Pop Life... Everyone needs a thrill

One of the most talked about series every from Marvel was X-Force in the hands of Peter Milligan and Michael Allred.  The two creators did Marvel comics Vertigo style (with Axel Alonso editing), by revamping a overlooked title and making it a mature intelligent read.  Instead of killing off all the older X-Force members, the dynamic duo of Milligan and Allred introduced their own crew of mutants to do as they please.  Some of their creations didn't even last a full issue.

This series was talked about because all the "Cool kids" loved it, from Brian Azzarello to Kevin Smith.  The hardcore X-Force fans from Rob Liefeld era hated what Milligan and Allred were doing with the series.  So this X-Force team would later become X-Statix. Sometimes pushing the envelop is a good thing and this series was and that is why it was allowed to grow into something bigger.

Book #1: New Beginning is a great introduction to the X-Static crew.
I reviewed the first two issues of this trade: HERE and HERE

This series is Pop culture meets mutants and it is great.  This X-Force team are like Mutants on a MTV reality show having their missions recorded by Doop.  Peter Milligan explores a lot of deep topics, like the value of a single life to the importance of having endorsements.  This is a smart book that looks wonderful with Mike Allreds' art.

This is a book that everyone should read.  It has that Vertigo edge but is a Marvel book.
    Cheers!
