Selenites were the semi-insectoid inhabitants of the Moon encountered by British explorers Professor Cavor and his companion Mr. Bedford when they visited the Moon in the late 19th century. Cavor named them were named after the Greek moon goddess Selene; what name they have, if any, in their own language is unknown.

The Selenites first appeared in H.G. Well's 1901 novel The First Men in the Moon. Since then they have been depicted in the various movie, TV films and comic adaptations of the novel. They also appeared in Scarlet Traces: The Great Game, where a map of the solar system depicted them amongst the various sentient species inhabiting the planets orbiting Sol.
