This issues features the never before seen Adjudicator.   It is a force which travels the universe seeking planets where its people are destroying themselves.   On earth it finds a different group, where despite its tension that mankind is hanging on.   So instead of using his forces against mankind he uses them as a test instead to see if they are worthy of continuing.   After alerting the Justice League Diana and Zatanna set out to battle the first force, hunger.   This is striking the city of in .   After a brief battled the force imposes a devastating hunger upon them.   Diana and Zatanna are able to break the spell, but they learn the meaning of a deep hunger in the process.   They also note the poor living conditions of those around them.   After returning to face hunger again, the two heroines successfully beat it back and pass the first test.   Of particular note in this issue (other than the pairing of my two favourite characters) is their reaction to hunger.   Some people sometimes ask me what I mean when I say that I like female characters to be written as though they are feminine – this issue was a good example.   After being exposed to the hunger they vow to never forget it, as a threat to mankind which their superheroics alone cannot vanquish.   I thought it was a good message.   This issue was the first of three detailing the tests which mankind must pass on different alternate worlds.   It is worth the effort.
