The first time i read this graphic novel, it is safe to say i was very depressed for a good chunk of time afterwards. The darkness and reality of it make it not only very ealistic but a great commentary on human nature. On he surface, it is truly an entertaining graphic novel that fulfills everyones deepest desire. Hey, who wouldnt want to dress up like a superhero and fight bad guys? It centers around the origional crime fighting team, the minutemen and how they rise and fall from the public eye paving the way for the newly formed minutemen. The comic has a different feel than other graphic novels in that it doesnt use the typical RBG color scheme instead it uses the purples oranges and teals all of those secondary colors that look so nice. The plot line is very effective and at times delves into what is humanity which i believe is what makes this so great. It in some ways resembles the marvel civil war series as well as neil Gaimans neverwhere and sandman series. The darker more psychological aspects ring true throughout as we follow rorshach who is criminally insane as well as incredibly intelligent and quick thinking and in the commedian who is cruel and violent for, what seems to the reader, useless reasons. However it all ties together in the end as you find out that the darkest characters are in fact the most human. Anyways, enough babbling, it was an incredibly well developed storyline and had very well developed characters which spell greatness for any genrea of media.
The movie visually was fantastic let me start off by saying this. The muic choice and soundtrack which was great at times seemed completley wrong for parts of the movie, I.e. certain intimate scenes (read the novel). The change at the end was drastic, but it worked better cinematically and appealed to a larger audience i suppose, which doesnt make it right but its hollywoods job to sell, not to make us devoted comic nerds happy haha. Either way it really is a must see. The added violence was only a problem in some bits because it made some of the tougher characters more easily defined, more hateable like the comedian. I feel like thye made his character much muc darker in the film which was a plus and a minus. We didnt as viewers feel the same emotional attatchment to him in the film as in the comic wich took away from the entire message, that life is a joke and hes the only one who really knows whats going on and for the most part, understands humanity. The beginning also posed some problems for those who hadnt read the comic... It was an amazing sequence if you knew what was going on though. It did a very good job of summing up who the minutemen were wlthough they failed to even really mentin hooded justices name when i felt like they shouldve because he was the first. Oh well, all over all i give it a five out of five it was a stunning piece of cinema that should be appreciated for more than it seems. Its deeper than it looks on the surface and people need to take time to realize that.

im not usually in to comics but this comic was kinda kool to read. i wasnt expecting it to end the way it did so that part blow me away. During reading this i strated to focus on the main charater which is rorschach the way how he would try and get to the truth while everyone else wouldnt pay him any mind and they felt that the comidian deserved wat he got. maybe if laurie and dan and dr manhattan would have listenin 2 him from earlier maybe veidt wouldnt have gotten away with what her has done. But overall it was a great comic but to read and once u read part u just wanna keep reading in order to find out whats going to happen in the end.

Finally I have finished this Watchmen novel that took me an week to finished. I could of finished it quicker if I put more time into it but I decided to read like one or two to three chapters an day.
Now about the novel, it is about an group; of superheroes who are solving the murder of one of their fellow teammates and they are having an hard time and the world is starting to fall apart when world war three is about too hit. It shows the dark side of life and how cruel the world can be. There is a lot of blood, killing, violence, and other stuff like that some people would not approve.
About the charcters. My favorite might be Rorscrach because he is the most different out of the super heroes. Why?..Because he has done some violent stuff to criminals to get answers to figure out about the mess that was going on and he hates it when he sees someone getting hurt for no reason. For example, when Rorscrach in prison and talking to Dr. Malcom, he told him about an case in 1975 or around that. It starts when Rorscrach was looking for this girl that was kiddnapped, he finds out that the kiddnapper fed her to two german shepards. When he finds out about that, he kills the two dogs and when the kiddnapper gets home, he opens an door and finds his two dogs dead. Then Rorschrach puts handcuffs on the guy and sets his house on fire and leaves him to burn. Another one is when he broke an guys finger when he wanted information about Comedians death. Rorschrach is also clever when an guy is about to throw an glass at him, Rorschrach squezzes the guys hands to the glass and the pieces of glass are all over the guys hands and he bleeds. And i didnt get the part in the end when Dr. Mannhattan did something to Rorscrach. Did Mannhattan kill him or just teleported him to Niteowls shi or at New York? Well besides that, those were some of the reasons why Rorschrach is my favorite charcter in this novel.
As for Dr. Mannahttan, he is the most different out of everyone in the novel because he is the only one with powers. He has powers that are godlike. He is immortal, can see threw the future, can increase his size, and other amazing powers. Its an shame that he cant find no piece on earth with the humans. Cant find an love because he doesnt age like when he had an girlfriend before he met Silk Spectre and the girlfriend was getting old so he decides to date Spectre and the girlfriend leaves him.
Niteowl is like the brains of the team with all that high tech gear like that ship and those goggles. He falls in love with Silk Spectre in the end of the novel and has an relationship with her.
Silk Spectre has dated like two people in the novel. Dr. Mannhattan and Niteowl. She had an mom who got raped by the Comedian for whatever reason. And the wierd thing is, Silk Spectre father is the Comedian which I dont think they have nothing in common. But she is kinda hot in the movie that I'm dying to see.
As for Ozymandia, it turns out to be that he is behind the murder of the Comedian and the exile of Dr. Mannhattan. He did all this so he can kill everyone in New York city to prevent war world three from happening which it work but I find an little strange. I dont get when an guy who shoots an lady that was with Andrian and beats him and asking questions like who sent him and all that, then the killer kills himself by eating poison. Who sent the killer after Andrian?
I thought the novel was pretty good even though it had parts that are kinda wierd to me. But I still give this novel an 5 out of 5. I cant wait untill i see the movie.

I would like to start off by saying that I am DEFINITELY going to see this movie.
Now, on to my review.
This graphic novel truly impressed me, with everything from the creativity of Rorshach's uncompromising good guy-bad guy character to the insane plot twists, down to the graphic design. The 3x3 frame setup was visually pleasing, incredibly efficient, and a good, consistent way to real the comic.
I think the character development for this graphic novel is definitely one of the most well thought out of any comic series I've had the opportunity to lay hands on. The characters were diverse, from the retired devotee to the neglected love of the true superhuman, to the insane do-good that Rorshach is. This novel showed the brutal, selfish side of every character, and it also showed the comic genius and political cynicism of the time in which is was written.
I give this graphic novel a 5 stars, plus more if I could.
A must read for any lover of war, cynicism, and just plain, dirty old Spirit time crime dimes.

I picked this up around August or September of last year, after reading the first volume of Sandman, and V for Vendetta. I had been going through essentials my friends told me to knock out as I got back into comics; Sandman was suggested by nearly everyone I knew, and V for Vendetta was something I meant to read for a while.
I've since recommended it to just about everyone I've known who is even remotely interested in comics, as would almost any comic fan.
Watchmen turned the superhero genre on its ear. There is no good guy, just people who want to make the world a better place with plenty of problems, who usually view the world in shades of gray. It has mystery, suspense, "I can't believe that happened!" shockers, and a colorful cast of characters. It has heroes you can relate to as much as any supporting, non-spandex wearing character you meet on the street.
Speaking as a now young adult, I never had a chance to read this or Sandman when I was into comics 7 years ago; these two series single handedly introduced me to mature and complex story elements, plots, and characterization. If you haven't bought into all the hype at your local bookstore or comic shop, now is a good time.

Watchmen is the greatest graphic novel of all time. A world where heroes are for the most part arn't superhuman. Heroes are practically not heroes. Rorshach is an antihero. The Comedian is disgustingly vile. Dr. Manhatten dosn't see need for human existance. Adrian is to liberal to be a real hero. Silk Spectre has a mean attitude and has a bad smoking habit. Nite-Owl quit his job of being a superhero pretty quick;showing little willpower. Watchmen is fantastic, though there arn't really any villians but a friend of mine states and I agree that ' In Watchmen ,society's the villian.' Wow ,thats deep but extraordinarily true. I would advise any viewer of proper age to read this comic. Rorshach is Watchmen's most interesting character in the novel. He has a grim past to grow up to an grim end. His death involves him being blasted to nothing by Dr.Manhatten. His hat remains in his ashes. Wathmen is purely epic!
