I collected comic books for about 15 years. When I sold them all off a decade or so ago, I had between 4 and 5 thousand of them. The last comic book that I ever read was a copy of the trade paperback of the Watchmen that I bought about 15 years too late. Since I read it, I have not cracked open a comic book since. Was the Watchmen series the pinnacle of comic books or is there anything else out there that much worth reading to re-enter the comic book world?
I Read The Watchmen and Then Could Read No More
Watchmen is a great book but it is no Ballad of Halo Jones, another Moore book by the way. That said I think Judge Dredd: America is one of the best comic stories told.
uhhhhh how about the Walking Dead.....it won an award you know? for what you say? the Best Comic Ever award.....that's right....consider your mind blown

@danhimself said:What's so great about it? I'm seeing that people talk about it a lot, but I never cared to check it out. Isn't it just one more of these Zombie-stories? I was reading a lot about the "Crossed" stuff, aswell "Night of the Living Dead" and so ...uhhhhh how about the Walking Dead.....it won an award you know? for what you say? the Best Comic Ever award.....that's right....consider your mind blown
definitely not another zombie storie......consider the zombies as more of a background than a character....sure they're a constant threat to the survivors but most of the time the biggest threat is the other survivors....it's basically about a guy doing whatever he can to keep his family safe....and what happens to the people out there who are just plain sickos but the threat of law enforcement keeps them in check when there is no government anymore....that guy down the street that always says nice things to you is suddenly free to act on his darkest thoughts and becomes a homicidal maniac that you have to deal with while at the same time trying to avoid getting eaten by your other neighbors
I actually do a horrible job of explaining it....just take my word and go pick up the first 2 or 3 trades and read them...trust me...you'll thank me later
Morrison's Doom Patrol
Y: the Last Man
Morrison's Batman
Kingdom Come
All extremely intelligent, and well crafted and executed comics.

Saga of the Swamp Thing was really good. Grant Morrison's Doom Patrol good too. I second or third Kingdom Come. Maus was amazing. All-Star Superman. Chew. The Walking Dead. Invincible. There is a lot of really good stuff out there. You just have to look. Batman Hush was also really good. The Long Halloween. V for Vendetta etc.

It's a matter of opinion, but it could well be the pinnacle.

But that would deepend in your tastes, What would you like to read? Any feeling that you expect while reading? Is there a any cathegory you love to read about?
Almost anything that is able to make me feel alive, Watchmen is too depresive for me, is good, but is NOTHING to what I would love to read in a comicbook, what I read in Watchmen is a good story with assholes as main characters, I love to read about heroes, idols, Overmen, Silver Surfer: Requiem is a good example to what I would like to read in a comicbook...
I was like that. 52 was my favorite, and I didn't think anything would top that. I did compare other stories with it, and others didn't match.once you establish something as your favorite, I think it's pretty rare that anything changes that...
Then... then came Sandman.

It was all just a dream.

A lot of people are talking about Sandman ... What's happening there which makes it special? Can someone describe it to me in 2-3 sentences? Why should someone start reading Sandman?
Neil. Gaiman. Vertigo.

- Strong continuity (almost every character is significant, no matter how small they are)
- Great characters.
There ya go. I should also add that it generally has decent art, which is more than I can say for other comics out there.
@JediXMan: I will but should I still start with the first issue of Sandman, finish it and then go over to Death and Endless Nights? Or was something else published before?Read the entire Sandman series first. Issues 1 through 75. I suggest hunting down the Absolute Edition; there are four. Each edition has around 20 issues. While some arcs can be read independently, I still say that going in order of 1 through 75 is best. Then you can read Death and Endless Nights. The order of Death and Endless Nights doesn't really matter. They're both completely separate. Dream barely appears in either as it is.
Check your library. You never know.

I was going to quote FTBB, but I HAD to quote Dan. LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.
I'd like to add The return of the Dark Knight and the sequel as well as Wanted, which is a personal favourite of mine.
You might want to check out other Vertigo books that have the same Vibe, like some Swamp Thing.
Maybe just maybe, Hellblazer.
