    Great place to get started

This review may be slighly longer because I wanted to go into a little more detail about the issue since it's the first one I bought of the series.

    The Good

This is the first issue of this series that I have got I picked it up because the series had got good reviews and the whole premise with Greek Gods sounded interesting and I was pleasantly surprised!

This issue takes place on Paradise Island when Diana was a child it's Diana's birthday and she has to give something to her mother so that her Birthday is recognised and celebrated she collects a Harpy egg and gives it to her mother. That's not the main focus of this issue though while Diana is celebrating you see war watching from afar.

What I really liked was the appearance of Young Aleka (I know I said I Jumped on the series this issue but I recently got the Trade with the first six issues in it and Aleka was in that). What was good to see is that Aleka is very aggresive towards Diana because she is not a true Amazon but was made of Clay (she's not but Aleka believes she was made of clay). It was nice to see how she reacted and how she felt about it.

This issue also adds something to Diana's history she was trained by war to be the perfect warrior. It was nice to see this and how her training progressed and how eventually the two part ways because of differences in what they do with their opponents. That was the best part at first I thought War was going to totally change the way Diana thinks but it was nice to see that see that she still holds some of her virtues.

This issue also has a real Golden age feel to it because of the Captions in this issue they were quite hearted and really set the tone of this issue without becoming annoying and lengthy. One of them reads like this "When, Diana turns, the blood in her veins goes icier than the sea she plunged into a year a go"

Cliff Chiang this might be his best issue on the series he makes Diana seem youthful and beautiful with just a few lines and I love his drawings of Paradise Island.

    The bad

Nothing good jumping on point for the series, can't wait for the next one.

    5 stars.

THE GOOD: Cliff Chiang is a brilliant artist and this book really shows off his skills. He manages to draw a character that we know as an adult, as a child and he makes you see the adult version of the character but also really shows youth on her face and her body. The backgrounds also really show off Themyscira as well as facial expressions that really help make the book have more impact. The story goes back to the old days of comics and Brain Azzarello fully commits to it by adding captions th...

      Nearly in my grasp 0

In light of some of the developments happening elsewhere in the Zero Month of the new 52, I was kind of hopeful for a story here which might shed some light on the backgrounds of characters in the new 52, but this one didn't exactly deliver on that.  instead this is not really an origin issue, nor does it really answer any questions.  Some parts of it are an homage to the golden age (it was fun to see Diana as Wonder Girl) but it seemed as though at times it might have channeled a bit too much o...
