What happens to the uniform?

I understand that she's a metamorph, but I'm curious about that fact that her uniform just seems to disappear and reappear. Has this every been explained? Or is it one of those things that just depends on the artist?

The age old answer for everything, although in the new X-force doesnt she just still have it? I think it depends on the artist more than anything
