Move aside Logan, here comes X-23
This is a review coming from a guy who haven't really kept up with X-men in a while, Other than the Second Coming arc. My knowledge of the character X-23 aka Laura Kinney only goes back to the canceled series MYX, X-23: Innocence Lost, Wolverine and the X-men, and the last couple of issues of X-Force during Second Coming (and recently being added to the roster of Marvel vs Capcom 3 FTW).
Pros:
This takes place right after Second Coming and after Wolverine "disbanded" X-Force. Laura is trying to find her purpose other than being a weapon. Compared to Logan, the thoughts of the blood she's spilled runs deeper than his. Deep down, she wants to be something other than a killer. Laura also finds out where she stands with her friends after keeping X-Force from them. We even see the perspectives of Laura from the other X-men such as Scott, Emma, and a Logan. From my knowledge from the older X-men comics and cartoon, having Storm talk to Laura is a nice touch, as Storm is one of the older members of the X-men and she plays a bit of the motherly role in this issue.
This issue also provides a recap for those who are new to her character and not familiar with X-23 background.
When it comes to the artwork, the one artist I'm more familiar with drawing X-23 is Mike Choi, but Will Conrad does a great job as well. The cover by Danni Shinnya Luo looks great as well.
Cons:
I don't really have a complaint about this issue. As a note, I'm hoping I won't have to read too much of Wolverine or Draken, since apparently, this first arc is a tie-in to Wolverine in Hell.
Overall, this is a great start for X-23. I'm hoping this might be a good way for me to get back into X-men along with getting to know X-23 even more.
