Witchblade
Character » Witchblade appears in 687 issues.
The Witchblade is the offspring of the primal forces of the universe, The Darkness and The Angelus. It usually takes the form of a complex metal gauntlet. Since it is male in nature, it seeks out female hosts. The Witchblade is semi-organic and reacts supernaturally to threats. It is able to grant its host a variety of weapons and can also heal the wearer.

i loved Top Cow back in the days, and only started reading it again about 4 months ago. Marz is doing a phenomenal job with his Top Cow books and Artifacts is no exception. Now if we could only get him to bring back a rebooted Cyberforce, I'd be a happy geek! Nice job on the review Sarah.

" never got into Top Cow... but this looks like something of interest... maybe I will give it a look would I need to backtrack on anything just to get me up to speed? "Not really you should start with issues 0 there they will explain to you what are the artifacts and who wields them, basically it will fill you in on everything you need to know until issue 1.
@Babs: Waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy back when Wizard Magazine was first coming out, they ran an interview that had to do with the Top Cow characters, and the interviewee (Silvestri, IIRC) said that the Witchblade, Darkness, et. al. were all different parts of God (i.e. one part would be the nervous system, another part the circulatory system, etc.). That interview is the only time I have ever heard that mentioned, concerning the TC artifacts, so I'm curious to see if that's where Artifacts goes with this storyline.
Cool that you reviewed this Babs. This title need some more attention. It's shaping up to be a very exciting story.
My comic book store apparently didn't order any copies because people don't like Top Cow... I haven't found any since!
I want to read this series a lot and Sara's review and excitement for it means it's good!
Props to THE ACTUAL ARTIST Brousard a true upcoming talent.. hopefully a rising talent in the industry that we'll see more of on other projects

Witchblade and Darkness were new-ish at the time (I think they had just revealed the "Excalibur" artifact). Since it was Silvestri who explained them that way, I'd say it's more that he has further developed them since then, and I'm not really surprised. Trying to reconcile the artifacts as pieces of God is a writing nightmare - any interpretation he could come up with would fail, because God is Someone that just about everybody has an opinion on (good or bad), and some simply aren't going to be willing to flex for his interpretation, even though it's his story. Coming up with something "more complex" (is that possible?) is, in a sense, simpler to deal with. lol
