razzatazz's Warlord of Mars: Dejah Thoris #16 review

    Wake up

It is a beautiful cover (the vista of Dejah standing over top a city) which is too bad because it has nothing to do with the interior.  Dejah has made her way to the north and is still deciding whether she should live or die after her supposed betrayal.  Once there she meets a hunter from a species long thought exterminated.  The interaction between the two though is not what she assumes at the beginning and actually gets a little S&M like.  I did like how Dejah comes to escape and her ensuing dash for freedom, but the overall effect just isn't quite there as it has been elsewhere in the series (especially compared to the second story arc which was also polar based but was a lot more fun.)  One shots are more accessible to a first time reader but story arcs give more depth to the characters.  It is unfortunate though for the longtime reader of this series that this is a one-shot because maybe if drawn out a little it would seem less easy of a story, but as it is, it stands with the lesser entries in this series to this point.
