razzatazz's Wonder Woman #49 - Return of the Phantom Empire review

Time traveling artillery shells, orphans and a magical typewriter

The first story here deals with a time traveling Wonder Woman who must travel to the past to stop artillery shells which are passing through a warp in the time stream and falling on Paradise Island (modern artillery did not exist 9000 years ago though.)  In the past she finds two rival kingdoms at war with one another, each led by two opposing brothers.  She helps them to achieve peace before returning to the present.  There was also a fight with a whale that was kind of non sequitur.  In the second story Wonder Woman rescues a child at sea who has been orphaned in a plane crash (and has to fight off some sharks to get to her) and ends up deciding to adopt her.  Some of this story plays out like a 1950s educational video about brushingyour teeth and eating a healthy breakfast but eventually the girl's parents are discovered.  In the third story Moon O'Day returns with a magical typewriter that makes anything which is written become real.  It of course falls into the hands of villains though.  Overall this issue was average, the stories were better than usual (despite some definite faults in logic and scientific knowledge.)
