Deconstructing Xavier
Issues # 208 to 210
Arc Story - From Genesis to Revelation
W - Mike Carey, P - Scot Eaton with the help of John Romita Jr, Billy Tan and Greg Land
The Story - After the events of Messiah Complex, Xavier is taken by Exodus and his Acolytes (Tempo used her powers to slow down time and then they grabbed Professor X after Bishop shot him), who is trying to reconstruct his brain, but since Xavier has a protective shield blocking his atempts, Exodus has to erase his brain completely, in order to put together the pieces after. To make Xavier get out of his coma he asks for Erik Lensherr to help, what proves to be a good tatic since it works. So Xavier and Exodus engage in a psychic battle ´cause that´s Exodus´plan to reconstruct Xavier mind, and he initiates the fight by the argument that he has to kill Erick (since the neraly did killed Joanna Cargill (A.K.A Frenzy).
The Good - It´s a solid narrative by Mike Carey, who uses the advantage of telling the story both in the present and in the past. The flashbacks scenes are very cool, and I´m a big fan of John Romita Jr, Billy Tan (his participation was the weakest of the three of them )and Greg Land, and it´s good to put Xavier as a main character of the comic book: he is facing a new beggining and has to face all his mistakes, all his students deaths, the birth of the Sentinels, the confrontations with Magneto, his love frustrations, the genocide of Genosha etc., so for me these issues are excellent for new readers of The X-Men, all credit of Careys´s writting, ´cause he creates a background for the characters, both in the present and in the past. Scot Eaton´s art is pretty good, nice scenes, vivid colors, what helps the final product.
The Bad - I´m not very fond of the idea of resurrections, rebirths etc. so I didn´t like very much the fact that Charles Xavier took a bullet in his head (and let´s face it, it was a big freagging bullet) and didn´t died, but it was better than killing him just to make him come back after a ten issue run.
