Although NBC hasn't made it official quite yet, according to Deadline, things don't look good for our beloved Diana! Having shot the pilot and shown to focus groups, NBC has decided not to make David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman into a television series. This is not the only comic book based television series that didn't make the cut, either. Fox network also passed on a 'Locke & Key' series as well as the 'Human Target.'

This is certainly a sad day for comics. I blame it on the pants. What do you think?

I think it looked like crap from the beginning, and the big guys at NBC look like they agree with me.

GOOD! The idea was crap, the suit was crap. Maybe now they will go back and tell themselves "Hey, maybe we should actually look at some of these comics and use those story's".

also get someone better than Adrianna Palicki (however it's spelled). She just looks goofy when trying to do an action face. They need a strong woman, not a dried up super-model wannabe.

I'm 50/50 on this. I would've loved to see this show improve and WW to finally get the same treatment as Batman and Superman. Yet, by all indications this was going to be terrible. It sucks to be a Wonder Woman fan sometimes.

Haha,
I was just talking about this.  I didn't have much confidence in NBC doing this show anyway. I would have preferred the CW do the show to give it time to develop.

Edit: As for Human Target it has gone down hill the longer it has gone on, it lost all aspects of a comic turned tv show so it won't be missed much. I heard the Locke & Key pilot was terrible also it  did even worse with focus groups than Wonder Woman did.

And Ashton Kutcher to replace Charlie Sheen on 2.5 men hehehe.....

Perhaps it's better it didn't happen.

I still say that a Wonder Woman live action movie is the way to go.

What says outright that they will start from scratch? This project will just hit the backwater for years dampening any chance for a Wonder Woman movie with it. 'Tis sad, indeed.

Damn.....just damn. And I was looking forward to it!!

yay. now she can go back to being sam winchesters dead girlfriend :p.

#20 Posted by Pokeysteve (7083 posts) - - Show Bio

Oh thank Hera! This had fail written all over it. Why don't these freakin people make a Wonder Woman show using her actual origin? Why did they have to convert the strongest woman on the DC Earth  to Ally frickin McBeal? The fact that we can see her running or that she's running at all means something is wrong. Created by Hippolyta, Olympian given abilities, fish out of water Princess of peace who isn't shy about throwing down fisticuffs. Turn that into a pilot.........not for NBC though =P

End tangent.

the only wonder woman i want to see that looks like them gladiator women from that movie Gladiator.
#22 Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus (6885 posts) - - Show Bio

No Locke n Key.  No more Human Target.  Smallville's almost done.  No Ordinary Family cancelled as well as other shows down the hatch.  Guess I pretty much have to rely on Cartoon Network for any and all fixes anymore on television.  Oh well wasn't really counted much on WW on NBC anyway. Maybe the best thing overall.

#23 Posted by Preacherl2k (460 posts) - - Show Bio
@mark5: Human Target and Lie to me have been canceled by Fox.
#24 Posted by EnSabahNurX (2310 posts) - - Show Bio

Lmao actually I blame the pants for the WW cancellation too because it brought all the negative publicity to the series, but I really wanted to at least see how the pilot was before I made a judgement. I feel like WonderWoman gets the shaft yet again, actually the current arch where WW was finding out about herself would have been a good concept for a series and then have it end with her finally returning to her glory as the icon WW.

Walking Dead still going. (I believe Season 2, starts in October)

This is, quite possibly, the greatest thing to ever happen to Wonder Woman, in the whole of her 60+ years of existence.

#27 Posted by Emperormeister734 (789 posts) - - Show Bio

Can there be something interested on TV please come back the Human Target was awesome  and Lie to me too. the only thing I ask is to stop canceling good shows. About a month ago they canceled Sym-Bionic Titan, a show about robots, I love robots that kick monster A$$ ALL DAY EVERYDAY. All I ask is they bring back  the good shows including sym bionic titan, it was awesome. Not to be sexist at all in anyway, 100% PERCENT NOT TYRING TO BE SEXIST  but did anyone believe that the Wonder Woman show would last long if aired on tv, again not being sexist. If certain people believe me too be sexist I will take off the comment

This is kinda' sad, but probably for the best. I'm just more shocked that they aren't even going to be putting the pilot out there. This must of been really bad if they aren't even going to give it a shot. Makes me wonder who the focus group was made of. Is it a group of people who like these comic oriented shows, or the reality TV loving public? They make a lot of stupid reality TV shows. Even my beloved Discovery Channel has "Hogs Gone Wild", where these groups of guys go out and try to capture wild hogs.

A lot of what I've been hearing about this show didn't sound at all good. Making it seen as if it's a superhero oriented Ally McBeal. Can these superhero TV shows just not work unless they are tween dramas?

Though, I do give some blame to the pants. That first outfit was an utter joke. It really looked like a porn parody of Wonder Woman.

Wonder Woman needs a film

DC promotes her as one third of the triad that is their paramount heroes and yet they give her a crappy NBC show while Batman and Superman get movies? How is that at all fair? Particularly since Green Lantern was given a movie first...it's downright criminal.

You know what can't be beat? Something that is the first of its kind. Wonder Woman was the first iconic superheroine and the effect has remained in the pop culture lexicon for the past 70 years. If they made as good and as honest of an attempt at creating a movie franchise for her as they have with Batman or Superman, it would be phenomenal. It would be the very first movie centric around a comicbook heroine to have an effect.

But heck, Joss Whedon gave it his all and apparently he said that the studio's enthusiasm for the project was "under-whelming"....big shocker.....

and the actress they cast as Wonder Woman? Ridiculous.

#30 Posted by RedheadedAtrocitus (6885 posts) - - Show Bio
@Caligula: True, we do have that to look forward to, even though we still do have well over 5 months to go for that, lol.
#31 Posted by stuamerica (327 posts) - - Show Bio

Saw that one comin.  Bad thing this pretty much guarantees that comic book properties (not to mention sci fi fare in general given current ratings) is going to be become almost non-existent on tv for several years.  When this much of a style goes by the wayside so quickly (Smallville, The Cape, No Ordinary Family, Wonder Woman, etc.) it usually takes years for the follow-the-leader network heads to risk trying any interesting properties.

#32 Posted by Joe_Amazing (103 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm actually happy to see that NBC declined on this.  I'm pretty sure the focus groups looked at the pilot and said, "Is this supposed to be Wonder Woman?  What's wrong with her costume?  Why is she a corporate executive and not an Amazon Princess?  Why is we wearing pants?!"

#33 Posted by tjx_penn (37 posts) - - Show Bio

i believe if this show would have aired it would have turned alot of people away from the comics. a good adaptation of a comic book can make a fan for life. if this would have aired it would have pushed more people. i say bravo for shutting this down.

I think NBC is a little worried after the Heroes fiasco.  It started off so strong, they really poured into it and then it sank hard.  Most all of the fanbase that I recall got increasingly disappointed with it and then it was too late for it to recover.  I love Smallville, I think they did it right though, they kept things steadily increasing for a long time.  I'm not too surprised though as tons of shows I love and really started getting into over the past couple of years have gotten canned way early on, so now I somewhat expect it.  Gone are the days where a show could start and just slowly build it's way up, like Seinfeld did.  Most people had never watched that show until like the 3rd or 4th season and then viewers boomed once word started going around about the show about nothing.  In these times, that show would never even get close to reaching that point.

What a wonderful day for NBC not to do Wonder Woman TV series. NBC really screwed up Heroes big time.

hmm...wonder if the pilot will ever make it online or something, I'd like to at least see it

I would have liked to have seen it given a chance, but if it was bad then I think time is better served elsewhere. I'm sure the pilot will get out and then we can judge.

#39 Posted by foxglove (77 posts) - - Show Bio

Sorry to hear about Locke and Key, although I don't think they would've done it justice anyway.

#40 Posted by entropy_aegis (13656 posts) - - Show Bio

Why am i not suprised.

#41 Posted by Burnstar1230 (206 posts) - - Show Bio

Lynda Carter will always be the true Wonder Woman. It's unfortunate that there aren't that many young actresses that can pull off the type of strength that Wonder Woman has portrayed in the comics and now that television is filled with reality shows/competitions and vampires, shows based on superheroes just doesn't work anymore. Luckily, from what i've seen/heard of the spoilers so far, Smallville will go out in a nice manner, but I can't say this show would've been the same.

Based on the costume, not suprised...

That's too bad, sure this was probably going to be bad but DC doesn't put out much of anything.
For the past few years it seemed like DC would only put out something with Superman or Batman, now they have a GL movie, but they could put out so much more with a Wonder Woman tv show or a movie, or a Flash franchise, or something.  This could be a set back for Wonder Woman as a franchise... maybe.
Marvel seems to put out as much as they can, Spider-Man, X-Men, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Wolverine, Hulk, Punisher, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, Avengers, Man Thing, and more.
DC has just as many iconic characters that could become major franchises too, especially Wonder Woman and the Flash, to go with Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern.

From the description I read about the pilot the story was going to start way into her career as a superhero, and characters were going to be out of character, Wonder Woman wasn't acting like Wonder Woman.  So maybe this is a good thing, since it might have been bad anyway...
but its too bad.  DC could do so much more, and Wonder Woman could be as great as Superman or Batman.
