Is Wolverine a dead beat dad?

killing people, getting in wars, drinking, fathering bast$rd kids abandoned savage land boy and a psychoboy with convuluted history, cheating on friends, killing people.... "what he does best".?

He loves his kids, but unfortunately knows when to put those feelings aside. We've already seen Wolverine be a pseudo father to some characters and when he has to knows exactly what to do. Circumstances haven't exactly made him father of the year, but I wouldn't think he is really deadbeat since he isn't out in a gutter somewhere with a bottle of jack paid for with coins he scraped off of the streets. If anything, I think Magneto is worse. His kids hate him, Quicksilver is one of the most pathetic speedsters in comics, and Wanda almost committed mass genocide of an entire species. Now he looks like Mister Clean and has decided he will try and keep Scott, Emma, Magik etc in line as a father figure of sorts while still supporting their cause.

He killed all his kids.

I think that takes him somewhat beyond dead beat.

1. He didn't know that Daken was alive and by the time he did it was too late for Daken

2. the children that he recently killed he no idea that they even existed

But you didn't mention the two points --- not knowing Daken existed and also not knowing those five people were his kids until after he killed them.

It's hard to believe it needs to be pointed out at all, though.

Does it make it better that I can see why you didn't? (:P)

I say yes he is, but he's still a honorable one. For me Logan walks a thin line between Hero, and Villain. He's the perfect Anti-Hero. There are worse dads, but yeah he is too.

Cyke, Mags, Creed, and I know there are more but it is late.

I liked his 'revenge arc' it wasn't the best Wolverine story obviously but I thought it was good.

@TheAmazingImmortalMan: You are completely entitled to your opinion, and I won't lie I was entertained for the most part. BUT it was just too much for me. Everyone that despised him had a awful origin story. It was twisted, and honestly it wouldn't have bothered me; if Logan didn't kill his kids. That was horrible and just pure evil story. Then you add his drunken illusion of HIS dad saying, "One thing you always been good at, boy... it's killing family." With Logans son(Daken) plus brother(Creed) standing next to him(Dad). The story just left a terrible taste in my mouth. It was almost as bad as "The Sun Also Rises." I mean how could he not have smelled their scent, and not notice the resembles to his and/or Daken. To each is own I guess.

#26 Posted by Dayvid3 (196 posts) - 4 months, 22 hours ago - Show Bio

Maybe he should take a few precautions so he doesn't have a dozen or so children he never knew existed. Seems like something is lacking to have that many kids you don't even know about. Forget deadbeat dad, he isn't responsible enough a date to even count as a father. Sperm doner at best

@Yung ANcient One: it seems I like it for the same reason you don't lol, I liked the dark twisted path the story took. I thought it was horrible when I found out the people he killed were his children as well. Than again some would say he deserved it for making countless lives miserable by murdering the person/people they loved most. It was karma, what goes around comes around, Logan just got it in a bad way. As for the kids scent, everyone has their own distinct smell and resemblance doesn't necessarily mean relation but I get your point. (btw I'm not trying to debate if that is how it sounds just discussing viewpoints is all)

@TheAmazingImmortalMan: When I started reading your post I didn't think you were trying to debate. I honestly got the vibe that you just wanted to share your point of view, but thanks for verifying it. I hear ya, and looking at it from your point of view, it is not so bad. I still don't really care for it, but you made a solid point on karma. Thanks for reading, and sharing. Good Day to you sir, or Good Night[depending on when you read this]

Wolverine doesn't walk the line between hero and villain. He's arguably always good, when of his own mind. He's at best an anti-hero.

How exactly is Cyclops a worse father than Wolverine? That comment is an utter joke.

I didn't include him on the list to say he was worse. I meant it as he's a dead beat dad too. Because he didn't raise Cable. (+)

I'd say he's closer to father of the year than a deadbeat dad. He was never there for Daken or the other kids he killed, but then he didn't know they existed. There's really no possible way you can blame him for not being there. A deadbeat is the exact opposite. He knows his kid exists, but either doesn't bother to provide any support or just doesn't care about the child. As soon as Logan learned about Daken he made it his goal to find him and save him from what had happened to him, when a good argument could be made that Daken was too far gone at that point and should've been put down from the start. He's played the role of the father with numerous other characters throughout the years, to the point that i'd say it's one of the foundations of the character. The worst thing he's done was kill his own children, but in his defense he didn't know they were his children. (Though I think it's a plot hole that he wasn't able to notice that)

Definitely Cyclops' fault that Mother Askani took Nathan to try and cure him of the virus. Gosh, Cyclops is such a deadbeat dad.
