    Cave Story

    THE BASICS

Gorilla Gro—wait, that's not right. Let me check the character list… Oh! Gorilla Man leads the young X-Men through Africa in search of Proffessor X after Jean is the victim of a disturbingly vivid dream that depicts Xavier in danger.

    MY COMPLIMENTS TO THE CHEF

    • This issue continued the return to form started by the previous book in the series. Action and great dialogue are balanced really well and the focus is again on the main characters. It never felt like Gorilla Man was the main attraction in this story.

    • *obligatory statement about how funny this comic is, followed by an example that's really only funny in context*

    • I feel like it's been too long since I praised the art in this series. Like I mentioned in my earlier reviews, I love the style and everything looks bright and vivid here. The jungle looks especially nice and the action scenes are drawn and colored superbly.

FEEL THE STING OF MY DISCONTENT!

    • This seems like a weak closer to this series to me. This issue is good, don't get me wrong, but I expected the end to come with more of a bang. Volume one just kind of flops over the finish line.

    I'M JUST SAYING

Why do characters in stories keep getting into rickety little wooden boats? Nothing good ever comes from that; they're just asking for trouble. At first, everything will be fine and dandy, but then, a particular substance is gonna hit the figurative fan and crocodiles or giant space iguanas or what have you are gonna tear the boat to shreds and try to eat the heroes for lunch. They just keep on doing it, though. Do they not have movies in their universe?

Here's a thought. Since characters in movies, TV shows, books and comics express a startling ignorance of common and dangerous story cliches, (with the exception of a genre savvy hero or two) do you think that they have their own set of cliches common in their fictional media that we ignore in our everyday lives?

    Hmm, probably not.

    WAIT, WHAT?

WHEN ALL IS SAID AND DONE

None of the issues in this series were particularly bad, but it had some pretty low points. Still, at least it ended on a solidly positive note.

    Overall series rating: 2.5/5.0
