The Chopper! Get To It!
I've been pleased with the pacing of this series so far. We get more of 23's back story in this issue and it balances action and entertaining info dumps really well. I'm impressed with just how well the writers have been able to capture my interest in both the "present day" story as well as the story that 23 is telling to Cap and Murdock. (I'm also interested in finding out just how both of them got involved).
We get to see the "trigger scent" in action here, and I was quite pleased. I liked how whenever 23 became aware of the scent, the point of view would change for a panel or two and we'd get to see things from her perspective. It looks as though her night vision mode is turned on, with whoever has the scent on them lit up like a beacon. It was very reminiscent of the Predator movies (if you've seen the movies, you know why), and anything associated with that is going to instantly call to mind brutality, which is what I'm sure they were going for.
I really liked the ending of this issue. I was expecting it to happen, but not in the way that it did. Those are often the best kind, I think; the endings you see coming, but really don't (if that makes sense). Had I read this series while it was first coming out, the itch for the next issue would be almost unbearable. Fortunately, release schedules aren't a hindrance nearly four years after the fact, so I was able to jump right into the next issue.
Another great read.
