Third Genesis?
This is a comic whose reputation truly precedes it. The X-men here are approaching the incredible peak of their popularity. Jim Lee was the wunderkind setting the world on fire, and Mr. Claremont was still venerated as the definitive X-men writer. This is also a book knee deep in the 90's. Many of the books from this decade did not age well, but this one doesn't fare too badly. The story concerns the classic X-men/Magneto rivalry, with the interesting twist of a new team of evil allies for Magneto known as the Acolytes. While, I've never been a big fan of the Acolytes they can't diminish a great characterization of Magneto here. Claremont writes the master of magnetism like few others. That said, Claremont's wordy style is a little dated, and there's several lines of text that feel superfluous. As for Jim Lee, this is rightfully one of his claims to fame, and his style is raw and unfettered here. I'd say this comic is a good read, for X-fans, and anyone interested in Jim's work.
