Women....
While I have more than fond memories of me drooling over George Perez's magnificent resurrection of the Wonder Women character in the early 90s, I remembered that he focused on one primary thing, which was Wonder Woman's Godhood and her being adamant on following the ways of the Gods. The constant threats of the Zeus' and Hades' rarely gave her time to contemplate what it was like to be a human. Whatever human tendencies she displayed was subtly done and we understood it. She did not, if ever, thought much of her femininity nor was she a supporter of it. It simply made very little sense to her.
So in this issue, it seems Wonder Woman has come a long way. She certainly has developed not only in character, but in style, sexiness, and bosom. I don't know if this is truly the way I prefer my Wonder Woman, she seems naive for someone who has dwelled on Earth for so long, but at the same time she's a couple of steps above an airhead bimbo. The way she is completely confused at the way humans "act" is very outlandish, not only that, her job as a meta-human agent is ridiculous as well. I just don't think that she is a character that needs this much interaction with the humans on earth, she doesn't have the dynamic that Thor has with his hosts. Giving her a root on Earth is a risky take and the flaws comes crawling out in this issue.
The actual story here is handled very poorly by Will Pfeifer, just monologue after monologue of wives getting beaten by their husbands, and suddenly becoming enlightened when randomly coming upon a Wonder Woman ad or commercial on TV. For a lot of Superheroes, humans fear them or at the very least skeptical, but the way these females suddenly cling on to Wonder Woman is definitely a lot to take in, and I'm not sure if I enjoy this route. If it had been Superman then it would have some sense, even though there are people who are still dubious of him. But as for Wonder Woman, someone who has spent so much time in Themysceria, the bond between her and humans would not have been as strong. Although I did enjoy the scene where Wonder Woman finally decided to take action to stop another wife-beater by giving him the grandest beat down, but ultimately, she seemed to display very little interest in what she's actually doing. Her musings about her being the real Wonder Woman, her musings about Gods and Humans almost make it seem that she cannot wait to get off Earth and back to her real surroundings, which in my mind where she really belongs, with the Amazons.
Because that is the true Wonder Woman we have all known and love, not this feminist supporter try-hard Superheroine.
