Wonder Woman
Character » Wonder Woman appears in 8805 issues.
The Amazon princess, blessed with god-like super abilities, Wonder Woman is one of Earth's most powerful defenders of peace, justice, and equality and a member of the Justice League. She is considered an archetype for many heroines outside of comic book. Her initial origin depicted her as a clay baby brought to life by patron goddess Aphrodite, but in recent years she has been depicted as the daughter of Zeus and Amazon queen Hippolyta.
Wonder Woman - Pants or Panties?
Shorts for the books but a movie will probably need pants. It's the top half they should be worried about.
Her outfit is to iconic to change it, especially in a film, people would expect her original outfit ... I actually love the New 52 outfit, the colour change is great.
I disagree and so does most of Hollywood. When ever talk of her costume is mentioned its pretty much agreed that they CAN'T use her panties bottom outfit in live action anymore because it's too skimpy. That why they didn't use it in the most recent live action film awhile ago.
She needs to dress like a god damn Roman/Greek warrior!!!!!
EDIT: this
Cliff Chiang's Divine Armor beats out both of Lee's design in my opinion

That's the tackiest Wonder Woman armor ever created. The skirt looks like fence pickets, the stars are anemic and the sandals appear orthopedic.
You know immediately when someone calls the shorts "panties" how they feel about them. I'm a WW purist so I prefer the shorts, but with the New 52 redesign pants are best.
I've never been a fan of her wearing armor - it seems to make the bracelets kind of redundant. And in recent incarnations, her skin is hard like Superman's, so what good does a piece of metal do for her?
As for the top half - the outfit would be fine if they'd just stop making her boobs so ridiculously large. As this awesome (and thus too good to be true) fan trailer proves - the traditional outfit (with a few small adjustments) could be made to work if they put the right body type into it:

I find it weird that all of the JL get cool armor redesigns and WW is more or less the same. I think she needs armor, something like what Donna Troy wore.

Cleavage and Wonder Woman go together like peanut butter and jelly.
I was wondering how many posts it would take for someone to reduce Wonder Woman to a sex object, and the answer is apparently 24. Well done.

Yeah i really like this one. Out of the two options in the poll i actually voted for the panties but the pants make way more sense. I agree though she should be in more ancient Greek garb. She can be up with the times and wear things reminiscent of ancient Greek and Roman times (shirts that fall the same way toga type clothing would have or dresses basically just strapped to her) But in any battle she should be wearing her Amazonian armor
She's not a sex object, she's sexy, there's a huge difference. A sex object is an empty cypher that only exists to provide pleasure. Michelle Obama is sexy because she's intelligent, strong, confident and beautiful. Wonder Woman shares those traits, plus she has a great rack. What's wrong with celebrating that?

What's wrong? This: lots of people can't tell the difference between sex object and sexy.

You think Michelle Obama is sexy? ewww
Hell yeah she's sexy!
What?
I don't see any reason why her outfit can't be closer than my ancient greek warrior friend here (sans helmet and weaponry) with a few adjustments:
- Take away the undershirt, or at least get rid of the sleeves even if there is clearly dark blue clothe under the torso armor)
- Keep the cuirass skin tight with the same dark red and silver color scheme as it is now
- Make the short dark blue with silver stripe (the only star should be on her tiara, I personally don't like the star-pattern pants design)
- Shorten the greaves so they don't go above the knees and make them dark red with silver outline
- Sandals instead of boots
- Plain silver bracelets
- Plain, silver tiara with red star on the front
Done. Nice, simple, related to her origin, not a swim suit, can work for both comics and live action.
Why is that so hard when everyone else is getting redesigns?
Black Canary lost her fishnets
@teerack: yes

You were so on the verge of making a good point and then... "plus she has a great rack," which basically boils down to the notion that despite her intelligence, strength, confidence, and beauty, what really makes her Wonder Woman is that we can stare at her boobs.
I'm not saying she has to be completely flat chested, but in the picture that started this thread her boobs are freakishly disproportionate to the rest of her body. Apparently they do breast implant surgeries on Themyscira?
If im mistaken didn't Leonidas fight wearing leather breifs in 300 and commando in the graphic novel? So whats the big deal when a male character wore less than her while fighting. Also, DR. MANHATTAN!!! Yeah nuff said.
The problem with the "panties" outfit is that it has been overspecialized for the past few years.
However, Cliff Chiang's new 52 outfit has a higher bust line where they cover the breasts so they wont expose cleavage nor fall out.
Pants. But since she is an amazon with heavy ties to Greek Mythology, I'd love it if she had an ancient warrior skirt on.
My problem with pants is that she doesn't look as good kicking butt and overall. But I like the waist design in this picture. How the skirt covers the back but doesn't cover the whole front its perfect!
I like the costume, but change the gold with blue and lose the helmet. Real issue is somersaulting in that skirt would be annoying.
Also the arch of that back reminds me of Liefeld, but not as bad as his!

No. That's not "basically" what I'm saying. What I'm saying is a woman doesn't have to be flat-chested in order to be taken seriously.
Also, I have to add, your idea of "freakishly disproportionate" has an extremely low threshold, which seemingly includes any woman with more than a b-cup.
How is it wrong for me to give a compliment, but okay for you to disparage large chested women and automatically assume they've had surgery if they surpass your severe standards?
As I already said, she doesn't have to be flat chested, but the original picture in question is unrealistic. A woman as slim in the waste and thighs as that Wonder Woman would not have breasts that big. And that picture isn't even as bad as many others. Curves are fine, but when only the breasts are huge then the picture is clearly catering to unrealistic male fantasies.

Have to agree with S_C; Example of an extremely fit woman with large bust-line would Denise Milani; A completely natural fitness model. Even with an extremely toned body she is still fills a bathing suit.
First, regarding the "reality" of that model's chest - I have very serious doubts. But even if they are real, the fact that one woman has that body shape doesn't mean that every depiction of Wonder Woman (and most other comic females) should follow suit. And the fact that comics so often depict women that way is clearly motivated by a desire to play to male fantasies - that's why we have the term "cheesecake" in the first place.

It's obvious you think there's something inherently wrong with cheesecake, and I don't think there is. I see it as a celebration of the female form that's equally balanced by comic's depiction of beefcake.
That's why I picked this avatar. It proves that male costumes can be just as "sexy","impractical" or "unrealistic" as their female counterparts.
Comic books are a fantasy. Everything is exaggerated, overblown and hyped up to be more aesthetically appealing and there's nothing wrong with that.
I still maintain that Jim Lee's Wonder Woman pic is tasteful, proportionate and in keeping with the medium, despite any qualms you may have about it.
Honestly Superman and Batman have arguably more revealing outfits, considering the artist still draw every muscle line as if they were completely naked anyway.... and BOTH men and women are drawn to an unrealistic physical standard in terms of body and looks, so trying to argue about the outfit being inappropriate one way is beyond moot unless you don't want to think rationally and fairly.
