Wolverine

Creation

Wolverine first showed up in The Incredible Hulk #180, October 1974. Wolverine was first seen in a drawing by Dave Cockrum. While he was still working for DC Comics, he intended Wolverine to be a female vampire with fangs and without claws.

The name Wolverine was chosen because during the 1970s, characters who resembled animals or were animals were very popular. Wolverine was to have a Canadian accent. Though originally intended to be female, later John Romita Sr. sketched Wolverine, and with the help of Len Wein would build Wolverine into the character of today.

Origin of Wolverine

The Wolverine is born

The man that would become the ultimate killing machine was born James Howlett in the early 1890s in Alberta, Canada to Elizabeth and John Howlett Sr. His mother went insane after her first son, John Howlett Jr., died under strange circumstances years before James' birth. It was hinted at that John Jr. was a mutant with powers similar to those of Wolverine, as alluded to by James' grandfather and mother, his mother even bearing scars from John Jr.'s claws.

In the early 1900s a young Irish girl, Rose O'Hara, was brought to the Howlett estate to be a friend and caretaker to young James. Together they befriended another young boy named Dog Logan, son of the grounds keeper Thomas Logan. It was hinted at that Thomas Logan and Elizabeth were having an affair, and James was said to bear a strong resemblance to Thomas in adulthood.

A young Rose

Thomas Logan was a heavy drinker who often abused his son Dog. As a result, over the next few years, Dog became more and more like his father. At one point he attempted to assault Rose and killed James' dog, leading to both he and his father being expelled from the mansion.

The two returned to the mansion shortly afterward looking to rob the estate. Thomas tried to talk Elizabeth into leaving with him, and implied that he was the real father of both of her sons. Thomas murdered John Howlett Sr. with a shot from his rifle in front of James, Rose, and Elizabeth Howlett. James, in a fit of rage and sorrow, manifested his mutant power by popping his bone claws and sliced Dog's face before impaling Thomas Logan. Elizabeth became hysterical and throws James and Rose out of the home before calmly shooting herself in the head with Thomas' rifle. James and Rose rushed to James' grandfather but he ordered them to leave and never return.

James was in such a state of shock that he didn't remember any of the events that had transpired.

James and Rose wandered until finding a mining community in British Columbia. There Rose introduced James as her cousin, Logan. Logan as often bullied and abused by the Cook but befriended the foreman, Smitty, who fell in love with Rose. Over the course of the next few years, Logan would get the urge to hunt with packs of wolves by his side. He, too, fell in love with Rose, but couldn't pursue his feelings because they had portrayed themselves as cousins. Logan dealt with his anger and frustration by competing in cage fights. He earned the nickname "Wolverine" because his intense digging reminded the the other miners of a wolverine digging for a root.

Eventually Logan became estranged from Rose after she agreed to marry Smitty. However, he later maked peace with Smitty by letting himself be beaten in a cage fight against Smitty.

Around this same time, the dying Grandfather Howlett requested that Dog go and find James/Logan and bring him home. Dog tracked Logan and eventually confronted him, but with the intent to kill him. During the fight, Logan went for a killing blow with his bone claws, but accidentally impaled Rose, killing her. Grief stricken and horrified, Logan fled into the woods.

Early Years of Wolverine

Death of Silver Fox

In 1910, Logan traveled to another frontier community in the Canadian Rockies. He met a young Blackfoot woman named Silver Fox, with whom he fell in love. The two shared a cabin together and lived happily for a time.

In late May, which is when Logan believed his birthday to be, Sabretooth murdered Silver Fox. Enraged, he battled Sabretooth, but was defeated. Sabretooth and a mysterious cloaked figure then convinced a feral, mindless Logan to slaughter the inhabitants of the town he had been living in at the time.

Later, employed by The Hudson's Bay Company as a fur trader to the Blackfoot Indians, he defeated the demonic snake-worm known as Uncegila, a feat which earned him the Blackfoot warrior name of "Skunk-Bear".

A broad, largely unseen conspiracy then began to shape Logan, robbed of his conscience and free will, into the perfect killer. Wherever Logan went, Sabretooth, one of his handlers, was not far behind.

Wolverine in World War I

Logan During The World War

In 1914, Logan joined the Canadian Army to fight during The Great War. During a battle in Belgium on April 22, 1915, Logan encountered Lazaer (anagram of Azrael, the Angel of Death) for the first time and a fight ensued. Lazaer got the upper hand and impaled Wolverine with his sword, but Logan pulled the sword from his body, and impaled Lazaer to defeat him. Since then, every time Logan has had a near death experience, he has had to battle Lazaer so that he was be able to return back to life.

When the authorities became aware of Logan's abilities, he was assigned to a special unit of the Canadian military, The Devil's Brigade. He was placed under the command of the superhumanly strong Silas Burr (who later become the mercenary Cyber).

Cyber murdered Logan's girlfriend, and during the confrontation, Logan was severely beaten and one of his eyes was taken out. Romulus ordered Cyber and Sabretooth to track him down. They found Logan in the woods and convinced him to return. Logan was then sent to Madripoor.

While in Madripoor, he met Seraph, the woman who owned the Princess Bar and took him under her wing. During this time, he also became friends with the prostitute Madame Joy, and eventually became part owner of the Princess Bar. Seraph appointed herself the guardian of Madripoor against the Hand. Logan began his travels again, this time landing in China. There he met a Chinese businessman named Chang, an employee of Landau, Luckman, and a man named Ogun, an immortal japanese samurai. Ogun was impressed with Logan's skills and offered to train him in martial arts and Sun Tzu.

Logan & Raven

In 1921, Logan met the mutant terrorist Mystique in Mexico, where they were both going to be executed by firing squad. They managed to escape and formed a gang of con men and criminals. Mystique and Logan soon became friends and lovers, but the partnership ended when Logan informed the police of their plan to rob a bank. They both became involved in the Weapon X program, where Logan gained his indestructible adamantium claws. This was the last time they were partnered together.

During the 1930s, the agency Logan was working for sent him to Russia to aid the Romanov family. There he learned espionage and befriended a young Natalia Romanov, later to become the Black Widow.

Wolverine, along with his good friend Puck, spent time fighting against the fascists forces during the Spanish Civil War.

Logan During WWII . As you can see, his early relationship with Captain America and Bucky wasn't the greatest.

During World War II, Logan teamed up with Captain America and Bucky in Madripoor. They rescued Natasha Romanova from being transformed into an assassin by Hand. Baron Wolfgang von Strucker became involved, causing Wolverine and Captain America to turn their attention toward HYDRA.

During this time, Seraph was killed by Sabretooth, presumably under the orders of the forces.

Logan in the fight for WWII

He would also team up with Kitty Pryde and Rachel Summers to fight against the Nazi's Baron Von Strucker and Geist, who partnered with the Shadow King to overthrow King Edward VIII.

Logan enlisted in the Armed Forces, joining the First Canadian Parachute Battalion. It was with this battalion that he first encountered Bloodscream, an immortal being with vampire-like qualities and powers.

Logan spent time fighting in both Europe and Japan, and ended the war by being hit with an atomic blast.

Logan was tortured, including a stint in a German concentration camp, and was paid to torture others during World War II. He killed Germans and Americans as well, and lived up to the name "Wolverine".

After The War

After WWII, Logan remained in Japan, having remembered Ogun's offer to train him. Logan developed a deep love of Japan.

Logan and Itsu

With his training finished, Logan traveled to Bando Saburo. There, he met and married a woman named Itsu, with whom he conceived a child. Logan was exiled from Bando Saburo when he impaled a local with his claws as the result of an explosion created by Muramasa. Before leaving, Logan discovered Itsu dead and Romulus had taken the child. Logan later learned that the child had become the assassin Daken.

Logan returned to Canada and his freelance intelligence work. One of his clients was the American CIA. On one occasion, Wolverine teamed up with Ben Grimm (later known as the Thing) to participate in a Cold War-era government mission. He was then recruited by Team X, a Black Ops section of the CIA.

Team X

Despite his many unusual feats of resilience and regeneration, Logan remained unaware of his mutant nature while with Team X. He was given false memory implants by Psi-Borg in order to make him easier to control. His overseers created the Shiva Scenario, an armada of armored robots whose only directive was to terminate Team X agents if they go rogue. Other members of Team X were Sabretooth, Silver Fox, John Wraith, Maverick and Mastodon. Mystique, under the name of Leni Zauber, also assisted Team X on occasion. Due to having his memories tampered with, Wolverine didn't recall Sabretooth, Silver Fox, or many of the events that had shaped his life.

On one of Team X's final missions, Logan and Sabretooth were ordered to assassinate the Soviet super-agent Epsilon Red. The mission was called off, but Sabretooth murdered Epsilon Red's wife for enjoyment. In Logan's final mission with Team X, he was dispatched to East Germany with Sabretooth, Maverick, and John Wraith to sabotage a Soviet super-soldier program in Berlin, steal an item called the carbonadium synthesizer and extract a double agent named Janice. On this mission, Team X fought another super-agent, Omega Red. Sabretooth discovered during their escape that Logan had regained control of himself and murdered Janice in an attempt to intimidate him back under team control.

Logan realized that he was a mutant and resigned from Team X. He then joined the Canadian Defence Ministry. On one occasion, he worked with Richard and Mary Parker, government agents and parents of Peter Parker, Spider-Man. He also first met Carol Danvers during this time and worked with her on a number of occasions.

Weapon X

In the serialized story "Weapon X", Barry Windsor-Smith created the back story for the man who would become Wolverine.

Logan was kidnapped by agents of the Weapon X Program, a joint U.S./Canadian program, and examined by Professor Thorton, Dr. Abraham Cornelius, and Carol Hines. The Professor learned that Logan is a mutant and bonded his bones with adamantium in an attempt to build the perfect weapon. Logan only survived the bonding through his healing factor. Lord Dark Wind, father of Lady Deathstrike, was the scientist that originally developed this bonding process. Logan was heavily sedated and controlled through a helmet, acting as a puppet and had his abilities put to the test. Eventually, Logan was able to resist this control and break free, He escaped the facility with the help of Winter Soldier, killing nearly everyone except for Professor Cornelius, Hines, and Malcolm Colcord.

Logan spent months traveling throughout the Canadian Rockies and there encountered the Hunter in Darkness.

Department H

Logan was eventually discovered by James and Heather Hudson, with whom he remained for some time. Following his recovery, Logan once again worked for the Canadian Government, this time with Department H.

Wolverine vs The Hulk

In his first mission, he was dispatched to stop the destruction caused by a brawl between the Hulk and the Wendigo.

In another mission, Iraqi militants and a group of hired mercenaries seized an American embassy in Iraq and took hostages, giving various ransom demands. Because there were Canadian hostages in the embassy, Wolverine was dispatched to handle the situation, along with an American/Canadian Delta Force. The reclaiming of the embassy was successful, however, following the battle, Wolverine found a Canadian nun dying from a bullet wound she received in the crossfire. She told him about how the hired American mercenaries had harassed her daily and subjected her to extreme psychological torture. Wolverine promised the nun he would avenge the suffering, and years later he hunted down the mercenaries and killed them.

James Hudson soon created Alpha Flight and recruited Logan with the intention of making him team leader.

Wolverine in the X-Men

Wolverine with the new X-Men

Wolverine was first introduced to the X-Men in Giant Sized X-Men #1, sporting a new look courtesy of artist Gil Kane. It was later learned that Logan was originally sent to assassinate Professor X, but instead resigned from Department H to join a team of new X-Men, which also included Nightcrawler, Banshee, Storm, Sunfire, Thunderbird, and Colossus as members. Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, was the leader of the team, but Logan's attraction to Scott's girlfriend, Jean Grey, caused immediate problems in their working relationship.

Logan and Jean

The mission for which Logan and his fellow team members were recruited was an attempt to save the original X-Men team from the island of Krakoa. Following the successful mission, Logan found himself in conflict with another of the original X-Men. Angel sees Logan with Jean Grey and believed that Logan was out of line. A fight almost ensued, but Jean interfered. Logan interpreted her defense to mean that she was attracted to him as well.

Department H attempted to lure Logan back through the use of James Hudson, but Logan chose to remain with the X-Men.

Logan returned to Japan after meeting a member of a powerful Yakuza family, Lady Mariko Yashida. It was to Mariko that he was speaking when we first learned that he refered to himself as "Logan". With Jean Grey still attached to Scott, Logan let himself fall in love with Mariko.

Vindicator attempted to capture Logan as the leader of Alpha Flight, but was defeated.

When Jean Grey, under the control of Phoenix, died, Scott resigned his place in the X-Men. Kitty Pryde joined as the newest X-Man, and Storm was named as the new team leader.

The other X-Men learned Logan's name on a mission with Nightcrawler to assist Alpha Flight in the defeat of Wendigo. This was also the first time Wolverine donned his brown and tan costume.

First Solo Mission

After Logan defeated and killed Lord Shingen Harada, he met Yukio for the frist time. He and Mariko made plans to wed, but the engagement was ended as a result of Viper, the Silver Samurai and the influence of Mastermind. After an X-Men battle in space, Logan fought to defend Japan from a dragon that the X-Men unintentionally brought back with them. Logan saved Amiko Kobayashi after her mother was killed in the fight. He left Amiko under the care of Yukio, and continued to visit them both on occasion.

Wolverine & Kitty

Kitty Pryde, who had become a good friend by this time, traveled with Logan to visit the now-dead Ogun. Ogun took control of Kitty, attempting to turn her into his personal assassin, but was defeated when she, with the help of Logan, ousted him from her body. Logan had no choice but to kill Ogun. After this encounter, Kitty and Logan became closer than ever and he developed an almost paternal nature toward her.

Patch

During The Fall of the Mutants and Inferno, Logan was the new team leader of the X-Men. Storm had left the team due to a loss of her power. At this time, the team members were Havok, Colossus, Rogue, Psylocke, Dazzler, and Longshot. The X-Men died in order to defeat Adversary, and returned in the Australian Outback. It was here that they encountered Jubilee when she saved Logan from Lady Deathstrike and he escaped the Reavers. Jubilee and Logan developed a close relationship over the years, with him being quite protective of her.

Logan returned to his life of wondering, returning to Hong Kong and Madripoor, and re-assuming the alias 'Patch'.

Logan traveled to the Savage Land under the influence of Apocalypse, and fathered a son named " Erista" with the chieftain Gahck. Logan ended the experiments in the Savage Land by defeating a robot version of Apocalypse.

Despite a long-running feud, Logan fought alongside Cable and the New Mutants in the battle against Stryfe and the Mutant Liberation Front. It was at this time that Logan went back to wearing his original costume. Nick Fury informed Logan that many of his memories, including much of his relationship with Sabretooth, were the result of memory implants installed during his time in the Weapon X Program.

Mariko's Death

Logan traveled back to Japan, but soon after his arrival, Mariko was poisoned by assassin Matsuo Tsurayaba. Dieing slowly, Mariko requested that Logan kill her and relieve her pain. Logan warned Matsuo that every year, on the anniversary of Mariko's death, he would come back to Japan to cut off a part of Matsuo's body.

Logan soon learned that Silver Fox was not dead after all, and they, together with Jubilee, Caroline Hines of the Weapon X Program, and former Team X members Sabertooth, Maverick, John Wraith, and Mastodon, tracked down Aldo Ferro, known by the pseudonym "Psi-Borg". Sabretooth, under the influence of Psi-Borg, killed Silver Fox before Ferro's ultimate defeat.

The losses of Mariko and Silver Fox caused Logan to suffer a break with reality. He became delusional and set out on what he believed to be a Weapon X mission to kill Terry Adams, pseudonym Epsilon Red. Adams used his psychic abilities to help Logan gain a greater knowledge of his own memories.

Logan lost much of his mutant abilities, including his healing factor, when Magneto removed the adamantium from his body. The recovery overloaded his healing factor, leaving him in a weakened state. In an attempt to regain his strength, Logan began training in the Danger Room, but when he extended his now-bone claws, he was seriously injured. Believing that he was no longer of use to the X-Men, Logan left the team.

Professor Xavier, Beast, and Heather Hudson embarked on a series of studies that seemed to show that Logan's mutation was ongoing, and while natural abilities would return, the mutation would also result in a slow change from human into something closer to a wild animal. The adamantium slowed this mutation because his body was forced to try to expel it as a foreign body. The removal of the metal caused the mutation to accelerate to its natural strength, ultimately increasing both his senses and his healing factor.

Cable's villainous son Genesis later tried to turn Logan into one of the Horseman of the Apocalypse and re-bonded adamantium to his bones. While unsuccessful, the process drove Logan to an uncontrollable state. He tracked the Dark Riders to their headquarters and slaughtered them. He regained control only through the assistance of Elektra and Stick.

Wolverine as Death: Horseman of Apocalypse

Apocalypse arranged a fight between Logan and Sabretooth to determine which would become the fourth Horseman of Apocalypse. Logan did not relish the idea of relinquishing control of himself to Apocalypse, but believed that Sabretooth will enjoy killing indiscriminately, and hoped to be strong enough to escape. With Logan's victory, he had adamantium re-bonded to his bones after Apocalypse tore it from Sabretooth. Logan broke free of the grasp of Apocalypse with the aid of Jubilee. Upon his return to the X-mansion, Logan killed the Skrull that had been impersonating him in his absence.

Malcolm Colcord, leading the Weapon X program, captured Logan and informed him that his old Weapon X implants were still operational. Under the control of Colcord, Logan slaughtered the former Director and former members of the program. Logan's implants were then destroyed and he was told that he, Weapon X, is really Weapon 10. The Weapon X Program was really only a part of the larger program that started with Steve Rogers and Isaiah Bradley, Weapon Plus. Logan, with the aid of Scott Summers and Fantomex, set out to destroy Weapon Plus. It was during this mission that Wolverine killed Weapon XV, Ultimaton. Logan discovered that he was programmed to be a living Sentinel and while under the program's control, brutally murdered the inhabitants of a village. Jean Grey helped Logan to overcome his guilt, but was killed by Magneto. Logan took out his revenge on Magneto by taking his life in return.

Logan was then made an agent of The Hand and Hydra, and in this capacity, killed Northstar. The New Avengers recruited Logan after S.H.I.E.L.D. executed his rescue. On this team, Logan fought alongside Ironman, Spider-Man, Luke Cage, and Captain America.

Evolution

One last scrap

Logan captured Sabretooth and interrogated him about a being from Logan's dreams called Romulus, but Sabretooth refused to give him any information. The Black Panther told Logan of a theory that many animal-like mutants may have evolved from canine roots and not primates. He also told of a graveyard of these canine-descended beings.

The Black Panther gathered Wolfsbane, Feral, Thornn, and Sasquatch, as well as Logan, to attempt to seek out information at the Weapon X compound. Sasquatch became separated from the team and was attacked by Wild Child. Wild Child was stronger than before, and suggested to Logan that it was as a result of Romulus.

During this time, Logan had his bone claws broken in a skirmish with his old nemesis Cyber. While in Madripoor, Logan learned from Gambit that Sabretooth was at Xavier's school. Logan returned to confront Sabretooth, and in the ensuing battle, chained him to a jet. Sabretooth survived and ended up in Wakanda, only to be possessed by Romulus.

Eventually, Sabretooth broke free and butchered Feral. Logan returned to the Xavier school to seek the Muramasa Blade from Cyclops, and with the aid of Emma Frost, retrieved it. Logan then tracked Sabretooth to the cabin that Logan had shared with Silver Fox. He felt himself losing control and returning a wild state. The Black Panther tracked Sabretooth and was almost killed, but Logan interrupted the fight. After he was defeated, Sabretooth requested for Logan to end his life. His request was granted.

Civil War

In his next fight, Logan faced off against Scimitar. He was made to believe that Tony Stark was going to be killed at a Scimitar base, and raced to his aid. This turned out to be a set up, and he was attacked by Amir in a suit made of adamantium. An explosive was forced down Logan's throat after he killed Amir's lover. Stark found Logan brain dead, but with his body still in good shape.

For the first time, Logan lost the battle against Lazaer, an anagram for Azrael, the Angel of Death. Doctor Strange uncovered that since his resurrection by HYDRA and the Hand, Logan no longer wanted to live, and his soul was now stuck in Purgatory. When Logan woke up, he began a hunt for Phaedra. Logan had struck a deal with the Angel of Death that if he could kill Phaedra, his soul would be returned to him. For this fight, Logan's healing factor was weakened and any severe injury would result in his death.

Messiah Complex

Again in the company of the X-Men, Logan was on a mission to find a baby mutant that was thought to be held at Mister Sinister's base by Mister Sinister and the Marauders. Cable was discovered to be the one that had the baby after Logan stabbed Gambit through the stomach and interrogated him.

X-Force

Logan was ordered by Scott Summers to gather his fellow X-Force members X-23, Wolfsbane, Warpath, Hepzibah, and Caliban and recover the child from Cable at any cost. They tracked Cable down and Logan attempted to apprehend him. As Logan, Caliban, and Warpath raced after Cable, a bullet heading directly for Warpath was stopped by Caliban, who sacrificed his body to do so. In the meantime, Cable stole the Blackbird jet and escaped.

Logan then led the X-Force in battle against the Marauders. Logan was swallowed by Predator X in this battle, and sliced his way out from the inside.

Get Mystique

It was through a flashback at the beginning of this tale that we learned that Logan and Mystique had a shared history that began in Mexico in 1921.
Scott Summers gave Logan the command to hunt down and kill Mystique for her seeming betrayal of the X-Men in the Messiah Complex.

The Battle

Mystique employed the explosive destruction of a Mosque in Tehran to facilitate her escape, and viciously murdered a girl in Afghanistan while in the guise of Logan. The villagers exacted their revenge on Logan, as he allowed himself to be shot multiple times.

Logan tracked Mystique and a fight broke out. Logan delivered a vicious blow, but did not kill Mystique, choosing instead to leave her a gun.

Wolverine Origins

Logan used the Muramasa Blade to defeat a Shiva robot at the opening of the Wolverine Origins story arc.

In the flashback that follows, we saw Logan during the Vietnam war. Logan kidnapped Nuke and used a trigger word to force him to kill the residents of a town in Vietnam. Captain America was sent to stop him, but after wounding Logan with the Muramasa Blade, Cyclops, Hellion and Emma Frost stepped in to save Captain America. Emma Frost used her telepathic abilities to calm the opponents. It was Emma that informed Logan that the son he shared with his great love Itsu was alive and known by the name Daken. She also told him that Daken did not have control of his own thoughts, and urged Logan to focus his efforts on saving his son, not seeking revenge. Logan entrusted the Muramasa Blade to Cyclops with instructions that Logan must be killed if he again fell under the control of outside forces.

Fighting an old enemy

Logan's first step was to meet up with his former Team X partner Maverick back in New York City. Logan believed that carbonadium might be able to weaken Daken, and allow Logan to defeat him without it being necessary to take his life. The carbonadium synthesizer was in the care of Maverick, but when Logan tracked him to a New York City building, he fond Jubilee amongst the mutants living there. Also seeking the synthesizer was Omega Red, who burst into the building a few moments after Logan. Jubilee and Maverick rescued the building's inhabitants as Logan battled Omega Red.

As a member of Team X, Logan was being used in experiments with carbonadium between missions. After one of these experiments, and before his memory was erased, as was done between every mission, Logan broke free and killed one of the scientists. Logan threatened the remaining scientist with his bone claws and wanted to know from whom the orders came. The scientist did not have the answer, so Logan told him to inform his superiors that the mind-wipe was successful. Logan received his orders for the next mission in Berlin. It was there that Logan first met Omega Red.

Meanwhile, Omega Red overpowered Logan and rendered him momentarily unconscious. Logan awoke to the sound of Jubilee's screams. Maverick informed him that Omega Red had Jubilee and knew the location of the carbonadium synthesizer. Logan traveled to Berlin with Dum Dum Dugan and S.H.I.E.L.D. chasing after him.

The Team X mission in Berlin was to steal the carbonadium synthesizer, which Logan made plans to use on Sabretooth. Before Logan could execute it, Omega Red attacked and forced Team X to flee along with a female scientist. When Sabretooth
ealized that Logan was no longer under Team X control, he killed the scientist to try to get Logan back under Team X control.

While Logan was meeting with the Black Widow, S.H.I.E.L.D. agents attacked, and Jubilee was injured in the fight. Logan surrendered on the condition that Jubilee receive medical attention. On the S.H.I.E.L.D. base, Logan was restrained and Daken walked in a S.H.I.E.L.D. uniform. Daken said that he was disappointed by how weak Logan was, and used his bone claws to wound his father.

The mercenary Deadpool was hired to kill Wolverine by a mysterious party willing to pay big money. Deadpool accepted, possibly still mad at Wolverine for gutting him recently, Deadpool actually planed his attack first he ambushed Logan in a city, first he shot, maimed and blew up Logan and then used an AIM device to attach Wolverine to a passing subway cart and drag him down a street at very high speed this gave Deadpool a chance to prep for his next assault. When Wolverine gets free he is in berserker rage, Deadpool was ready for this but he was not counting on Wolverine cutting off a large chunk of Wade’s hand off and Wolverine started to savagely slashing Deadpool, while during the fight, a woman started screaming for help next to a burning car, Wolverine ran over to help, slicing open the car door which caused a back draft which badly burnt Logan, Logan recovered in seconds, Logan went to save the baby in the front seat to Logan’s surprise the baby was a doll which blew up in his face. Deadpool had paid the woman to do this to Logan and gave her a little bit more on top on the fee the agreed because she did a convincing scream. However Deadpool underestimated Wolverine’s healing factor, Logan was up and plunged his claws into Deadpool’s chest but didn’t hit anything vital, Deadpool managed to left his gun with a re-grown hand, put it under Logan’s chin and fire, both men slumped together neither standing or falling.

Deadpool suffered the less damage so he healed quicker, when Logan woke up he was suspended over a pool of water, tied up and hand cuffed with no way to escape, Deadpool intended to drown Wolverine but just before Deadpool could pull the leaver he got his hand cut off by Daken, who had waited to the last moment to make his presence known, Deadpool had little to react other than telling Daken that 1985 wanted its hair back. Daken pulled the leaver sending Wolverine into the water, this annoyed Deadpool and the two begin to fight, Daken quickly gained the upper hand, during the fight Daken kicks two of Deadpool’s grenades into the pool and freed Logan, the fight continued, Daken slaughtered Deadpool by cutting both of his hands off and savagely slashed him in the chest and stomach, taking him out of the confrontation. Daken went and confronted Logan but before he can say anything Daken is shot with one of the three Carbonadium bullets made out of what was left of the Carbonadium Synthesizer which was used to make a new pacemaker for Cyber.

Logan picks Daken up in his arms and starts to walk towards the door, Logan comes across a bloody Deadpool’ Logan tells him that him and Bucky set him up to draw out Daken and that he let Deadpool catch him, just before Logan leaves with his son he tell Deadpool that if he comes near him or his son he will kill him. While walking to meet Bucky, Logan starts to talk to Daken [who is unconscious still] “There’s a rifle shug lodged in your brain. It’s made o’ Carbonadium. Its gonna keep your healin’ factor from kickin’ in. Not forever just long enough for me to take you someplace secure. It took almost took me a hundred years for me to get my own mind back. Now, I’m gonna get your back too.”

Logan was informed by Scott Summers that Professor Xavier was alive, and set out on a mission to find him. Professor Xavier, he believed, could help in his son's recovery. In the meantime, Daken was kidnapped by Sebastian Shaw and the new Hellfire Club.

Logan, it is learned, was initially sent by Romulus to assassinate Professor Xavier. Foiled in that attempt by the telepathic powers of Professor Xavier, Romulus focused on Daken. Professor Xavier was able to make Daken see the truth about the loss of his mother, and received Logan's full forgiveness in return.

Logan and Daken went on the hunt for Romulus. After accepting an offer of assistance from Cyber, Daken turned first on Logan to team with Cyber, then on Cyber.

Logan later met with Nick Fury after learning that Daken was now working alongside the Dark Avengers. Together they traveled to New York to prevent Daken's death at the hands of the X-men. They were successful in this attempt, but after Daken's escape, the Tinkerer bonded his muramasa claw to adamantium.

Logan battled Omega Red again after traveling to Russia to kill Romulus. Logan was injured in the fight, and then forced to face off against Wildchild. Omega Red kill\ed Wildchild just before Logan was thrown into molten iron. Logan stabbed Omega Red to prevent him from getting between him and Romulus again. Romulus was suddenly behind Logan and a battle ensued. After losing this fight, Logan sought out Bruce Banner for help. When Banner could not be of assistance himself, he traveled with Logan to recruit Dagger onto the mission to kill Romulus.

Manifest Destiny

50 years past, Logan worked for, and in the end fought, the head of Chinese crime in San Francisco's Chinatown, Black Dragon. Logan apparently committed some sort of betrayal and was ordered to never return to Chinatown or he will die.

50 years later, with the X-men based in San Francisco, Wolverine returned to Chinatown and was instantly noticed by a swordsman named Lo Jan. Lo Jan confronted Wolverine, but before the two could fight, Lo Jan was shot in the back by the a woman called Lin. Lin was Wolverine’s old girlfriend, and the current Black Dragon. It was also hinted at that it was Lin whom Wolverine had betrayed 50 years ago. Black Dragon revealed her four Kung Fu warriors, Rock of the Buddha, Fist of Fire, Storm Sword and Soulstriker. The four warriors were heavily beating him, and were only stopped by the sounds of police cars. When they turned their attention back to the floor where Logan had been, he had escaped into the sewers.

Wolverine proves he's the best there is at what he does.

Badly injured, Logan was missing an eye, and, thanks to Soulstriker, his soul was not much better off. An old man dragged Logan into an under ground cave. When Logan awoke it was revealed that he had known the old man. Master Po was a martial arts master that had refused to train Logan during his first tenure in Chinatown, but he changed his mind because Logan was a better man than he had been. Po offered Logan a chance to train with him, which Logan happily accepted.

It was revealed that 50 years ago Wolverine had made the plan of combining all of the fighting schools of Chinatown under his leadership. They had all agreed, and under Logan's leadership they had defeated the Black Dragon's army. The fight concluded with Logan cutting off the Black Dragon's head. After the battle, the other school had asked Logan to become the new Black Dragon but he had refused. Just before Logan could ride away, he had been attacked by Lo Jan, who stabbed him in the eye with a spear end.

Back in the present, Logan again tried to unite the martial schools, but this time, they kicked him through the window. Before they could inflict any more damage, Logan and Po escaped back under-ground to Po's home. There Po continued to train Logan, telling him that he had come to rely on his healing factor too much while fighting.

Logan traveled back to the surface to ask for the help of The Sons Of The Tiger, but they also refused. Before anything else could happen, they were attacked by the Hot Handed Gods Of Guns, who were trying to collect the bounty that Black Dragon had put on Logan's head. Logan and two members of Son Of The Tiger made short work of them, but a team of police officers raided the building and saw Logan kill the final member of the gang.

Logan waited until his arrival at jail to make his escape. He used his phone call to place a call to Nightcrawler, asking to be teleported out of the police station.

After Nightcrawler teleported Logan to freedom, Logan set off a rematch with the Black Dragon and her warriors. Logan found Black Dragon and her warriors in the middle of the street making threats to everyone in Chinatown. Even Po was there, but still, no one spoke up against her. When Logan arrived, he challenged them, and unlike their last meeting, Logan's martial arts skills were too much for the four warriors. Not one of them was a match for Logan even without the use of his claws. Logan defeated all of the warriors and one of them, Soulstriker, revealed that the Black Dragon Logan had killed 50 years ago was Soulstriker's grandfather.

With her warriors dead and defeated, Lo told her goons to kill Logan. Before they could make an attack, The Sons Of The Tiger arrived with Po to aid Logan. Together they made short work of the goons and managed to escape before the police arrived. Lo also escaped with her life. Logan was again offered the Black Dragon mantle by the martial arts schools, and this time, he accepted.

Leader of X-Force

X-Force (vol. 3) #12

Scott Summers made the decision to reassemble X-Force with the intent of permanently eliminating the threat posed by key enemies.

Their first mission was against Matthew Risman and the Purifiers.

It was then discovered that Vanisher made an attempt to steal a sample of the legacy virus. X-Force was relieved to find that he had been unable to make off with the sample. While at Sinister's lab, Vanisher had come under attack by a pack of Marauder clones and dropped the sample.

Powers and Abilities

Like all other super-powered mutants, Logan was born with a special powers: heightened senses, bone claws that protrude from his hands and an incredible healing ability which would enable him to recover from injuries at surprising speed. It appears to be this last ability that made it possible for Wolverine's entire skeleton to be reinforced with adamantium, an almost indestructible metal. Wolverine's claws, which he uses as the deadliest of weapons, are coated with adamantium, too, and extend from the backs of his hands at his mental command. There is more to that hot temper that Wolverine displays: he has an animalistic, murderous side to his personality that once seemed wholly uncontrollable. Even when Wolverine is in full control of himself, he can be ruthless with his enemies.

Logan's healing factor has increased in strength so much throughout the years that the only way to kill Wolverine is to decapitate him and remove his brain from the vicinity of his body. He is immune to most drugs and poisons, and his rate of aging has been slowed down considerably. His healing factor was originally supposed to be just accelerated healing, however, at time went on, writers have made his healing much more powerful to the point where he can regenerate lost organs. Since Wolverine has the ability to heal quickly, his stamina is practically limitless. An example of Wolverine's incredible stamina is when he fought Omega Red for 18 straight hours. Wolverine’s healing factor also allows him to push his strength beyond any normal human being’s limit.

Wolverine also possesses amazing agility and reflexes. He possesses animalistic senses which allow him to see further than normal humans, hear better and also enables him to track people by scent. His senses are so strong that even in complete darkness, Wolverine can basically see through it. His hearing ability allows him to hear things humans cannot and he can also hear things from a great distance. His sense of smell allows him to identify people by scent alone, this includes shapeshifters. It also allows him to hunt his quarry for great distances.

Wolverine’s physical build is also a part of his mutation in which he has sharp teeth and three retractable bone claws housed in his fore-arms. These claws are extra durable and naturally sharp. This allows Wolverine to climb sheer structures and cut through most types of materials including flesh, bone, wood, glass and some types of rocks and metals. When he extracts the claws, it always cuts through his knuckles but his healing factor closes the wound right away. His skeletal system and claws were coated with adamantium, making them virtually unbreakable during the Weapon X program. The adamantium gives Wolverine the ability to cut through any solid material. With the adamantium infused throughout his skeleton, it protects his brain since it is laced through the skull. The adamantium being laced all over his skeleton also allows Wolverine to lift heavy objects without shattering any bones.

Unlike most mutants, Logan will never stop mutating. This means his abilities like his healing factor and animal senses will continue to get stronger. Feral by nature, Wolverine's constant mutation process will cause him to degenerate physically and mentally into a more primitive, bestial state. However, the presence of adamantium slows his mutation process down.

Skills

Wolverine is considered one of the best hand to hand fighters in the world. He has exceptional hand-to-hand fighting skills, as well as being adept at using many different types of weapons. He especially favors swords, such as the Muramasa Blade. Traveling the world, through his entire life, Wolverine has become a master in many forms of martial arts and is familiar with nearly all. Wolverine was also a samurai and is a skilled katana user. He has defeat other master fighter's like Shang-Chi and he has beaten Captain America many times, he has killed thousands of Hand ninja's at a time. Wolverine is also skilled in espionage due to his time in the army and being made a weapon. He recently took down 5 Mystic Masters at the same time without even pulling out his claws. He is at home in the wilderness and has proved capable of hunting and surviving even in the harshest of climates.

In addition to his physical skills, Wolverine is very intelligent. Having had an increased lifespan, he traveled around the world and amassed knowledge of foreign culture. He speaks fluent English, Japanese, Russian, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Cheyenne, and Lakota and knows some French, German, Thai, Vietnamese, Italian, and Portuguese.

Wolverine has the ability to go into a berserk rage in which his mind acts on animal instinct and rage. During this mode he is immune to any psionic attack and attacks relentlessly. Wolverine is also capable of using team tactics honed by his years with the X-Men such as the Fastball Special, a move which was perfected with Colossus. It involves Colossus throwing Wolverine at much greater speeds than he could have attained on his own. It is also beneficial in helping Wolverine reach areas that he couldn't have reached on his own. A slightly different technique is also used with Cannonball, known as the Cannonball Special.

Alternate Universes

Earth-1610 - Ultimate universe

Ultimate Wolverine

On Earth-1610 Wolverine was an Assassin that was hired by Magneto to kill Charles Xavier. After infiltrating the X-Men, Wolverine begins a romantic relationship with Jean Grey. After he admitted that he was hired by the Brotherhood to join the team and kill Xavier, Jean broke up with him and got back together with Cyclops. Later it was revealed by Captain America that he had worked with Logan during World War II, Wolverine was under the name Corporal James Howlett of the Canadian Air Force. Wolverine was also revealed to be immune to radar because of the modifications he went through during Weapon X program.

After Jean and Cyclops began dating again, during one of the missions where Wolverine went on with Cyclops, Wolverine had apparently let Cyclops fall off a cliff to die in the Savage Lands. Wolverine would continue to try and make a move on Jean by comforting her after Cyclops “death.” However, Cyclops survived the fall and would eventually return. Though it came as a shock to the entire X-Men when Cyclops allowed Wolverine to remain on the X-Men. After the Beast was killed by a sentinel, Wolverine began to date Storm. While they were out on a date, they were attacked by Sabretooth who revealed that he had memories of Wolverine being his father. Wolverine was hired by Nick Fury to kill the Hulk but after a long fight between himself and Hulk, the two part ways. Wolverine joined forces with the Ultimates to help track Magneto to the Savage Land and to find out who killed the Scarlet Witch. He revealed to the Ultimates that he once had an affair with Magneto's wife (mother of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver) but could never find her again after Magneto caught them. During Ultimatum, Wolverine returned to the Savage Land to stop Jamie Madrox and with the help of Ka-zar and Shanna, killed Lorilee and confronted Jamie, who turned out to be a 13 year old boy and was force to kill him when he couldn't snap him out of his mind control. Wolverine met his demise during the final battle with Magneto who took control of Iron-Mans armor and Cyclopes' visor and burned off all of Wolverines skin. Wolverine stabbed him again only to be killed when Magneto ripped out the adamantium from his bones leaving only a hand which was left on the grave site of all the mutants who died during Ultimatum. It was revealed that Wolverine had a son called Jimmy Hudson who had the exact powers as his father

Earth-1610

Earth-2107 - Cable (Ultimate) future

The Ultimate version of Cable was a future timeline version of Wolverine. Convinced that taking out Professor X earlier in his life would prevent the apocalyptic future from happening, Cable came back with Ultimate Domino and fought the X-Men, eventually succeeding in killing Xavier. Ultimate Cable resembled Wolverine in many aspects. He was outfitted with futuristic weapons capable of taking out any of the X-Men of the present. While unexplained, his healing factor was no longer active. One of his arms had been replaced with a robotic arm, and he had scars across his face. He still had claws that could come out of his good arm, however, without a healing factor it was much more painful to pop them out and when the claws were retracted the wounds in his hands healed at a more normal human rate. Because this version of Cable came from a future timeline, his own reality wouldn't be Earth-1610 but has been designated Earth-2107.

Earth-295 - Age of Apocalypse

Logan in the Age of Apocalypse reality went by the code name Weapon X. In this reality he never had his adamantium ripped out by Magneto and therefore, was never forced to learn to control his feral rage. Weapon X was also recruited by the X-Men, whose leader is Magneto instead of Professor Xavier. At first, Weapon X did not want to join, but after he met privately with Jean Grey, he reconsidered and joined the X-Men. Wolverine and Jean connected romantically right away and the two would begin a romantic relationship. When Mr. Sinister kidnapped Jean Grey, Weapon X went to rescue her. He would encounter Scott Summers and Summers would blast Weapon X’s left hand off. However, he got his revenge when Weapon X was able to gouge one of Summers' eyes out. Magneto had Weapon X train his new recruits, one of which was Shadowcat.

Magneto had Weapon X train Shadowcat to become his personal assassin. Months later, the X-Men would be contacted by Mr. Sinister and revealed Apocalypse’s plans of attacking all humans in Europe. Weapon X and Jean contacted the Human High Council from which they learned that the Council was going to launch a nuclear missile on America to destroy Apocalypse. Later, Jean was killed by Alex Summers but Weapon X was able to avenge her by killing Summers. Later it was revealed to Logan by Magneto that Jean was still alive but under the mind control of Mr. Sinister. They were able to rescue Jean and lifted the mind control from her, and Weapon X and Jean continued their relationship. Weapon X would later be revealed to have a daughter named Kirika (this universe's version of X-23).

Earth-2149 (Marvel Zombies)

In the Marvel Zombies alternate universe Wolverine was, as most of earth's heroes, turned into a zombie. Here Wolverine played an key role and was a primary character and along with a few other zombies he gained cosmic powers by consuming first Silver Surfer, then Galactus.

In Earth X, Earth-9997, James Howlett was not the biological son of the Howletts. In fact, the Howlett’s second child had died in childbirth. The Howletts decided to adopt a new son and ended up adopting a baby from the Moon Clan. The Moon Clan were a bestial race that was able to co-exist with normal human beings. The Howletts adopted a child who would grow up to be James Howlett, also known as Wolverine. Wolverine and Sabretooth both still hated each other in this alternate reality. It was because Sabretooth was from the Bear Clan, who are half-beast and half-human that were the hated rivals of the Moon Clan. Since Wolverine was from the Moon Clan, their hatred towards each other was natural.

Earth-811 - Days of Future Past

Wolverine was one of only a few mutants left, along with Storm, Colossus, and Kitty Pryde. In this alternate reality, the X-Men had failed to stop the assassination of Senator Robert Kelly. In retaliation, the Sentinels would soon help enforce the United States of America against Mutants in general. During one of the confrontations against the Sentinels, Wolverine jumped towards a Sentinel ready to kill it when a Sentinel ended up killing Wolverine with its laser. It burned off all of Wolverine’s flesh and he fell to the ground, with only his adamantium left on the ground.

Earth 5700 - Alternate Days of Future Past

Continuing Earth-811. Shortly after his death the remains were recovered by X-51 (Machine Man) of Earth-9997 (Earth X). X-51 revived Wolverine using technology used by Merlyn to revive Captain Britain, and Wolverine joined X-51's group of Heralds.
This version of Wolverine had begun to show signs of aging, beginning to get gray hair at the temples. He was also a very experienced fighter, having fought Sentinels for almost two centuries.

He later found out that he was lead there by his older brother, (John Howlett Jr., who was also a mutant), who planned to blow up Las Vegas and then attempted to take over the country. Logan stopped his brother but accidently killed him and John died in Logan's arms.

Earth-90210 - Old Man Logan

50 years ago, Wolverine was involved in an incident that caused him to never again pop his unbreakable adamantium claws. Later, an old man living on a farm in California, his life seemed to be okay, except that his famous healing factor had deteriorated, and he needed to pay his rent to a harsh family known as the Hulk gang, descended from the green giant himself, who Logan had many legendary battles against, as well as serious differences of opinion.

Earth-90210 (Old Man Logan)

Logan was late on his rent and the Hulk Gang was there to collect. They were clearly upset, for a second, Logan dreamed of popping his claws, and slicing one of the members in half. Then his eyes opened, and the member of the Hulk gang he dreamed of killing delivered a serious pounding on Logan, sure to kill any regular man. As his days went on, he met up with a former warrior of his, Hawkeye.

Clint Barton told Logan he was now a blind man, and was delivering a package to New Babylon. He agreed to go, and they ventured off into the night. For a blind man, Barton still had good co-ordination, and could even drive. They were stopped by goons employed by the mysterious new Kingpin of crime. This Kingpin had killed Magneto, and had captured Punisher, and Daredevil. When Daredevil asked where Ashley Barton was, the daughter of Clint, he fed them both to a couple of Dinosaurs in a public coliseum. Barton and Logan crashed in later on the Kingpin's lair, killed his goons, and rescued Ashley.

However she turned on Clint and Logan, demanding their deaths. They escaped and were being pursued by Ashley's henchmen. As they were on the run, Logan revealed why he no longer used his claws in battle. One night, at the X-Mansion, Jubilee and Wolverine prepared to go to a battle site. Just as Jubillee sat up, an explosion occurred, killing Jubilee. Doctor Octopus, the Silver Samurai, Mr.Sinister, Klaw, Scorpion, Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, the Green Goblin, Stryfe, Blob, Mr.Hyde, Bullseye, and Sabretooth stood in front of him. Wolverine entered into a feral beserker rage that he had never experienced before in his life. He killed all the villains, with Bullseye being the last, and most difficult. As the massacre was over, Mysterio made his enterance, revealing that all was an illusion, and these were not villains, but his fellow X-Men. Logan left the mansion immediately, crying, a broken man. He tried to kill himself by letting a train run over him. It didn't work, but did hurt. Logan and Hawkeye were in the truck, and realized the Venom Symbiote had found a new host, a T-Rex. Logan stepped on the gas, as the pursuing Rex fell, broke it's foot, and the Symbiote departed.

Logan and Barton headed for Washington to have a 'meeting' with the new President, The Red Skull. In the demolished front yard of the White House laid Bucky Barnes, as Captain America, dying while the Red Skull stood victorious wearing a Nazi S.S. uniform. Clint Barton entered the premises, and was killed by the security guards, while Logan faked his death, and was brought to the Red Skull in a body bag. His room was draped in Swastika flags, and his trophies were the costumes, and weapons of the fallen heroes. When the guards opened Logan's bag, he emerged, and killed the guards, leaving it Logan and the Red Skull, one on one. Skull taunted him about how no longer popped his claws, and how pathetic Wolverine had deteriorated into. Logan then charged Skull, who was wearing a black coat and the mask of Captain America.

Red Skull smashed Logan into the glass, and all of the heroes gadgets and costumes fell out. Red Skull was about to kill Logan with Ebony Blade, and as he was about to make the kill strike, Logan rightfully grabbed the shield of Captain America. Striking the Red Skull, he continued his taunts, and to end to Red Skull, he did it the only way right, by decapitating him with Cap's shield. As the guards broke through the doors, Logan didn't have the shield, but was wearing Tony Stark's Iron Man armor, he killed them, and flew back home to California, but crashed in the desert. When he arrived home, he received the news of his family being killed by the Hulk Gang for not paying his rent.

His pastor said the best way for him to honor his family was for a proper burial. But Logan knew that's no the right way. After 50 years of not being a hero, donning the tights, popping his claws, and going on wild adventures, it was over. He finally made the famous SNIKT, and his claws came out. Wolverine was back! For revenge! He delivered his first fits of beserker to the young drinkers in the Hulk Gang in a bar eating body parts. As one punk Hulk frightens the bar tender, the lights went out, one of the other members turned the lights back on, and saw a horrifying sight. Wolverine with his claws through the head of their dead brother. He killed the others, then went to the Hulk Gang's home, and killed all of the members. Inside the cave was an old Bruce Banner, with a baby. Banner explained he had made love to Jennifer Walters to form the gang, and the two began a slugfest. It ended shortly with the Hulk eating Logan. Later on, in the cave, Banner, got indigestion, and Wolverine suddenly clawed his way out of his stomach. Wolverine took the baby with him, the only Hulk Gang member he did not kill. And took him off into a journey into the wilderness.

Wolverine Noir

This story arc was set in the Noir Universe where nobody has superpowers, and the Logan that appeared in this arc was a different person than the one that appeared in X-Men Noir. Jim Logan was a small time private detective who was down on his luck but he was much more that that. He owned a detective agency with his 'brother' Dog Logan in New York. It was another quiet day at the office and Logan was thinking of killing his partner again when Mariko Yashida walked through the door.

She was in New York for her father and she suspected she was being followed, she gave Jim a hotel name and her number. Jim took her case but Dog offered to take it instead, and Jim obliged. While waiting for Dog to get back Jim thought about his past, it was revealed that Jim's father was a preacher who ignored his son because he thought Jim had a sick soul but Jim didn't care but there was a young girl the same age as Jim called Rose who lived next door to the church, Jim liked Rose a lot but there was always a problem, Dog, he was the son of the church's maintenance man, he was much bigger than Jim and was very dense and followed Rose every where, Rose was not interested in Dog so she left. However there was a person who Jim was not afraid of, he was called Smitty, he was the church's gardener but before that he fought in a great war and was a master samurai warrior.

Jim idolized Smitty and was intrigued by samurai's, Smitty taught Jim how to fight and use a blade, even only in his mid-teens Jim was an extremely talented fighter and brilliant with a blade. In one training section in the green house with Smitty, Jim finally got an advantage on Smitty but Rose entered the green house and hid in the bushes to watch and as always, Dog was with her. As the two fight Dog snook up to Smitty's samurai set to steal some of it to try to impress Rose but Smitty spotted him and threw his wooden knife at his hand, Smitty warned Dog if he touched his set again he'd kill him. Before they leave, Smitty gave Dog a small toy knife and told him it's the only knife he deserved.

Jim was the only other person who Smitty let near his set let alone his set. Back in the present, Dog has gone to follow up the case at the hotel, he was looking for a man called Creed, one day later, Jim went to the hotel because Dog hadn't called in for a day, two men were waiting for Jim, the two men attacked Jim, they were skilled swordsman but they didn't get a chance to show it, Jim pulled out six knifes which he used as claws [much like wolverine's claws] the knives were given to him by Smitty. Jim tore the two men apart, Jim searched the room the men were guarding and found Dog's toy knife [the same one that Smitty gave him] soaked in blood, Jim stated that he will find Dog because he owed him.

The Cancerverse

During an expedition into The Fault; Raza, Ch'od, Mentor, Neutron, Starbolt, Fang, Plutonia, Oracle, Quasar (Wendell Vaughn) and Talon of The Fraternity of Raptors came into contact with a quartet of bio-organic war vessels from The Cancerverse that had infiltrated the Mainstream Marvel Universe and were setting a course for Chandilar, the Shi'ar Throneworld.

During the battle against the Cancerverse Warships, one of them was damaged by spewed out millions of eggs, all of which gave birth to grotesque-looking X-Men turned super bio-weapons, including a very powerful and dangerous version of Wolverine with elongated claws, two sets of razor-sharp teeth and a chest that could "bloom" open like a Giger Egg, freeing the "bladed" tentacles within.

Television and Film Appearances

Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends
Wolverine appeared with Angel, Professor X and other X-Men in a flashback that stated the history of Firestar. He was among the X-Men who fought Juggernaut and Magneto in separate incidents. During the X-Men's adventure along with Spider-Man, he and Angel were not shown among them. Pryde of the X-Men Pryde of the X-Men Wolverine was a member of the X-Men. When the X-men were introduced to Kitty Pryde as a new member of

the X-men, Wolverine refused and just insulted her. The power circuit was then stolen by the Brotherhood and Wolverine blamed her and threw her platitude. Dazzler then calmed Wolverine and Kitty down. The X-Men attempted to retrieve the machine and Wolverine was assigned to use his tracking abilities to detect the machine. The Brotherhood then blocked their way and Wolverine faced Toad one on one. By the joined forces of Nightcrawler and Kitty Pryde, they were able to destroy the Brotherhood's plans. The X-Men congratulated Kitty for saving the entire humanity. Storm then asked him what can he say about Kitty after her heroic performance. Wolverine was a little disappointed for insulting Kitty and even if he did not directly stated, it seemed that the message meant that Kitty needs time to become a better X-Man.

X-Men Animated Series
In X-Men Animated Series Logan was an X-Man. He only remembered a small part of his past. He was also in love with Jean Grey who was Cyclops' girlfriend at that time. He never killed an opponent but would do it if no one was there to assist him. Logan and Scott's decision was then to

leave Morph and Beast behind following an attack from the Sentinels led to Wolverine feeling a great resentment for the Cyclops. Wolverine had met Nightcrawler when he was in Germany and had heard news that a demon existed in that place. He then discovered that it was Kurt Wagner who was a mutant and not a demon. Logan then learned the lesson of faith.

X-Men Film Trilogy

Hugh Jackman as Wolverine

In X-Men 1, Logan was a man with no importance. He spent his days in a boxing ring, drinking, and getting into fights. When he first met Rogue in a bar in Northern Canada, he shunned her, and wanted her to go away from him, after he found her in the back of his trailer. He then lent a hand to her, and also told her his name was Wolverine and Logan. In a car accident, Wolverine was thrown out the window with a gash to the head. Rogue watched in amazement as his body regenerated the wound, Logan, who started to show his soft side, came to help her, but was ambushed by Sabretooth. The two fought, and X-Men members Storm and Cyclops arrived and saved Wolverine and Rogue, and took them to the Xavier Mansion, a haven for hated mutants. When Jean Grey began to examine him, he woke up, and stopped her, and took off.

He didn't get too far until he started hearing voices in his head, and eventually ended up meeting Charles Xavier, head of the Xavier Institute. He introduced him to Jean Grey, the woman who was operating on him, and the two that saved him, Storm and Cyclops, whom he didn't tend to care for. It made matters worse between them, when Logan was attracted to Jean Grey, Cyclops' girlfriend. Xavier told Logan of a friend of his who no longer saw eye to eye on matters, Magneto. He warned him of how dangerous he is, and that initially the X-Men believed that Magneto had him and Rogue attacked, because he wanted him, but when Logan went to find Rogue, who ran away, he told her all would be fine. The train they were on was stunned, and Magneto entered.

Logan who thought Magneto was after him, stood up and popped his claws out, Magneto v.i.a. use of Wolverine's adamantium, threw him out the other end of the train. Rogue was the one who was wanted. His master spy Mystique, took her with Magneto's brotherhood. There was a police stand-up, where Magneto threatened to kill a police officer. Xavier entered Sabretooth's mind, and grabbed Magneto by the throat, trying to get him to stop. Magneto knew why Sabretooth was doing this and continued his threat of killing the police officer.

Charles had to let go, and the brotherhood took off with Rogue as their hostage. The X-Men tried to save Rogue at an international meeting of world leaders in New York. Magneto who was going to kill off Rogue by using her youth for more strength, had her prepared for a machine that would put her youth into her body, Wolverine showed up to rescue her from the machine. Magneto manipulated Logan's metal until Cyclops blasted Magneto unconscious. Rogue appeared dead, Logan held her in a depressed state crying. Then he realized she is alive by him starting to die from contact with her skin. Wolverine later healed, and Xavier showed him a facility in Northern Alberta, near where the X-Men found him, that it might have had some answers to the mystery of his adamantium, and how he could not remember his life.

X-Men 2 revealed a man named William Stryker who was wanting to rid the world of mutants, created a facility years ago in Canada called, Weapon X, and he was the man who was the mastermind of Wolverine's adamantium. When Logan first encountered the facility, all he did was look at the building, and returned to back to the Institute. Logan was asked to look after the youngsters by Xavier. Logan began to have a conversation with Rogue's boyfriend Iceman or Bobby. The school was attacked by Stryker's men who took as many mutants as they could, already having Cyclops and Xavier. Wolverine, during all the time Stryker's men were in the school kidnapping the children, entered his famous and violent beserker rage, executing all the armed men he encountered, then when he met up with Stryker, William began to play mind games with him, knowing what he did to him with Logan having no clue. Bobby, Rogue, Pyro, and Logan escaped the building, heading up to Boston to meet up with Storm and Jean.

They stopped at Bobby's parents, and Bobby revealed he was a mutant. His younger brother, feeling low, called the police, reporting a case of mutants. Wolverine was shot in the head, and Pyro went on a rage that was stopped by Rogue. Storm and Jean took them away from the area, their blackbird was attacked by army shooters, and before they crashed, Magneto manipulated the plane's metal, and saved all of them. He told the X-men of the history of this mysterious Stryker. and that Wolverine was one of the mutants he had expieremented on in the past. When the X-Men, with Magneto and Mystique, attack Stryker, Wolverine entered the building, calling out to Stryker. He was captured, but Stryker noticed that he was not who he seemed to be. It was revealed that "Wolverine" was Mystique who shape-shifted back into herslef and took out all the guards.

The X-Men entered to save Xavier, and Cyclops, Magneto set Stryker's son in motion to kill all humans, and Wolverine wanted Stryker. When he met up with the man he was looking for, he entered into a deathmatch with Lady Deathsrike. Wolverine eventually won by stabbing a needle of wet metal into her and she fell into the tank. Wolverine met up with the rest of his team, and guided them out, however he was not done with Stryker. He stabbed him and left him to die in the cold, but Magneto tied him up later and had a flood take him and the Weapon X facility out for good. Wolverine had yet to suffer his greatest loss with the X-Men. The women he loved, Jean Grey, sacrificed herself by using her telekenisis to get the rest of the team out, leaving the rest of the team heartbroken in the pain of her death.

X-Men 3 revealed that Jean Grey survived the flood, since she was the host of the Phoenix. Logan, wanted to encourage her, and help her out, saw that she was acting oddly provoctively. When he showed her Scott's visor, she claimed not to know anything, he kept asking, and she eventually threw him against the wall, unleashing the Phoenix. Xavier arrived at Jean Grey's home where he first met her, with Storm and Wolverine. Magneto showed up with his new brotherhood. Jean's mind had had enough and the Phoenix came and killed Xavier, and she became a member of the brotherhood. Wolverine was sorely depressed by this, he tried to talk to her, but Magneto threw him miles away from her. Later, the brotherhood was ordered to kill the mutant who possessed the cure to take away all mutants powers. The child was saved, but Jean Grey released the most unstable violence the Phoenix ever had. Wolverine tried everything to save her, but Jean asked him to kill her. After saying he loved her, Logan stabbed her, and brought her peace, and broke his heart intensely.

X-Men Evolution
X-Men Evolution Wolverine's past was surrounded by mystery. He came to the Institute with the behest of Professor X. At first, the students feared him but he altered this impression by being a good X-Man. He gave fighting tactics to students and was a close friend to them as he raced with Cannonball, talked with Multiple Man and Berserker and was a very active friend to all of them though

he possessed a cold and aloof personality. His DNA was then used by Hydra to form another mutant called X-23. X-23 aimed on killing him but in later episodes, they worked together against HYDRA. As some people thought that X-23 was dead after the explosion. However, Logan sensed her with his tracking abilities proving that she was alive. Wolverine then commanded the X-Men and served as a temporary commander of one of the four teams sent around the world during the final battle with Apocalypse.

Wolverine and the X-Men
Wolverine would be the new animated series created in 2009. He left the X-Men when the Professor and Jean Grey mysteriously disappeared after an explosive attack on the mansion. While on the road he became involved with a human family who were subsequently arrested for aiding a mutant. With Beast's help he liberated the human family and began to reform the X-Men. The Professor telepathically contacted the X-Men from 20 years in the future and appointed Wolverine as the leader of the X-Men and gave him the task to prevent an apocalyptic future that was ruled by the Sentinels. His relationships with the other X-Men were not always straightforward.

He appeared oblivious to some sort of unrequited feelings from Rogue, and he distrusted her after she joined the Brotherhood. Emma Frost literally turned up on the doorstep demanding to join the X-Men. Although Wolverine clearly disliked her she was the only telepath around, and therefore the only one capable of using Cerebro. Wolverine continued to distrust Frost until she defeated the Shadow King in a battle on the Astral Plane and later helped patch together some of his memories surrounding Weapon X. Cyclops was angry with Wolverine before the mysterious blast, but continued to push Logan away. He was initially reticent to join the X-Men and was visibly shocked and hurt when the Professor chose Wolverine to lead

the team. Although Wolverine did not appear to have any memories of Sabretooth, it was established that he had a past with Nick Fury, S.H.I.E.L.D and the Incredible Hulk. He also appeared to have forgotten about a previous relationship with Mystique due to the Weapon X process erasing all of his previous memories. His efforts to understand who he used to be and why he gave up his past life brought him closer to Christie Nord, Maverick's daughter. Not all of Wolverine's relationships were strained.

He clearly enjoyed sneaking up on Beast when he was engrossed in research and respected Angel for helping to rebuild the mansion. He also had a strong sense of friendship with Nightcrawler and Storm. Wolverine clearly respected Professor Xavier, whom he turned to for counsel and help with his fragmented memories.To date, the entire series has not been broadcast in any country. As of the first dozen episodes, Wolverine continues to seek to bring the X-Men together in order to prevent a Days of Future Past style future from happening.

In this series Wolverine served as Second-In Command next to Iron Man.

Hulk Vs. Wolverine
Hulk vs. Wolverine was one of the greatest battles part of a two-part disc where Wolverine goes up against Hulk. The movie started out with Wolverine speaking. He said, " My name is Wolverine. I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do isn't very nice." At this point he woke up and he was beaten up pretty badly. He then got up and said, " What the hell happened." Then you hear The Hulk. He came and Wolverine moved out of the way and then said, "Oh yea !!!". The movie began with blue prints showing off the origin of where Bruce Banner was at the testing site and the test done on Wolverine showing his adamantium skeletons claws. During a flashback of what happened four hours before the encounter, Wolverine was sent by the Canadian authorities to stop a

creature from continuously destroying the towns. When he came back, the town was destroyed. He later found out that this creature was called by the Americans as the Hulk. Wolverine smelled the environment and saw a vision of Hulk destroying the town a while ago. Riding a chopper, he then went down in a forest and looked for the most credible clues. He had seen gigantic footsteps and as he went far, he saw the footprints getting smaller. It was because of Hulk transforming back into Bruce. He found Bruce Banner not knowing that it was what he was looking for. He talked to him and asked if he had seen a monster. Wolverine then smelled toxic on him and started torturing him. With intense fear, Bruce had turned into Hulk and punched Logan far away. Wolverine then woke up and realized what had happened. The Hulk then reappeared and fought him. He also encountered the Weapon X after they took both Logan and Hulk to their facility and led to their fight. Logan and Hulk then finished their fight after the encounter with Weapon X.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

In the movie that reveals the past of Wolverine, Hugh Jackman once again played the feral mutant, as it was revealed in his years as a child, his father was killed at his father's mansion. This was when he realized his mutant powers by having bone claws extruding from his hands, and killed his father's murderer, who was actually his real father. His friend Victor Creed took him, and as brothers they ran off and joined in many wars. There, Victor loved the fact of killing many, which Logan was tired of. Creed once killed an officer, and he and Logan were tried for a 17-hour execution. They survived, and a man named William Stryker, took them both, and formed a team called Team X. Stryker took his army to Africa, where a man was held as a hostage, Creed killed him, the other captured villagers tried to stand up for themselves, and the rest of the team began to kill them all, until Logan stopped it. He proclaimed he had enough, and left.

Years later he formed a romantic relationship with a beautiful school teacher named Kayla. When she encountered Sabretooth, Logan found her in the forest appearing dead. In a rage he looked for Victor and tracked him down in a bar. A bitter fight ensued however Sabretooth easily defeated him, and stomped on his bone claws, crushing them. Stryker found him in the hospital, when Logan saw him, he grabbed him by the throat claiming he knew about Victor killing the rest of Team X. Stryker said he had a special way of Logan killing Victor, it would make him indestructible. Logan agreed and later on in an unmarked facility, Logan was strapped to a tank being prepared for his skeleton to be bonded to a metal called adamantium. The procedure began and it appeared that Logan may be dead. When his heightened mutant power sense of hearing heard that they realized his heart was beating, and to erase his memory, Logan emerged from the tank, now with adamantium claws and in beserker rage, he ran out of the facility, killing two guards in the process.

He was found by an elderly couple who helped him out, and gave him clothes and food to eat. When talking with the man, he told him not to make the wrong choice. But just then, he and his wife were shot and killed by Agent Zero, ordered to kill Logan. There was a riveting chase capped off by Wolverine, taking out an army car, and him cutting the helicopter blades off. He then took Zero's phone line, and told Stryker that he was going to kill Victor, the he was going to kill Stryker. Then he set fire to the copter, causing it to explode- killing Zero. He met up with Wraith, showing him what Stryker did to his bones, and trying to get information about a second island. Fred Dukes a.k.a. the Blob spit it out, and told him about the only mutant to escape from the island. In New Orleans he met the mutant. His name was Gambit. A card dealing trickster with kinetic energy of playing cards. When talking to Gambit, about Stryker's island, the set a nerve in him, and using his kinetic control of cards, he shot them at Logan, blowing him out the back wall, where he saw Wraith had just been murdered by none other then Victor. The two shortly engaged, with this one being different. Logan, now with adamantium, seemed to have the upper edge on Creed, until Gambit arrived with his staff, sending kinetic energy into the ground, sending them both flying apart from each other.

When Victor saw Gambit, he began to run away, when Logan tried to catch up, Gambit then began a fight with him that ended with Wolverine cutting down the stairs, and he then got Gambit to fly him to the island where it was revealed that Kayla survived the initial attack, and Sabretooth wanted an adamantium procedure. This did not go the way Victor intended (as Victor could not take the procedure) and started to choke Kayla, and Wolverine arrived just in time before she was killed, and threw Victor down to a lower level. Wolverine knocked out Victor so as to not become like him, enjoying killing. Wade Wilson was alive, only to be Stryker's mutant murdering puppet, Weapon XI, the Dead Pool. The two fight and Logan saw that his DNA had been used for him to have an accelerated healing factor better than his. Later Wolverine, found Deadpool at the top of a water tower. The two fight, again, and Deadpool stabbed Logan twice in the back pinning him down for decapitation. Victor stopped him since he believed he was the only one worthy of killing Logan together they defeated Wilson, and Logan decapitated him. Later, Logan found Kayla, and Stryker shot Wolverine in the back with adamantium bullets, and Kayla was struck too. Logan was shot twice in the head. Kayla used her mutant power of perception to make him walk away. Wolverine woke up and could not remember anything, he then walked away, on his own journey.
