Things keep getting worse for Roberto Da Costa, but money troubles and having an evil doppelganger are nothing compared to having said doppelganger take over his body!

At a board meeting of Dacosta International at their San Francisco headquarters, CEO Getulio Villa-Lobos announces he’s contracted professionals to end the threat posed by Reignfire, whom they believe to Roberto ‘Bobby’ DaCosta, aka Sunspot of X-Force.

Outside the burning wreckage of a Las Vegas casino destroyed by Reignfire, the other members of X-Force look on as Bobby hovers above them, fully possessed by Reignfire’s essense. Hoping that the possession has not become permanent, the team attack, but they hold back to avoid injuring Bobby. James Proudstar and Dani Moonstar attempt a ‘fastball special’, with James hurling Dani toward the villain to get a closer shot, but it has little effect. Reignfire then turns his attention to Tabitha Smith (Meltdown), but she defends herself by generating a well-placed time-bomb, forcing him to back off. Meanwhile, Theresa Rourke (Siryn) finds and confronts Dr. Sigismund Joshua, the geneticist who, two years earlier, experimented on Bobby and Reignfire, and who has now come to Vegas to destroy the villain.

Theresa forces him to explain who or what Reignfire is. Joshua descibes his discovery of the the creature, whose body was shapeless ectoplasm, which he dubbed Project Nineteen. While Joshua was experimenting on the captive Bobby, the geneticist had introduced a sample of Sunspot's cell tissue into Nineteen, causing the mass to shape itself into a duplicate of Bobby. Before long, Nineteen had escaped, to resurface months later as Reignfire. Theresa then demands Joshua’s assistance to separate the two mutants. He advises X-Force to simultaneously hit Reignfire with everything they’ve got.

Meanwhile, in the mountains of Latveria, the displaced Locus and Sally Blevins regain consciousness after a backlash of their combined powers transported them there from Vegas. Sally tells Locus they’ll have to cooperate to survive, but Locus lunges at her. Suddenly, both are mystically entranced by an unseen figure.

Back in Vegas, Bobby fights for control of his body, as they crash into an Elvis-themed wedding chapel. The rest of X-Force enter, using their combined powers, which, in concert with the molecular disruptor wielded by James, succeed in exorcising Reignfire from Bobby. Having learned new uses of his power from the villain, Bobby absorbs Reignfire’s heat into himself, restoring his mutant abilities. At this point, a team of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents arrive to take into custody Dr. Joshua and whatever is left of Reignfire.

Some time later, Bobby visits the DaCosta International office of Villa-Lobos. Within minutes, the CEO’s contracted professionals arrive to protect the businessman, but he informs the guardians, who are revealed to be the Heroes for Hire (Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight and Colleen Wing), Bobby is not the threat he had believed him to be. After the Heroes leave, Bobby arranges for the release of some of his funds and a lease on an unused company warehouse in the city. Later, the team arrives in San Francisco. Bobby brings them to their new headquarters and surprises them with a planned vacation to Hawaii.
