Better Than Issue #4
This story picks up a bit. If you guys have been reading my reviews, you should know that I've been worried that this series is "dragging on" which litterally means two things. Firstly, I thought that this story was a little too long. Secondly, I thought that it seemed like Greg Pak was just making up this story as he went along, with no planning ahead of time. It honestly seemed like that and frankly, I still question if that was the case. However, it goes without saying that this issue was better than the last and I enjoyed it.
This whole arc thus far has taken place in the same location with the same characters on the same mission. So you can see why I think this might be a little slow. It was cool for a couple of issues but after a while I just wanted the story to have more depth to it.
Here is the conclusion of the first arc and the ending sets up what seems like the path for the rest of the series. Now we have our cast of heroes collected and they have a mission. Seems like a story to me! So yeah, it ends on a good note.
The battle in this issue was cool. War Machine did something smart and sort of tried to sacrifice him to save the people. It was a cool idea but I wish it was better explained. Stupid people like me don't really understand all of these concepts. I don't know how the Ultimo virus works, I don't know how War Machine works. I don't know any of this. All I got is that somehow, War Machine "absorbed" the virus by growing metal tenticles and throwing people. The virus also completely healed him.
See what I mean? People like me have no idea what's going on.
But that's not much of a big deal. As long as I know that it does work, I guess I don't care too much "how" it works. Anyway, the solution was sort of weird but it built on the themes of the book so far, which are War Machine's humanity, War Machine's violence, and War Machine's need to protect everybody.
Sweet.
Art was good. The artist, Leonardo Manco, goes up and down. Sometimes he has good days and sometimes he has bad days. This was a good day. He had lots of pretty soldiers to draw and he drew them well. I commend him.
Overall, here is my number rating...
Story - 7.5 or 8 out of 10
Art - 8 out of 10
