X-Men: Legacy #269 Review
X-Men: Legacy #269 Review
Overview:
Ms. Marvel shows up and talks to Rogue but a fight erupts instead.
The Good:
Well everyone knew this fight would come sooner or later, it is a classic grudge match that is really only outdone by The Thing and Namor. The results are unexpected but still not bad; they are a little inconclusive for my tastes but I bet that it will be more fully fleshed out in either the main series or those AvX VS. books. For this fight I must say that it feels much more natural than most of the other fights in most of the entire event since something has happened that they can fight about.
During the fight, Ms. Marvel is trying to talk with Rogue who really doesn’t listen and brings up points that are so valid that they should copy and paste it into the main series because she is right and it clears up what the Avengers motives are and how they are thinking long term. The idea of Ms. Marvel addressing these issues with Rogue just makes sense given their history and Rogue’s as well. Christos Gage does an excellent job with the dialogue and writing in the issue.
David Baldeon’s art is alright, the fight scenes/action shots and the big single page panels are very good.
I absolutely loved Mark Brooks cover, it is amazing.
The Bad:
The close ups of the faces are really weird; it is because Rogue and Ms. Marvel always have their mouths open and it elongates their face too much when the shadows and the colors are applied but it is more annoying than anything else.
The fight was a bit to inconclusive for me, but since it was not the point of the issue, Ms. Marvel’s message was, I can overlook it.
Verdict:
The writing brings up phenomenal points about the Phoenix Five and the Avenger’s motives for fighting them while also brining up good counter points. Combined with good art, this makes a great tie-in to AvX and a solid Legacy issue as well.
