If Wither's touch destroys all organic matter, why doesn't he starve to death? It has been shown that a mutation can endanger the person's life, but I was just wondering why this was never mentioned.
Wither
Character » Wither appears in 246 issues.
Wither was an X-Men student with the ability to break down organic matter just by touching it. Later turned him into a vampire and killed in Necrosha. Recently ressurrected on Krakoa.
Wither's Power Problem

wouldn't it dissolve on his tongue?
Boken says:
"true, what about a feeding tube"
well we don't know whether it's skin contact or if it touches any part of his body

all food is organic, meaning it once was living. Unless he eats rocks
Charmcaster says:
"Cos he can't kill something that's already dead...."
He's not killing it, it just decays when he touches it.

Oh
Slinger says:
"How fast does his power work? How does his power work? Maybe he absorbs nutrients by "withering" things. Maybe he is forced to only eat rotten things."
It works pretty instantly. and either turns things to dust or leaving just skeleton and skin behind.

I nominate Shaper
Any carbon based matter is classified organic. And if food dissolves in his mouth that is just a sped up process of what eating and digestion does anyway soo.....
If he can't kiss (I don't know, can he?), he probably can't eat, or he could try to eat but all he'd get is ash for his trouble.
Unless it is just his outer skin that secrets/absorbs whatever it is that causes his withering touch...
I've had to deal with similar questions over my favorite mutant character and I've come to the conclusion that if Marvel doesn't mention something, assume the mutant has an alternative biological means of getting energy to live or, more simply, doesn't have to eat, as a side effect of his/her mutation.
Side Note: I just found out about Wither today and he sounds pretty dang cool. "Cool" as in... I tend to go for the tragic mutant stories. ;)
Maybe as he rots living things he absorbs energy from it similar to Selene. Any part of his body that touches organic matter will disintegrate that matter. He has to wear clothes that are totally synthetic. I don't think it has shown him eating. Seeing that he has been transformed into a vampire type creature some things might have changed. The only reason he can kiss Selene is that she has a power that is so similar they probably are immune to each others power.
