The WWF Battlemania series by Valiant comics took the pro wrestling superstars of the WWF (now known as the WWE) and placed them in a series of fictional, self-contained stories. Each magazine-format issue of the 5-issue series featured two different stories that pitted WWF good guys against their evil counterparts in stories that take place away from the ring and put the stars in typical comic book hero and villain roles.
Issue number one focused on Texas Tornado Kerry Von Erich against Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig and a tense sparring session between "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase and his bodyguard Virgil that takes place throughout DiBiase's mansion. Issue two saw "Queen" Sherri Martel as she tried to thwart the training of hero Ultimate Warrior as he prepared to face her "Macho King" Randy Savage, and a banquet brawl between the duos known as the Bushwhackers and The Nasty Boys. Issue four sees fights between The prison guard Big Bossman and The Canadian Mountie Jauques Rougeau, and Ultimate Warrior and "Iraqi Sympathizer" Sgt. Slaughter (this was in 1991 during the original Gulf War conflict and the WWF had turned 80s American Patriot Sgt. Slaughter into an Iraqi turncoat).
Issue four capatilized on the phenom that was the instant popularity of villainous newcomer The Undertaker by featuring him in both stories in the issue, as he faced the Big Bossman and The Ultimate Warrior in his mentor Paul Bearer's funeral parlor. Finally, issue five concentrated on Sid Justice and Jake the Snake Roberts fight through the streets of an unnamed city, and the "Legion Of Doom" team of Hawk and Animal (in a strange role as animal rights defenders) against Earthquake and Typhoon, The Natural Disasters.
In 1999 Chaos! Comics made a partnership with the WWF which gave WWF Superstars Stone Cold,Undertaker and Chyna their very own comic book series
