Who is Wonder Woman's Archnemesis?

#1 Posted by Sinestro2828 (1511 posts) - - Show Bio

Batman has Joker, Superman has Lex Luthor, but who would you say is Wonder Woman's archnemesis?  I'm talking about a bitter rival who comes back to menace her time and time again and who has had Wonder Woman on the ropes more than once.

I'm leaning more towards a baddie of hers who could be seen allying her or himself with the Legion of Doom rather than a "OH MY GOD WE'RE SCREWED" type of baddie like Doomsday or Darkseid, but I'll take whatever you guys can give me, lol

I agree with Calvin.Circe appears to be her most formidable and Cheetah her most frequent.If you were to compare them to Batman rouges they Cheetah would be the Joker and Circe would be Bane.

I agree with this. Although Ares could be.

I'd say Ares.

I'd say Egg Fu.

I can agree with Ra's Al Ghul. He's much cooler than Bane.

@ComicMan24: I had forgot it. But yes, all amazon chicks hate that dude. Well... nobody really likes him!

 She doesn't need an arch-villain. Her villain's recidivism rates arn't nearly as bad as Batman's. And Cheetah is a perfectly fine villain, if you ask me.
#11 Posted by Bestostero (5618 posts) - - Show Bio

Cheetah, Giganta, Circe are the only major ones I can think of... yeah very underwhelming for Wonder Woman.

#12 Edited by WW-Fan (2738 posts) - - Show Bio

its Ares! and the Circe and Cheetah and i think Genocide should be her worst enemy she was very cool
#13 Posted by TheJuggernautpunch (6133 posts) - - Show Bio

Ares, definitely.

#14 Posted by Dracade102 (8167 posts) - - Show Bio
Cheetah.
#15 Posted by DEGRAAF (7881 posts) - - Show Bio

Ares. I wish it was Circe more but i have actually never seen her in comics before, Cheetah is definitely the most common one.

Ares

IT'S ARES! Dude has even come to menace Wonder Woman from the dead-ish.  Read Wonder Woman:Gods and Mortals

Also what is the deal with the cheetah hating? I think the Cheetah is like a carnage who moves faster and likes to plan her murderous ways more.
#19 Posted by Fortanono (4889 posts) - - Show Bio

Cheetah.

Diana and Cheetah have too much history together in my opinion, even with the 3 different incarnations. After Cheetah, I'd say Ares and Circe.

Just because she doesn't have a lot of recurring villains (and you forgot Giganta, Ares, Dr. Psycho, Felix Foust, and Hercules), it doesn't mean she's underwhelming. She has quite a few good ark-specific villains. I think it shows how effective she is as a crime fighter, since nobody can say she's an inefective for having a million villains that come back every 2 seconds.

#22 Posted by Calvin (3479 posts) - - Show Bio
@xhavoc86: Yes Giganta! I forgot that one!
#23 Posted by justice teen (462 posts) - - Show Bio

Ares and Circe are her biggest threat
#24 Posted by lorex (954 posts) - - Show Bio

One of Wonder Woman's problems as a major super hero is she lacks a villain which defines her as a hero. Yes she has several prominent enemies but none on the level of The Joker or Luthor.

#25 Posted by Son_of_Magnus (15258 posts) - - Show Bio

 What about Wonder Woman's oldest foe?
#26 Edited by CylonDorado (1867 posts) - - Show Bio

@Son_of_Magnus:
I think that would be Dr. Poison, actually.

Not that I've read anything with her as the main bad guy in it in the modern age. But I know she's still around (hence the second picure, and a few minor appearances).

Lol, who knows, maybe by the end of the current ark her arch-nemesis will be "mysterious lasso guy".

Agreed, none of them are smart/diabolical(lol) enough to match either Joker or Luthor.

I don't know. I think you could mark that as one of Superman and Batman's biggest failures is that they have such high profile bad guys that keep coming back so much. I think the Red Hood would agree with me, lol. At least WW tried to kill Ares (successfully too, he just came back as a ghost because gods are jerks like that...).
#32 Posted by WW-Fan (2738 posts) - - Show Bio

i actully think Genocide is her archenemy! i mean she almoust killed her

#33 Posted by CylonDorado (1867 posts) - - Show Bio
@WW-Fan:
Genocide would be AMAZING as her arch-villain, but she'd have to be around more, I think.
#34 Posted by WW-Fan (2738 posts) - - Show Bio
@CylonDorado:
yes i agree :/
#35 Posted by Hawkeye446 (3939 posts) - - Show Bio

As an archnemesis I would say ares, they have been at it since the start, but on a more frequent basis I would go cheetah..
#36 Posted by Bestostero (5618 posts) - - Show Bio
@CylonDorado: Well I wouldn't say failure because Batman and Superman don't kill.  Wonder Woman don't kill either really...its their code or whatever lol but the thing is, you don't see Cheetah planning world domination, she's more about robbing banks and stealing things lol  Whereas Lex Luthor and Joker are more...lets mentally and physically destroy Superman/Batman and then take over the world lol  Ares kinda falls under that category, but he's still not as present as Lex or Joker.
#37 Posted by CylonDorado (1867 posts) - - Show Bio
@xhavoc86:
Lol, sure. Joker doesn't have the slightest inclination towards world domination, he only took over the world that one time because he could. If Cheetah got ahold of Mr. Mxy's powers, she'd take over the world too, because hey, why not? . The last time she showed up, she seemed to be a higher up member of the society, and she successfully destroyed the DMA headquarters (a bit higher teir then bank robbery). And she and Ares clearly hate Wonder Woman as much as Joker/Lex hate their respective enablers. Plus, Wonder Woman has been fine with killing for a while now, as long as it's for the right reasons. And in her current comic, she's killing people left and right.

The Fashion Police!!!

@CylonDorado:

I've always agreed with that. I mean how many people have to die because you let the same freak live a THOUSAND TIMES!?! Like does Superman think that one day Darkseid will just say "You know what? Forget the anti-life equation and ruling over the cosmos. I'm happy with Apokalips." and then thank him for showing him the light?

I'm eager to see what JMS has to offer in terms of Diana's new rogues gallery

Lol, yeah. And maybe the Joker will learn the error of his ways and get a real job at Starbucks or something.

that 'time of the month' is a recurring villain :-P
#43 Posted by Gremlin From Kremlin (2931 posts) - - Show Bio

Ares.

#44 Posted by Mainline (1129 posts) - - Show Bio

I think the animated film sort of captures it... a little girl says, "Look!  It's Wonder Woman!" who proceeds to lasso and KO Cheetah, however, the film focused on Ares.

So Wonder Woman's nemesis is Cheetah... but Princess Diana of Themyscira's nemesis is Ares.

They could be clever and revive a few mythological creatures like the Scylla and Charybdis duo. After the darkest night and brightest day you know it is bound to happen.

#46 Posted by Son_of_Magnus (15258 posts) - - Show Bio

Honestly I would say Ares he is always behind her life sucking

#47 Posted by UrmanitaRules (74 posts) - - Show Bio
@ArachKnight:  Hell yeah, has to be Ares. Circe and Cheetah, too, but Ares is the bigger threat.
#48 Posted by WDW (1514 posts) - - Show Bio

It is Circe... for Circe its way personal. Ares merely wants power her does not HATE Diana as Circe does.

Part of me thinks Cheetah and the other is saying Ares. I'm going to side with Ares, though. He goes back further than when Wonder Woman even existed and never really seemed to be a big fan of Themyscira to begin with. Along with Zeus, who also always wants to mess with that damn island in some way or another, I'd say he's threatened the Amazons the most.
