    Summary:

The Shi'ar have once again reconstituted the Phoenix with a goal to destroy it completely this time. The experiment drives the Phoenix insane and it comes down to Earth to unite with Jean once again. Coming back, it finds Jean dead, and refusing to be dissuaded, it ressurrects her. Then it takes over her body. Logan is the first to make contact with her. Jean tries to fight it, but the Phoenix is too powerful for her. It has come back to claim the last missing piece of its/Jean's essence, Cyclops

Later, the X-Men are warned of the presence of the Phoenix. Beast designs an egg shaped capsule to contain the Phoenix. Scott is still trying to come to terms with Emma. Meanwhile, Storm and Nightcrawler track down a Shi'ar spaceship. Upon entering the ship and questioning the crew, they hear that the Shi'ar have come to destroy the Phoenix once and for all. But suddenly, their attention is diverted to another big energy signature, manifesting at the X-Mansion. It is of omega level

The presumed dead omega level telepath, Quentin Quire has somehow risen from the dead. His sole purpose now is to find the Phoenix and with its help, bring back to life his lost love, Sophie, a sister of the Stepford Cuckoos. He digs her corpse up from the grave and follows the Phoenix.

Up in the skies, the Shi'ar detect the Phoenix and fire the event horizon weapon. Wolverine and Jean are supposedly caught in the beam's path. But later, Wolverine finds himself, resting upon Jean's lap in the Arctic Circle. Jean tells him that she should not be here. She asks Wolverine to kill her again. Wolverine complies. But the Phoenix is already taking over. It rises again and again, and Wolverine stabs Jean's body again and again. Finally, Jean takes over and buries herself in 50 feet deep ice.

Elsewhere, the Shi'ar detect Quentin and prepare to kill him. Storm negotiates with them for his life and the Shi'ar accept.

The X-Men reach the Arctic Circle and see Wolverine. Emma confirms that Jean is dead. But suddenly the Phoenix rises. It wants Scott's eye beams to power itself and tries to force him into doing so. But Emma stands between them. She says that to have Scott, the Phoenix must go through her. The Phoenix accepts the bait and unites with Emma. Scott forces Phoenix into the egg with himself, and Hank locks them up. Inside, Emma expresses her love for Scott, but feels the Phoenix taking over rapidly.

Quentin manages to escape the Shi'ar spaceship and quickly reaches the spot where the Phoenix is trapped. After a short battle with the X-Men, he manages to crack the egg and frees the Phoenix. Then, he asks it to restore Sophie back to life. It complies and resurrects her, but Sophie does not want to live. She dies again. This saddens Quentin. The Phoenix power up.

Scott calls Jean with all his heart, and she emerges from beneath the sheet of ice. She frees Emma from the Phoenix and makes it understand that what the Phoenix has come for, is not here on Earth. The X-Men express their love for Jean by uniting their minds and calling her lovingly. But that does not last long. The Shi'ar ship appears over their heads and powering up the

Scott finds Jean talking to him. She wants to see his eyes before she goes away. Scott complies and Jean bids him goodbye.

The X-Men finds themselves still sitting on the spot where the Shi'ar spaceship crashed moments ago. They know that it was Jena who helped them come back from the void of the Event Horizon. Quentin frees himself of his
