    On the verge of extinction

There's cross overs and then there's X-Men Cross Overs. All X-Men fans know what I mean. Every time we get an X-Men cross over, we expect something of monumental proportions to happen. They also have a tendency to involve story plots that are sometimes a decade old or more. And of course we love it. We don't care if most of today's fans weren't reading X-Men when that particular plot even started.

This one doesn't seem to involve anything that far back... but it does involve a storyline that was almost ignored. The repercussions of House of M haven't really been dissected since it finished. I mean it put the mutants on the verge of extinction, and no writer seemed to do anything with that. So finally we get X-Men Endangered Species.

This one-shot doesn't really reveal anything, but sets the tone for what is to come. I must admit it was nice to finally see different factions of the X-Men actually acknowledging the problem. There's no surprises really, and no action to speak of. It's almost a depressing read that might turn off some people, but I thought it was appropriate and about time. I'm not sure if I'd agree that this should have been done in a one shot however. It might have been more appropriate for it to be in one of the monthly titles... but then again it doesn't feature any particular team.

The artwork is nicely done and fits the mood perfectly. I just don't see this as a "must read" however for the Endangered Species storyline.
