Robert Liefeld Comments on the X-Force Movie Script

It's clear Fox has huge plans for their Marvel properties and is hoping to compete with Marvel Studios and WB. They've reeled in Mark Millar to serve as a consultant and they're even tackling the classic story, Days of Future Past, in their next X-Men film. We also know they're looking to go beyond just the basic X-Men and Fantastic Four characters, though. It was previously announced Kick-Ass 2 director/writer Jeff Wadlow will eventually bring X-Force to the big screen. Today, Robert Liefeld said on Twitter he was able to check out Wadlow's script and, as expected, he was positive about it. But his praise is worth bringing up because he dropped a couple of very interesting remarks... especially if you're a Deadpool fan.

Last we heard, the team's roster will have five characters. Seeing as characters like Warpath, Sunspot, Bishop and Blink are being introduced in X-Men: Days of Future Past, it wouldn't be surprising if a couple of them made the cut. Cable and Deadpool have always felt like logical and even likely choices for the movie, and now Liefeld's tweets certainly seem to imply they'll have good roles in the upcoming movie -- especially if he's saying it seems "perfectly plausible" for a Deadpool movie to drop less than a year after X-Force. There's still a lot of details about the project which have yet to be released, but for right now, it's great to hear there's going to be at least some degree of fan service for those two characters.

Viners, do Liefeld's tweets get you excited for Wadlow's X-Force or are you taking his praise with a grain of salt? Speak your mind below.

I am so excited for X-Men: Days of Future Past and the (Ultimate) Fantastic Four reboot. X-men: First Class and The Wolverine were good!

Bishop, Cable, and Deadpool in the same movie sounds awesome! It would be cool if Psylocke and Fantomex were thrown in for good measure. From what we've seen/heard of Bishop in DOFP, it sounds like he and Blink have a Wolverine/Rogue relationship, which sounds cool. Omar Sy is just awesome.

Ryan Reynolds has been saying that a Deadpool film was close to being greenlit for several weeks now, and Mark Millar mentioned that Fox has like10-15 properties it's interested in/thinking about making on.

Hopefully these Fox movies build to something big--like the Ultimate Galactus Trilogy. Or maybe the Fantastic Four can help the X-Men and X-Force to discover the Shia'r Empire?

I just have to wonder who the X-Force will battle and what their mission statement will be on film.

can't wait, since First Class I've been really amped on the crop of X-Men films coming!!

I hadn't realized they were far enough along to have a draft of the movie. I'm excited!

The fact that Liefield is positive about something gives me pause. But I will likely be there to see it in the theater. I gotta support my X-Men, even if they aren't under the holy, Marvel cinematic umbrella.

Glad to hear that they haven't completely scrapped the whole Deadpool movie idea. I like that they're expanding the X-Universe by branching out into uncharted waters so-to-speak.

Hopefully the X-men roster after DOFP is this one:

I hope in the end Liefeld doesn't get much say in the actual plot and direction of the movie.

He's probably just a guy who gives advice about who the characters are--like Chris Claremont with the first X-men film.

Sunspot will be in DOFP? I didn't know.

Liefeld being positive about X-Force makes me confuse. I just hope that Domino will be in the movie.

X-Men is my favorite franchise. I love X-Force. X-Men films look like they have an extremely bright future. I. Am. Excited.

I'd be more worried about him having a say about casting.

The X-Men don't make much sense in the normal Marvel Universe with the Avengers anyway. It makes the Avengers look like A-holes for not taking a bigger part in mutant affairs, it makes the humans look even dumber than normal for splitting hairs about powers, etc. At least with the Fantastic Four, the humans only start to like them once they are celebs...

Plus, the split allows for more movies total and allows for Marvel Studios to give attention to lesser known characters. I think we all win on that front. :D

More on the latter than the former. Too bad that Marvel killed off their Ultimate Universe X-Men.

Hopefully the X-men roster after DOFP is one of these two options:

@darthfury78: Yup, Ultimate X-Men was so good until Kirkman ruined everything.

Agreed. I prefer the X-Men in their own universe, as it allows more focus on the various X-characters.

I'm seeing some great ideas in this comment section. I hope Fox releases the info about the 5 heroes on the roster soon. I also hope that Fox captures the super commando feel of the book.

The Fox-verse has a lot o potential. Maybe we'll see X-Force vs X-Men down the line.

With Marvel 616 being an "Avengers world" now the FF and X-Men should find another reality to live in like the movies.

#24 Posted by Renchamp (2928 posts) - - Show Bio

Some seem to forget that Liefeld's creation wasn't that bad. His Cable was awesome. He created the Domino persona and Deadpool for the same issue. He gave it that militaristic feel. I am glad he approves so far.

I was hoping Deadpool would be involved somehow. Was really hoping they would adapt Remender's stories but replace Wolvie with Cable, but I doubt that's the case

I can see it now X-Force vs Avengers vs X-Men

X-Force: Cable and the New Mutants is where Cable forms what will become the first X-Force team. X-Force: A Force to be Reckoned With is the shaping of the militaristic feel. This one includes Deadpool's first appearance, as well as that for my lady Domino. These are absolutely dated but still fun reads.

The best part about this is the possibility of seeing the Deadpool movie soon. Whether or not this movie is good, the script for that movie was amazing (the first couple of pages anyway, didn't want to read the whole thing and spoil it).

It got leaked online. In an interview they confirmed it was the official script and I believe it's still more or less the one they're using.

I feel like these statements always have to be taken lightly. When has anyone even talked about a movie like this and not said it would thrill fans or be awesome? I'm not saying the movie won't be amazing, but I remember hearing this kind of stuff for The Last Airbender, Wolverine Origins, and Dragonball Evolution.

Hopefully the X-men roster after DOFP is this one:

This was more or less the roster in the second X-Men film.

Also, that roster is like 3 decades old.
