Origin
Simon Williams inherited his family business. He made some poor decisions and embezzled some money to invest in his brother's business (which turned out to be illegal activities with the criminal Maggia). Simon blamed Tony Stark and Stark Industries for his downfall.
When he was released from prison, he got ionic energy treatments from Baron Zemo. He was to infiltrate the Avengers to destroy the team from within. He didn't follow through with the plan and died saving the Avengers from the Masters of Evil.
It turned out that Simon really went into a deep ionic coma and was revived by his brother, now the villain known as the Grim Reaper. (Before he was buried his brain patterns were copied and used to program the android, the Vision.) Despite some awkwardness in the beginning, Simon and the Vision became close and began to think of each other as a brother.
Wonder Man became active in the Avengers and became good friends with the Beast. Later he joined the West Coast Avengers. After that team disbanded, he became part of its next incarnation, Force Works, but was killed on their first mission.
Simon was still alive in an energy form and was drawn to the Scarlet Witch with her magical summons. Finally he was able to regain a physical form.
Seeing this as another chance in life, Simon wanted to right any wrongs he committed in the past. He began to divide his time between the Avengers and s non-profit organization he established called the Second Chances Foundation.
Civil War
Simon was one of the first to register after the announcement of the Super Human Registration Act. Not only did he help capture renegade vigilantes and criminals, he was also instrumental as the public face for the SHRA, helping to create televised messages to educate the public and yet-unregistered superhumans about the specifics of the Registration Act. After embezzling money from his own charity he was coerced to do even more work for S.H.I.E.L.D., possibly as a way to seek pardon. He is one of the first established heroes assigned to lead the Fifty State Initiative training program for inexperienced hero recruits along with Ms. Marvel, with whom he is rumoured to be having an intimate relationship.
Powers
Through Baron Zemo's treatments, Simon became a being of ionic energy and in turn gained the following super-human powers, Strength: Wonder Man excess the 100 ton range, his strength is now comparable to Thor's.
- Invulnerability: Wonder Man's skin and tissue has been rated a 9 on the Mohs scale of Hardness (normal human tissue equals a 1 and diamond equals 10).
- Superhuman Endurance: He can exert himself at peak levels for up to an hour without tiring and no longer needs food, water, or air to survive.
- Enhanced agility,
- instantaneous reflexes
- super-human speed. Though at first using a rocket propulsion belt to fly, he later learnt to fly using his own ionic propulsion. Since then he has learned much more about himself and his powers, including feats such as, changing his body's dimensions and firing energy blasts from his eyes.
