Founder of the Wrecking Crew, Garthwaite was committing crime with a crowbar, when he haphazardly robbed a hotel room occupied by a power-stripped Loki. Karnilla accidentally instilled Wrecker and his crowbar with divine Asgardian power.
Origin
Dirk Garthwaite was a manual laborer employed by a demolitions company who was fired for his antisocial behavior and emotional outbursts. Deciding to turn his talent for mayhem and destruction to criminal activity, Garthwaite fashioned himself a simple costume to conceal his identity. He then committed a series of crimes under the name of the Wrecker, his trademark being the crowbar with which he devastated the scene of the crime. The Wrecker became more daring with each theft, and continually evaded the attempts of the police to capture him.
Seeking another victim to rob, the Wrecker happened upon a hotel room occupied by Loki, the Asgardian god of evil, whose magical powers had at that time been temporarily removed by the Asgardian monarch Odin. The Wrecker smashed his way in while Loki was in the midst of summoning his sometime ally Karnilla the Norn Queen. Loki hoped that Karnilla would grant him magical power with which he could battle his archenemy Thor, the Asgardian thunder god. The Wrecker overpowered Loki. Then, while trying on Loki's horned helmet, the Wrecker was mistaken for the god when Karnilla hastily materialized to grant Loki's request. Thus it was the Wrecker whom Karnilla endowed with magical power. This power gave the Wrecker superhuman strength, which he used to embark upon a brazen wrecking spree, no longer fearing the authorities.
Currently
After numerous exploits and a run-in with the Runaways, Wrecker is currently not in possession of his enchanted crowbar. Luke Cage used his crowbar to beat Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers after they aided him in his search for his kidnapped daughter.Wrecker and his crew are currently working for the Hood, all are members of the Hood's Gang.
While in the Hood's Gang, Dirk fought the Enforcers and Daredevil over a power struggle between the two gangs. During the Secret Invasion he fought the Skrulls next to the heroes to save earth. He also, has fought the the New Avengers along side his Wrecking Crew and others of the Hood's Gang.
Powers
Thanks to Asgardian magicks, The Wrecker has superhuman strength and a high degree of resistance to harm. His bone, muscle, and flesh were all enhanced by the magical power of Karmilla the Norn Queen. His skin can withstand the impact of a .45 caliber bullet. The Wrecker has established a mental link with his crowbar. He can transfer power into the crowbar and then later take the power back into himself. When he touches the crowbar he changes into his costume. If he throws his crow bar it will return to him. To some extent he can control the path the crow bar takes. Originally, The Wrecker was able to lift about 40 tons, but would lose a portion of his strength when he divided his power among the Wrecking Crew, limiting his strength to lifting only 10 tons. However, he is now able to retain his usual power and empower the Wrecking Crew. He was only able to match Thor's power when Thor was diminished by Odin.
Paraphernalia
The Wrecker carries a 4-foot long steel crowbar that was also affected by Karnilla’s magical enchantment, becoming virtually indestructible. It is able to store and release the Wrecker's enchantment, enabling him to share it among the Wrecker and the rest of his Crew. Wielded by the superhumanly strong Wrecker, the crowbar becomes a weapon of vast destructive potential. The Wrecker has used the crowbar to demolish entire buildings in minutes and to hold off the thunder god Thor in battle. The Wrecker has used the crowbar offensively as both a throwing weapon and a bat.| Super Name: | Wrecker |
