    Superb. Really. 0

It took me a long time to come on board with this run of Wonder Woman. I hadn't read her since the early 90's, just before and during the infamous Mike Deodato run. But I have to say, this is a great comic right now. I like Cliff Chiang's sharp, clean, pared-down art. It's like it's drawn with an axe! Here we find out a bit more about Brian Azzarello's new version of Diana's origin and how the Greek Gods work in the DCnU. What I like most is how tough and awesome Wonder Woman is. She's a charact...

    Clay No More 3

We have already hear that Brian Azzarello was going to give Wonder Woman a new origin. I wasn't too sure about how this was going to go. Did  things go smoothly or did things burn down in flames?  THE GOOD: I really like Cliff Chiang's art. It's simple but it really captures emotions and backgrounds well. There are thousands of amazons and they all look different. Now, the story is what I was really shocked about. We get to learn about Wonder Woman's new origin and we also get to see how the ama...

    Eyes Wide Open 0

There are occasionally moments within comic books when the writers give the fans exactly everything they want.  In my particular case this issue is one of those cases.  I have long not been such a big fan of the idea that Diana was made of clay, and mostly this has been used as a fairly ineffective plot device over the years.  Now that this is essentially non-canon it eases some problems I have had with the character.  In addition giving Diana a father (any father really, but Zeus is fine) reall...

Diana must have been left in the kiln too long... 0

Art - The art of this is consistent with the previous issues with the same stylized, bad anatomy, that is trying to be like that from Greek/Roman art while clashing with a different stylization for Wonder Woman herself. To me it's ugly and I don't think it really suits the title, but that's just my opinion.Story - The story of this issue is literally Hippolyta slept with Zeus and now the Amazons are mad. The story telling is bad with the first two pages taking place after the rest of book yet it...

A lot has already been written about the drastic change to Diana's character that is revealed in this book. There's a reason why the cover features snakes (the first lies told were by a serpent) shattering the clay image of Diana. I don't feel like I'm spoiling much when I mention that Wonder Woman is no longer born of no father. That origin was all a lie perpetuated to protect her from the truth: that she is the daughter of Zeus.My favorite part of this new Wonder Woman is how intimately they a...

    Wonder Woman #3 0

The third issue of Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang's Wonder Woman run continues being, well, wonderful. Big secrets are discovered here by Diana and it is a big change for the new DCU.At the start of this book, it feels like some time has passed since the end of issue two. The Amazons are burying their dead after Paradise Island was attacked, and things between Strife and Diana aren't looking so good. Azzarello is writing Wonder Woman just right. She's strong, she's definitely independent, whil...

Wonder Woman, Warrior of Great Books 0

The Good: I have to say the cover is very representative of what happens in the book. Cliff Chiang has seriously gone to one of my top 5 artists since this relaunch. This issue shows how some of the Amazonians despise Diana, which is something we rarely get. Then Hippolyta's story seems like a geniune Greek Legend, the Panels are like the vases painted to tell them. The ending is great, it closes but then it makes me wonder where will it go next? The Bad: The story about saving the pregnant woman...

A Few Things You Should Know Going In... 0

So, the first thing you need to know about Wonder Woman #3 is that that beautiful cover has nothing to do with the story inside. Perhaps in some abstract, metaphorical way, but you're not going to see any Wonder Woman statues shattered and crawling with snakes.  The next thing you need to know about Wonder Woman #3 is that the writing is very disjointed. It starts following the battle last issue, as the Amazons light funeral pyres on the beach for their fallen. Then jumps to a mourning Hippolyta...

The Good: The memorial feel after the chaotic occurrences of the previous issue is very emotional. Azzarello did a great job capturing the haunting calm after a battle.YES. Diana and Zola make a great speech about how children are among the cruelest beings alive. This is a theme I wholeheartedly agree with, and thus I just LOVE the way it plays into the story here. Again, we see some interesting redesigns of the gods. Zeus has sparking eyes and eternal nudity. It's displayed incredibly tastefull...

Bullet Points Review: myth about "Clay" is truly shattered... 0

Story Highlights:The amazons are performing last rites for their fellow dead ones who were killed in the confusion that Strife had created in the last issue when she entered paradise island. Not sure why and what specifically Aleka is unhappy about.Diana is irritated being teased as "Clay" all the time. Per what everybody knows, Diana was born of clay as a boon to Hippolyta's prayers. However Strife is finding that a bit funny and Diana is not too comfortable with that. There is a shocking revela...
