Overall, a decent film!
X-Men Origins: Wolverine was overall, a very enjoyable film. Great visuals, fast-paced action scenes, and some great characters make it entertaining and a good way to waste time.
In the beginning, the movie focuses on the story line from the Origins series. You see Wolverine (James Howlett) as a young boy in bed and sick, while his best friend (a young Sabretooth) stands by the bed. The story unfolds and it turns out that Sabretooth's father, Thomas Logan, is also Wolverine's father. Unfortunately, James kills his father with his new-found mutant abilities just as he learns who is real father is. The brothers flee, and the beginning credits start as it shows the two brothers fight side-by-side through the major wars that America has been a part of.
I loved the beginning part in the film. It was visually appealing, and I was hooked the second the movie started. I loved that they used the Origins story line, and I love that they made Sabretooth and Wolverine brothers.
James and Victor are sentenced to death after Victor brutally kills several of his fellow soldiers. Of course, neither of them die, and they are recruited by Stryker to join Team X. The members of Team X include David North (Agent Zero), John Wraith (Kestrel), Fred Dukes (Blob), Chris Bradley (Maverick), and last but not least Wade Wilson (Deadpool) **insert crazy fan girl scream**. The team goes on a mission, there are awesome action sequences, everyone gets to show off their power, but when James sees the questionable ethics of the everyone, he leaves Team X and Victor behind.
Anyway, after that, the movie started to get a bit boring, kind of slow, and not very entertaining. There was plenty of action, but I couldn't get into it. I DID enjoy seeing Logan slice through a helicopter though...
I was also VERY disappointed with the way they portrayed Gambit in this film. His character was such a loser, and he didn't do much at all. I have heard rumors of an X-Men Origins: Gambit, so there's still hope!
Anyway, I was pretty bored with the film up until when Logan breaks into Three Mile Island. He finds out that his love, Kayla, is actually alive and she was using him. He has yet another **snore** fight scene with Victor, that isn't very different from any of the other fights they'd had in the film. Kayla then asks Wolverine to help her free her sister (even though she totally betrayed him), so they free all of the mutants, some of which include a young Cyclops and Emma Frost. They use their powers to escape, and Cyclops blasts them with his eyes (which seem WAY more powerful than usual).
Stryker unveils his diabolical creation, Weapon XI, or as he calls it, "The Deadpool" **cries of rage**. The so called "Deadpool" was a freaky mash-up of Cyclops, Kestrel, Wolverine, and Wade Wilson. They sewed his mouth shut **huh?!**, gave him lazer beam eyes **whyyy?**, gave him the ability to teleport **pardon?**, and gave him sword blades that he can retract like Wolverine's claws **WTF?!**. Not to mention the horrible pun they used to explain the reason for his name. Really? He's dead and he is a pool of the other mutants genes.... Ugh. Well anyway, there was a big fight scene with Wolverine and Sabretooth working as a team to beat the SILENT Deadpool. They "win" by decapitating him, which consequently destroys basically the whole island.
Stryker then finds Logan and shoots him twice in the head with ademantium bullets, erasing his memory, but not killing him. Before Kayla dies, she makes Stryder "...walk until [his] feet bleed, and then keep walking".
At the very end of the credits, "Deadpool's" blade is seen retracting back into his arm, and his head is shown laying on the ground with the stitches ripped out, as he says "Shhhhh".
Overall, I thought this movie was really enjoyable, action packed, and a great way to waste a few hours. I HATED how they portrayed Gambit and Deadpool, but they are making a Deadpool movie that is completely different than how he was in this movie, and it will still be with Ryan Reynolds, so I think I can live with it.
I think some parts of the movie were a bit unnecessary, there were a bit too many characters which made it seem a bit cluttered, and for people who aren't fans of X-Men, I can imagine it was hard to keep track of who was who, especially because Logan changed his name without an explanation.
You also CANNOT over-analyze this movie, there are a few plot holes, but it's meant for entertainment, so just relax and enjoy the film!
