The Jeph Loeb run in X-Force is difficult to swallow at times. His arrival really switched things up. One of the biggest is Boomer/Meltdown's attitude shift. While I don't approve of the harsher change this little firecracker has made, I do love how Loeb writes it. The new attitude is acknowledged by everyone and this change brings a few concerns. These aren't merely looked over so as to pop up in uncomfortable situations (convenient conflict for the future) but they are approached head on. In this issue, Domino has specifically chosen Meltdown to see how she copes on a mission. The result: not very well. Meltdown does a great job, but it's a job that will take some getting used to. (Threatening to blow up the Blob from the inside out? Yikes.) So, while I hate that the change has been made, I do love how the change is being written. It's not some stupid subplot that crops up when there is nothing else to write about; it's a change that will alter the team dynamic. Curses, Mr. Loeb. Curses with praise.
