Beginning an exciting new era for the Amazing Amazon as John Byrne takes over the story and art on WONDER WOMAN! With the events of Boston and Paradise Island behind her, Diana takes up residence in a new location, Gateway City, to start her life anew…and finds herself immediately drawn into Darkseid's quest to learn the fate of the old gods!

After the cease of recent incidents in Diana’s life, she arrives in. One night, while flying around, she stumbles across an attempted bank heist. Wonder Woman takes down the crooks, but is surprised to find them equipped with quite advanced weaponry. A few days later, officer Mike Schorr walks into a pub, looking for information. He gets into a fight with the inmates, only to be saved by Wonder Woman. They find a hidden door, which leads into an underground tunnel. While wandering through the tunnels, Diana has an uneasy feeling of being oddly familiar with the technology. Soon enough, both of them are attacked by a giant robot and some troopers. Overpowered quickly, they are thrust as offerings to the dreaded Darkseid.
