Diana's Self-Discovery
The Story:
The Infinite Crisis is over and it's One Year Later. Diana is now a member of the Department Of Metahuman Affairs thanks to Batman. Donna Troy has taken up the mantle of Wonder Woman in Diana's absence. The Cheetah, Giganta and Dr. Psycho have teamed up to capture Donna Troy in order to bring Diana out of hiding. The true culprits behind this turn out to be Circe and Hercules. Diana must come to terms with herself in order to save not only her friends but herself as well.
My Thoughts:
A great beginning to the the third Wonder Woman volume written by Allan Heinberg. I was utterly impressed with his writing in this story. It was was extremely powerful and flawlessly executed. Heinberg managed to do something amazing with a character so many writers have had difficulty with over the years. This isn't some corny, watered-down, girl-power story for little kids. Heinberg delivers something all comic fans whether male or female can truly enjoy and relate to.
I like what happened to Diana's powers at the end. I think that will help modernize her character and make for more interesting issues. It will help her feel more human and be easier for her to fit in. I see the potential for new stories just waiting to be written.
The art team of Terry and Rachel Dodson do a phenomenal job crafting some truly beautiful panels. Terry draws such a strong, beautiful Wonder Woman. The character is depicted perfectly in every aspect. Much praise must also go to colorist Alex Sinclair who always does amazing work.
I definitely recommend checking this out to all comic fans whether new or old to Wonder Woman's character. It's a great jumping on point for new readers. The series is shaping up to be something special you wont want to miss.
