Plot Summary

Majestic's Hawaiian utopia is everything he advertised it to be and more! Yet there's something sinister just beneath the surface that the team can't pin down. Also, a former team member returns...but on whose side?

And in a special backup, Christos Gage and Shawn Moll (She-Hulk) bring back the group everybody's been waiting for – Team Seven!

As Spartan and Majestic fly over the ruins of , Majestic shares with Spartan that The High is taking survivors into . When Spartan reminds Majestic that The High was responsible for the current state of the world, Majestic tells him that it was clones of The High, not the real one. But before he can continue, he senses that the other Wildcats have found Savant (as seen at end of last issue). Spartans then proceeds to punch Majestic into a building in order to buy some time for the other Wildcats.

Meanwhile at the , Ladytron is in the nursery surrounded by screaming kids. She's on her cell phone talking to her new robot boyfriend (see Wildcats: World's End #8). One of the kids tells her that there are monsters at the window. When she investigates, a group of Daemonites crash through the window and begin to attack.

Back in , Zealot rushes to free Savant, for she knows Majestic has been altered to their plan. She questions Savant as to why Majestic captured her. Savant says it was for breeding, but it was through test tubes and not through sexual means. Savants says that after she found out the truth about Majestic and Zealot being her true parents, she went to stay with him at his base. But she noticed a change in him and despite having so much up against him at the time, she knew there was more to it and believes there's something other than Armageddon that has driven him mad.

Spartan and Majestic continue their battle above . In the middle of the battle, Spartan self-destructs in an attempt to take out Majestic.

Grifter, Voodoo, and Nemesis join up with Zealot and Savant as Majestic's forces chase after them. Savant uses her tech to teleport them to M.I.R.V. where they find Spartan has downloaded into a new body. But he says that they must hurry because his self-destruct move won't hold Majestic for long.

No sooner does he say this does Majestic come barreling into Maul. Spartan tries to distract Majestic so Maul and the others can escape but Majestic pulls the technology from Spartan's chest that will allow him to download into another body. Warblade jumps in to to help Spartan but Majestic grabs Warblade, contorts his body into a ball of blade mass, and hurls the mass at M.I.R.V.

As the Wildcats stand stunned at Majestic's might, Ladytron radios in to them. The is being swarmed by thousands of Daemonites.

"Team 7: Reunion-Chapter 1"
In Amarillo, Texas a battle is being waged between some remnants of Internal Operations and John Lynch, Deathblow, Dane, Marc Slayton, Christie Blaze, and Grifter, otherwise known as Team 7!

After the team dispatches of the I.O. force, Lynch prepares to explain why he's brought them all back together. Before Lynch begins explaining everything, Grifter tells Slayton that his daughter Jodi is with the Wildcats. Slayton thanks Grifter for taking care of her. Lynch tells all of them not to tell their teams about this meeting until he says they can. Lynch then proceeds to tell them about and how she is the one who can fix the world. Dane recognizes her from when she teleported him to the future and showed him Armageddon (see Wetworks: Armageddon). Lynch tells them that before Void can do anything for the world she must be freed from the one who is controlling her…Tao.

    (No Spoilers)

Wow! What a fantastic issue by Christos Gage and Neil Googe. I knew when reading issue 9 that it was all setup for bigger things, and they deliver in this issue. I love that by the end of the first page, Majestic and Spartan are already fighting. And it is a good old-fashioned beat-down (although Spartan takes most of it). It reminded me of something about the Wildcats that was always kind of bittersweet about the team. Compared to others in the Wildstorm U such as Majesitc and The Authority, the Wildcats are just not that powerful. Without Void, they are greatly depowered. Spartan is basically just a robot, Grifter’s got guns, Nemesis and Zealot (and even Warblade) have their blades and fighting skills, Ladytron is like Spartan and Grifter rolled into one, Jodi has her super-speed and fighting skills, and Maul has his physical strength. The only Wildcat who seems to have the kind of power that’s needed to stand up to some of the more powerful characters is Voodoo (as seen by her ‘zombie’ trick in issue 7). But even she is still discovering things about her powers. It is bittersweet because I love the characters but one wrong move and they’re toast (as with what happened to Grifter at the end of Captain Atom: Armageddon).

The Wildcats strength seems to be when they do work together and also when they use Kherubim technology to its full potential. Maybe it’s this underdog status that draws me to these characters because I so want to see them bring down someone as powerful as Majestic. And it may still happen, just not in this issue. No, in this issue, Majestic stays true to Jim Lee’s original intent when he created the character: to create a Superman-type character that did not hold back when using his powers. As soon as the Wildcats engage Majestic in this issue I was actually afraid that one of them might die. That is a testament to Gage’s writing because he accurately portrays the superior power that is Majestic. And Googe gets a chance to draw some great scenes which illustrate Majestic’s might.

Earlier this year at one of the conventions, Christos Gage mentioned that by around issue 12, things go from bad to worse for the Wildcats. Well, we’re definitely seeing the beginnings of that here.

“Team 7: Reunion” backup story. I really liked this one not just for the nostalgia of seeing Team 7 together again but also because I felt like I got a lot in these 4 pages. Gage does a great job of answering little hints that were placed in the various Wildstorm titles as to this meeting with the surviving Team 7 members. I’m a little leery at some of the hints that are dropped about how World’s End can be ‘fixed’ during the course of this backstory. But I’m trusting the creative teams that it won’t be that easy and thankfully we’ve already been assured by editor Ben Abernathy that all this will NOT lead to another reboot. So it’ll be interesting to see where all this leads to with the as yet unnamed “big event” planned for the Wildstorm U in December.

The Wildcats make their move in Majestic's new Khera/Earth nation of Hawaii, while Hadrian and Majestic are touring the remains of Japan and informs Hadrian about the High taking people to Finland (as seen in Stormwatch: PED) Back in Hawaii Zealot springs Majestic's prisoner, while Hadrian tries to stall Majestic for as long as he can. We get hints to Majestic's drastic personality change that may tie back to the Tao back-up story. The ‘Cats try to escape from Hawaii and Majestic's wrath, while Defile makes his move back in LA.

Gage packs this issue with as much action as possible with a dash of drama and smattering of Ladytron humor thrown in for good measure. This issue brings the Wildcats/Majestic dynamic to ahead while Gage lays down some groundwork as to why Majestic is acting the way he has been, also setting up for Defiles move against the ‘Cats. This issue moves at fast pace giving the characters and situation a sense of urgency. Googe has been some doing some career best work on this title and this issue is no exception, his layouts complement the story that Gage is trying to tell by giving the characters expressive faces to convey the characters emotional state and also give characters have fluid motion during the action that makes the static panels leap off the page.
