    Wonder Woman

Character » Wonder Woman appears in 8805 issues.

The Amazon princess, blessed with god-like super abilities, Wonder Woman is one of Earth's most powerful defenders of peace, justice, and equality and a member of the Justice League. She is considered an archetype for many heroines outside of comic book. Her initial origin depicted her as a clay baby brought to life by patron goddess Aphrodite, but in recent years she has been depicted as the daughter of Zeus and Amazon queen Hippolyta.

WW in 20s and WW2 is a defecatingly stupid idea

This is the hallmark of laziness when it comes to Wonder Woman and her mythos: sticking her in a period piece because she first appeared in WW2. The Young Justice guys did it, Bruce Timm did it with Steve Trevor, and Joss Whedon tried to do it before his (honestly crappy sounding) Wonder Woman movie was cancelled. Tell me, what possibly interesting story could come of this idiocy? Fist off, Pre-Crisis Wonder Woman sucked donkey boys, and the character didn't become good until Perez got a hold of her. Secondly, the WW2 era stuff was just an excuse for Marston to write fap material for himself. On top of that, this whole 20s idea will just be to have a movie where WW does nothing but preachy stuff for the sake of women's suffrage. That's like if that Black Panther movie is set during the Civil Rights Movement, just because he's black. None of WW's interesting characters or stories can be done in this era, and how the hell could it work if it happens before MoS, yet she's supposedly out doing superhero crap in the 20s? Just plain dumbassery.......

@judasnixon: why? Yeah and it should have a flapped girl in a cheetah costume named Priscilla, a speakeasy called Colchis run by a woman named Circe, a muscle bound dyke named Giganta who is in a freak show, and a gangster named Ares Buchanan. Don't forget the town midget psychologist Dr. Psycho, the little man with the big ol'.......mind.

Umm.. first of all, Pre-Crisis Wonder Woman was amazing. Marston's run on Wonder Woman is the single greatest run on Wonder Woman ever. She's defined, she has purpose, she has a life, she's more than just a superhero. It's the only time in Wonder Woman's history when she's had massive success in sales (over a million copies sold of each issue!), she had 2 on-goings when she STARED in (Sensation Comics and Wonder Woman, which was originally quarterly, but a full comic unlike Sensation where she was just the headliner in one of the anthology stories), and she was so popular she spawned her own comic strip. Marston's run is the most popular FOR A REASON. There is a reason why no other writer and no other attempt at Wonder Woman has ever been all that popular. He did her best, period. Perez's run was solid, but removing Diana Prince from her life and Steve Trevor and making her more violent (which lead to the current Azzarello run in all honesty) was a terrible idea. Diana became, because writers didn't know what to do with her, slowly more and more cut off from humanity and she became very remote, very distant. The writing was often lacking and her character was more judgmental virgin goddess than fleshed out, real character with any life experience to speak of.

As for 1920's WW, it is insanely stupid and that's why it's not actually happening. First of all, Diana has no connection to the 1920's at all. Second, the rumor is the 2nd movie will be set in 1942 during WWII and Justice League will bring her to the present, but.. Justice League is set to come out shortly after WW, there is no time for a sequel. Also there is really nothing happening in the world in 1920 to bring Wonder Woman off her island. No reason for her to leave at all.

Then you have the whole issue with her being in the present when she first appears in Dawn of Justice, so you have to explain why she's now alive in the 1920's in a movie set in the 1920s. It's a little more difficult to explain.

Spiderman Noir, Marvel 1602, Superman Red Son and the X Men: First Class film prove that superhero period pieces can be awesome.

If anything, the fact it's gonna be set in the 20's made me way more interested in the movie.

It'd be more so Thor, since WW is immortal and not just a guy who wakes up in the (then) future.

well it is a WW fan forum ... what do you expect? People have been waiting for decades to see her on film ... so what if it's a period piece? I don't much care if it's in the 1920s or the modern age or something in between as long as it's a good story and portrays her well.

It wouldn't be a problem if in BvS she is shown to be immortal, I think they will start out the 1920's as her being a human living out her life without trully knowing her heritage and so she discovers she is a demigod through the film.So that whatever threat she faces is plausibly dangerous and only in the end of the film is she bestowed with immortality. It could work.

Gjgp27 .If you're honest with yourself you'll see no comic story is too original all great stories borrow from archaic lore. Wonder Woman borrows on Greek myth directly so I don't see the problem with the similarity. For example Superman story as cool as it looks is more of a modernised retelling of the story of biblical Moses, found by another people, gets an epiphany, tries to lead people on a greater path to realise some sort of utopia. It's nothing new! Constantine borrows from Faustian lore. Batman takes no credit for any ancient archetype because his story is too simple

I don't like it either. I just Wonder Woman and her mythology adapted to a modern context, which means she starts out now instead of having been around in the 20s.

Umm, this post is wack. Wonder Woman in the 1920's is a fantastic idea, and more suited for her than even Captain America. She will likely be immortal or will live an extremely long life, so it makes sense she won't be aged at all in the present day movies. She is introduced to the word right after when women have just gotten the right to vote but before the blatant racismracism in World War 2? Perfect opportunity to see her develop into someone who understands "Man's World" and even becomes a key political ambassador in the future, as well as adds to the enigma of her age and origins. She will be extremely shocked when she sees what the real world is like in comparison to her homeland, and like any well-written character, it will allow for her views to change
