Gal Gadot Cast as Wonder Woman in 'Batman vs. Superman'

We keep hearing more and more rumors about Man of Steel's sequel. Just the other day there was talk about Doomsday being in the film, but obviously we have to take all rumors with a grain of salt. Over the past several months, there's been a lot of chatter about Wonder Woman potentially making an appearance, but now it looks like the iconic character will really be in the movie! According to Variety, Fast Five actress Gal Gadot will become the DC cinematic version of Diana Prince!

No word on how big of a role the Amazon will play in the film, but regardless, it's very awesome to see the DC cinematic universe will be expanding and this is a character who definitely deserves a spot on the big screen. Director Zack Snyder shared his opinion of the character.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character,”

Man of Steel's sequel is scheduled to open in 2015 (tentatively set at July 17, 2015) and will be co-written by David S. Goyer and director Zack Snyder.

Viners, do you think she's a good fit for the role? Don't be shy, let us know below.

I just don't see her has having the presence or physique to pull of wonder woman. Look at her body type in that shot.

Thanks alot @k4tzm4n now you just reminded me of Paul Walker *sigh* :(

Still think Jaimie Alexander would of been a better choice. But i guess will see how she does.

#7 Posted by BigL (240 posts) - - Show Bio

Just as random as Affleck as Batman haha. I haven't kept up with the Fast & Furious movies so I have no idea how her acting is, but she kinda looks the part I guess

#8 Posted by noj (1077 posts) - - Show Bio

Looks like she could fit the role. Granted I've never seen her in anything before but that's sometimes a good thing.

#9 Posted by fables87 (952 posts) - - Show Bio

WHERE ARE HER MUSCLES! Those arms look like her bracelets can fall right off. Way to go for introducing Wonder Woman into the movie a twiggy model.

This is an unexpected development.

When I read somewhere that the mma female champion from that Stephen soderbug (not sure how to spell his name) film was interested I thought, that would be good casting. She was perfect. This lady... eh?

Well let's be honest, she's not Jaimie Alexander, so she was never going to live up to my expectation.

Do I like the fact she's unknown? Yes.

Is she a good actress? No idea.

Is she gorgeous? Yes.

Does she have the physique to be Wonder Woman? At this moment no. She best get a personal trainer.

#13 Edited by Captain13 (3284 posts) - - Show Bio

Nice!

To be totally honest, I don't know this actress very well. And I don't remember her much from the Fast and Furious films, but I am happy that Wonder Woman will at least cameo in the film. Good to see WB listening to the fans.

I wish this actress the best of luck with this big, important role.

We are one step closer to a Wonder Woman film.

this, I am disappointed

#15 Posted by Jonny_Anonymous (32926 posts) - - Show Bio

@fables87: @xchaix: She served in the Israeli army and is a sports trainer, I'm sure she can buff up just like every other actor.

#16 Edited by Captain13 (3284 posts) - - Show Bio

Now we just need to get Idris Elba locked for a John Stewart/Green Lantern cameo.

Should we allow Cavill's Superman the necessary time to let his character grow and mature? Should we allow the Batman franchise time to rest and regroup for the next generation? Should we give the character of Wonder Woman the respect it deserves with her own movie? NOPE! We're DC Entertainment and we want that Avengers money!

Interesting.

nothing against her per say but jamie alexander wouldve been the dream choice

#20 Posted by novi_homines (1338 posts) - - Show Bio

So random. But she's an actress. Her job is to convince us she's WW. Hopefully she succeeds in doing just that.

I still don't understand why this is a MoS sequel. PLEASE dc, just make it a separate film entirely.

#21 Posted by CaptainHoopla (905 posts) - - Show Bio

Pretty face, don't know if she can act, but she looks way too skinny to be Wonder Woman.

she served under bragga in fast 4

I'm on board. I only vaguely remember her in The Fast and Furious. But she looks the part well enough and I'm confident that she was cast for a good reason. Looking forward to the first shots of her in-costume!

Wouldn't have been my choice but this is super exciting!!!!!

So what I learned today is that you're stuck with the body type you were born with and can't possibly change it in any way. Nope, can't get fatter, or skinnier or more muscular.

#28 Posted by Kuffs (22 posts) - - Show Bio

Don't know enough about her to comment if she's capable or not to hold of an WW franchise on her shoulders or not. A pretty unknown to the masses, which doesn't translate as a bad casting. WB/DC usally makes good casting calls. Gadot however has the WW/greek look to her so if she just starts exersicing for the roll and have the acting chops this will be a homerun.

#29 Posted by SanoHibiki (1427 posts) - - Show Bio

I think she can pull off Greek vibe. Anything else - just wait and see, I guess...

thats why im not having a fit about it because im just glad we are finally going to have wonder woman on screen. as i said before nothing against the actress but like you said she wouldnt be my first choice either.

#31 Posted by MrMazz (1154 posts) - - Show Bio

Yep I think she can pull that off

Still dosen't make me think that BAtman vs Superman or whatever terrible title they give it, won't utterly suck. This whole thing seems so slapdash and catch up filled

#32 Posted by toplel (815 posts) - - Show Bio

Judging by her acting in the Fast and the Furious series, I'm not looking forward to this.

#33 Edited by RedQueen (1171 posts) - - Show Bio

So, they've dropped all pretences and just come out and said she'll be in it? Finally! my excitement for this film has just multiplied beyond belief. As for the actress, she certainly looks the part (I'm going to go out and say that she'll definitely bulk up for it as well).

#34 Posted by Captain13 (3284 posts) - - Show Bio

She can pull off the acting. She will need more muscle though.

#35 Edited by Maddpanda531 (1025 posts) - - Show Bio

I like it.

The casting, at least.

Not too keen on all these characters sharing one movie so soon...

#36 Edited by novi_homines (1338 posts) - - Show Bio

Wait, she's from Isreal? Oh boy. This could be bad. In terms of her reception. The media might focus on that.

#37 Posted by Black_Claw (2919 posts) - - Show Bio

@fables87: Well you know, she can fix this problem by going to the Gym.

#38 Edited by lifeboy (1675 posts) - - Show Bio

Her F###ing hand almost closes around her arm! LMFAO Is she even 6ft tall?

How come?

#40 Posted by DaltonMunnal (161 posts) - - Show Bio

Mixed feelings. I'm excited for a DC cinematic universe, and I wish the movies were happening faster, like Marvel who puts out 2 films a year, so I don't have to wait, but this news feels like rushing it. I loved the idea of a Batman/Superman movie because doing a two person team up before the full blown team movie would have made its plan different from Marvel and The Avengers. Now that the film has all 3, it's basically already The Justice League, which means basically doing the Marvel formula, except skipping the part where you introduce characters individually. I'm still happy that at least that much is happening, but I would have really preferred news of a Wonder Woman movie on her own coming out. Especially since it's already strongly rumored that we're getting a Flash movie the following year. Flash gets a movie before Wonder Woman? Really?

#41 Posted by TazzMission (5488 posts) - - Show Bio

I like it.

The casting, at least.

they have to start somewhere though. i do wonder if she will just be diana the love interest or she will be in full costume. becaus ei thought i heard a rumor diana is just a love interest for bruce i believe.

Maybe Wonder Woman will finally get a mediterranean accent?

The way Snyder handled Antje Faora as Faora, I'm confident she'll go through the right training.

Ever hear of a personal trainer? All the superhero actors get one.

Faora worked well under Snyder. Gadot/WW will as well.

The issue of her weight and muscle:

She will work out just like Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck did for the roles so please calm down. The way Zach described Wonder Woman in his comments it sounds like she will be muscular but if there is negative response that means there is passion for the character so i'm excited hopefully you guys can all be too.

yea and hopefully now the anti snyder crowd will now appreciate what the man is trying to do. lets be honest would wonder woman even be thought of or batman in a mos steel film if not for snyder?

im not saying hes the best director or w/e but he did open that door to build up a possible jla film.

i only liked watchmen and mos from him and i never saw 300 so i cant comment.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSs OMG I love Gal Gadot!

O_o

Wait as WW -_-

#49 Posted by Paul2814 (95 posts) - - Show Bio

I'm sure/hope she is required to gain muscle over the coming months for the role, other than that, yay! WW on the big screen :)

Definitely not my first choice. I was hoping for Gemma Atereton or Olga Kurylenko, but....i'm not mad
