    The story begins in France during the First World War when a young British soldier destroys a German gas detachment, thus helping save the village of Loselle.Twenty-five years later the village is occupied by the Germans. The German CO asks the mayor about the statue of the unknown Tommy in the square, learning how it came to be erected.
