    Wonder Woman

Character » Wonder Woman appears in 8808 issues.

The Amazon princess, blessed with god-like super abilities, Wonder Woman is one of Earth's most powerful defenders of peace, justice, and equality and a member of the Justice League. She is considered an archetype for many heroines outside of comic book. Her initial origin depicted her as a clay baby brought to life by patron goddess Aphrodite, but in recent years she has been depicted as the daughter of Zeus and Amazon queen Hippolyta.

    Wonder Woman's JLA counterpart.

In JLA, Katana is Diana's counterpart. I think it is a poor choice, Katana uses only a sword to fight. Granted it is magic but still they could of went with a better choice. I think they should of went with Isis (Adriana Tomaz). She is in Diana's power range and could reasonably beat Diana. Isis was a woman named Adriana Tomaz who was giving an amulet that when she said " I am Isis", she became a heroine. Black Adam gave it to her after he fell in love with her.

She is super humanly strong and is easily capable of lifting far in excess of 100 tons, putting her on the same level as Supergirl, Power Girl, Mary Marvel, and Wonder Woman. She is also incredibly durable and cannot be harmed by physical force unless the being she is engaged with is stronger than her. She is also totally bulletproof and bladed weapons shatter against her skin. She is super-humanly fast, capable of moving at speeds past Mach 10 on Earth. She also has far superior reflexes and agility when compared to normal humans, or even other superhumans. Isis is also able to mystically fly through the air at incredible speeds and can travel across and around the planet in minutes. Like the other Marvels, Isis possesses an immense degree of superhuman intelligence, allowing her to come up with solutions to complicated problems quickly. Unlike the other Marvels, Isis' powers focus on the control of nature. She has control over water, fire, earth, air and electricity and can control the weather and the lava within the Earth. These powers are tied to her emotions. When she cried, it began to rain and when she grew angry, enormous roses crushed the buildings around her. Simply put, Isis is nature and can control its every aspect. In addition to her manipulation of natural materials, Isis possesses the power of telekinesis, allowing her to lift objects, fire blasts of telekinetic force, and to create telekinetic shields. Isis' godly energies are able to heal nearly any wound that she has been inflicted (though she has died before) with surprising speed

Has Isis be introduced into the DCnU yet? I also think Katana is a bad choice, but we have barely got Shazam & Black Adam reintroduced, I think it would not make a lot of since to already have the extended members of the Marvel Family coming so quick.

If it had been thought out properly (which it does not appear to have been), it would have been an excellent way to re-introduce the Bana Amazons. Artemis easily foils Diana and they've always been rather competitive before. She's just as strong and as good a fighter, if not better.

Maybe.... someone find where Exoristos (Demon Knights) is in present time. She already has a good reason for wanting to beat up the kid of the queen that banished her.

Or.... yep, I'm all out for the moment

the entire point is to boost Katana's popularity. Johns is giving her a major boost (she's already been boosted to Deathstroke's rival)

Yeah, Katana seems a little out classed when it comes to Wonder Woman. I like all of the alternatives presented though. . . .

Why not Big Barda? She is an interesting and dynamic character, she is still technically a hero, and she fits with the more aggressive attitude that seems prevalent in the JLA. Obviously, Big Barda wouldnt have any problem trading blows with Wonder Woman either. She would have been my first pick.

Big Barda is an excellent choice. However, she's too busy being in Earth-2 with Scott Free. (Not sure how that works since Orion is currently in Wonder Woman though)

Right? Wow, I havent read Earth-2 other than the first 2 issues which were underwhelming to say the least, imo, so I didnt know that. Hopefully they appear in the main u, I LOVE the New Gods!

@deaditegonzo: Big Barda is on Earth 2 at the moment so she couldnt do it. Plus I have a hard time believing Barda would obey any order Waller would give her

Obvious Katana push! Maybe she will get some new power that lets her fight at heightened levels like how red she-hulk has 2 hulk-levels.

@darkman61288: I agree. I think Stargirl is a better choice than Katana.

Artemis is no where near as strong or as fast as Wonder Woman. She is a great fighter though.

Most of the JLA counterpart picks are terrible with the exceptions of Martian Manhunter for Supe and MAYBE Catwoman for Bats.

@pokeysteve: I was always under the impression that she was. There was that time in the 90s whene she beat the sh*t outta Diana. Would that be classified as pure skill, I wonder? But then again, it was the 90s. Things were always a bit odd

I'm pretty sure you're thinking around the time of the second contest. Hippolyta ordered another contest to decide a new Wonder Woman. Hippolyta had a spell placed on Diana that weakened her when she was on the island. Artemis beat her. During her time as Wonder Woman she was given artifacts to boost her strength, speed, durability and enabled her to fly. There's a lot more to the story obviously. I left out a lot of details in case you ever read it. Wonder Woman volume 2 issues 91 - 100 & 0. These are collected in The Contest trade which is tough to find.

I think New 52 Captain Atom was on the cusp of being the most powerful DC character, I feel he could certainly take Diana. So that would have been cool, but I guess he wouldnt have a vested interest of any sort.

No problem. It's a pretty decent read and Artemis is one of the more kick ass characters in WW's universe.
