You Got My Attention, X-Men
So I haven't reviewed any of "Second Coming" to this point. I've been off the X-Men wagon for a while and wanted to get my legs back under me, so to speak. I've loved the storyline so far. The action, the pace, the inter-title action reminds me a lot of "Sinestro Corps War." That's a pretty good storyline to be on par with. Let's see what happens here...
THE GOOD:
- What was the solicit for this one? An X-Man will die? Well, one did. It's obviously carrying the weight of this issue. I can't complain about it. In this issue, and in this storyline, it fit. It made sense and was handled very well.
- There's a lot going on, a really big moment, and everything's handled well throughout the hectic war. That's a credit to the writers.
- The art stands up. Unlike the last issue, I don't see a lot of similar art. Mike Choi really did a great job. Really crisp lines, really good layout, and some spectacular splashes.
- I've never seen it before, so if it has been done excuse the excitement, but I did enjoy the 'female' Cannonball Special.
THE BAD:
- While the 'A' storyline did well. I don't feel as if the secondary storylines were all that impressive. Just kind of seemed like an afterthought.
- So, one X-Man was kind of unaccounted for when the issue was all said and done. I'm hoping they address it early in chapter 6.
- Cliffhanger was kind of meh.
OVERALL:
The story continues to move along pretty well. I guess my biggest concern at the moment is how this story will stretch to 14 chapters. I just am having a hard time figuring out what else will happen considering that we're not even halfway through the storyline. It's been a great story though and has pulled a lot of attention to the X-verse (present reviewer included). The issue's strong, had me engaged, and definitely got a response with the death. I may have not been paying attention to the X-Men, but they have my attention now. All in all, I'd recommend it.
