Worlds’ Finest #4 Review
Worlds’ Finest #4 Review
Overview:
Power Girl and Huntress finish off Hakkou.
The Good:
The story was good and there was only one flashback! The relative lack of flashbacks was a good thing and a bad thing at the same time, it was good because the story moved on, this fight lasted for four issues and really could have been summed up in two or three but it all worked out in the end.
The writing by Paul Levitz was good; the dialogue was the high point of this story arc. In particular the flashback scenes; Levitz has a really good handle on the friendship of these two characters and it shines through in them. The present day scenes’ dialogue is mostly filled with communication between the two as they coordinate the fight. The dynamic between them is good and has been getting better and better as the series progresses.
The art was really good as well, the present day scenes were done by George Perez and Scott Koblish and they are very detailed and expressive and it really adds to the fight and fits well. The flash back was done by Kevin Maguire and colored by Rosemary Cheetham and fit perfectly with the more light-hearted atmosphere by being brighter and dome in a more simple style.
There is a part where a man tries to backhand Power Girl and breaks his hand, which brings up a good point: if a human punched or kicked a Kryptonian, would they break bones or just be stopped? I really can’t think of a time when Superman has been attacked by someone nor using a weapon, which is usually broken or otherwise useless. Food for thought.
The Bad:
Nothing much, the way the fight ended was a little vague and not the strongest ending but since the story is moving on, I don’t really care.
Verdict:
The boob window returned for better or worse but I doubt it is staying (though with a theme of Power Girl’s poor impulse control it is only 55/45 that it will go). This first arc was a good introduction but it was slow and now that it is over hopefully the series will cut back on the flashbacks but keep the dynamic they have. Either way is good though. So far this series has been consistent and a solid read for any fan of the characters.
