X-Men Legacy #237
Second Coming: Chapter 12
The cover of this issue makes the hope of what is going on in the future look very dim. Another excellent cover by Granov. This story is unfortunately penciled by Greg Land. He impressed me again this issue however. The use of “porno face” on the female characters was kept to a minimum and he only drew a couple ladies in obscure positions. I did think he made Hope look the same age as Cyclops, which didn’t make much sense. How old is she now? Still no defined powers…the way she is drawn puberty happened awhile ago.
The writing for this story continues to be amazing, especially the use of Cypher as a foil. (Or two-handed bastard sword…which ever you prefer.)
Other than the goings on in the future this issue seems to center on the primary X-Men, Magneto and Hope in their role in the battle. That disappointed me because the stuff with Legion was pretty cool and I wanted to see more of that. The fight panels in this book where okay, but aside from how old Hope looks my favorite page in the book was the spread splash-page that showed both the current and future battles.
Things are looking up for the X-Men towards the end of this issue, and there is still another surprise coming through the portal.
I want to say so much more about the issue but it would spoil an action packed and eventful part of this arc. People that have been missing X-titles are definitely missing out on something that is going to again change the status quo for mutants.
4.5 out of 5 Ways to Kill a Nimrod (Land made this one lose .5 in my eyes.)
