Wolverine was born in Alberta, Canada in the late 19 century. His birth name James Hewlett.
After the deaths of his parents, he found work in a mining colony in British Columbia and took the name “Logan”.
As he grew to manhood, Logan struggled with his feral instincts. He spent some time in the wilderness living with wolf pack before returning to civilisation.
Upon reaching adulthood. Logan’s mutant healing factor slowed his ageing. He battled in both world wars and many other conflicts. He married Itsu, a Japanese woman, but she was murdered.
Logan was kidnapped by the Weapon X program and had adamantium, a near-indestructible metal, bonded to his skeleton. Logan’s memories were damaged for decades, and he became prone to fits of insane rage. He was used as an assassin against his will but eventually broke free of the conditioning.
Logan joined the Canadian Secret Service and worked as an agent for many years. Charles Xavier then recruited him for the X-Men.
Wolverine has recently had all his memories returned to him, and has realised that a mysterious figure has been manipulating him for most of his life: a being known only as “Romulus”. Wolverine has also discovered that he has a son by Itsu, called Daken. Like Wolverine, Daken is a mutant with a healing factor and claws. However, Daken blames Wolverine for his mother’s death and wishes to kill him.
Wolverine is searching for a way to help Daken overcome Romulus’s influence …
Deadpool’s recounting of his background is vague and contradictory – even his real name is a matter of debate. It is generally believed that he is Wade Wilson, a Canadian.
He became a successful mercenary but contracted terminal cancer. Seeking a cur, Wade signed up to the Weapon X program and had an artificial healing factor implanted. When this appeared to fail, he was thrown into prison for the Weapon X rejects known as the “Deadpool”.
Wade blasted his way out and adopted Deadpool as his new name. He discovered that the healing factor had in fact been successful, although it caused tremendous scarring all over his body.
Deadpool resumed his mercenary career. His healing factor allowed him to take far greater risks and earn him higher status amongst his peers.
Deadpool’s friends are few. His most loyal one is Weasel, a technical genius with few moral standards. He formed an alliance with Cable, but the two men often clashed. Deadpool has also recently acquired a new sidekick: a cowardly Hydra agent called Bob.
Deadpool’s fighting skills are world-class, but his abrasive manner, non-stop verbosity and frequent bizarre behaviour mean that he is rarely taken seriously.
He would like to become a genuine hero, but faces a constant internal struggle with his desire for material wealth, public acclaim and female companionship.
He is currently running the mercenary company Agency X while its owner Alex Hayden seeks to overcome a bout of extreme obesity …
