    When Black Canary thinks that Wonder Woman should not reveal her secret identity to Steve Trevor, as she is contemplating doing, Diana tells her the story of how, in ancient times, Artemis, the first Wonder Woman, fell into a trap of Ares’s and was corrupted by not confessing her love for Cleon, a Greek soldier.

    This is an interesting standalone issue in which Diana tells Black Canary a story from ancient Amazon lore.  The story starts off kind of slow and is somewhat non-sequitur to the overall title at the time, but Diana is basically wrestling with whether she can tell Steve of her double identity.  The story tells one of love and betrayal by an Amazon named Artemis.  Long before Diana was chosen to represent the Amazons, Artemis was chosen for a similar task in ancient times.  What unfolds is a roma...
