X-Men: Legacy # 265 Review
Overview:
The team deals with the bomb situation and s@#% gets real
The Good:
This issue was able to hit on an emotional level that is usually not found on a book like this, or comics in general simply due to the medium and the target audience. Anyone who really likes B- or C-level characters like Mimic and Weapon Omega will simultaneously love and hate this issue, but mostly love. Beast and Rachel Summers come up with a last resort plan to deal with the bomb and it isn’t pretty and in the last few pages it comes into play. It hits hard.
One thing that I really like about this book is that even though the main focus is on Rogue, other people are important too. Currently the Gambit-Frenzy-Rogue love triangle thing is on the back burner but still cooking and characters like Husk and Toad have some cool input, particularly Toad.
Rafa Sandoval’s art is pretty good too, it fits the story but I don’t know if he should stay on as the permanent artist.
The Bad:
Not much, there was a timer in the corner of some panels, counting down until Rogue, Mimic, and Weapon Omega would explode. While it wasn’t bad, it seemed like some things that would take a few seconds took five minute; sometimes this would interrupt the flow of some of the conversations.
While Sandoval’s art isn’t bad, Rouge’s hair is.
Verdict:
A good issue that has an emotional punch without being overly dramatic. Christos Gage really shows off his serious side as he wraps this arc up. I wish that some focus would shift from Rogue though.
