The lethality of that piece is now assured.
The lethality of that piece is now assured.

It looks like a self-administered curved bullet to the temple really is enough to keep Fox down.

According to New York Magazine, Universal Studios has canceled its plans for a sequel to WANTED now that star Angelina Jolie has walked away from it. The project was to be a new story continuing the movie's plot, not a further adaptation of the comic. Instead of WANTED 2, Jolie will be acting in GRAVITY for Warner Bros, a thriller about the last survivor of a space mission. The project, to be helmed by CHILDREN OF MEN director Alfonso Cuaron, would be a mostly one-man show like Tom Hanks' turn in CAST AWAY, as Jolie would spend most of her time on screen alone.

We reported a few weeks ago that talks about a sequel to Top Cow comic were still going on, according to Mark Millar. The issue, according to him, was getting the cast and crew to agree on a script that would be up to the quality level of the first movie, as nobody wanted to “just half-ass it and walk away with a paycheck.”

    No Caption Provided

Fans have been puzzled about how Jolie could possible return to the movie, as her character, Fox,  was killed in the climax of ’08 actioner. I didn’t see any issue myself - - they could easily pull some explanation out that she dipped in the Fraternity’s healing wax pools - - but it’s clear now that she was the real star of the movie.  Without her, you're not going to see a sequel. Now, it seems that after KICK-ASS, the first Millar-based movie audiences are likely to see is the Scottish writer’s secret super hero movie.

Gotta say, this sounded like a straight-to-dvd film from the get-go.

Thank you. Just because a movie is slick and does well doesn't mean that the hollywood vampires need to suck more money out of the concept by making a sequel (especially when it really doesn't call for one).

I saw the movie and then read the trade. I'm not sure I would have gone to see it if it starred Eminem. I was disappointed by the direction the story took toward the end. I'm not much of an Angelina Jolie fan - anymore. She's just become really good looking fingernails on a chalk board. She actually looked constipated in the movie. I could have seen Halle Berry or maybe the actress that played Uhura (she's becoming quite the big name herself with all the big movies she's in like Avatar and The Losers!)

I think it's a sorry shame that a sequel is cancelled because of Angelina Jolie. I liked James McAvoy...dude swings a mean keyboard!

That movie Gravity sounds a hell of a lot like the movie Moon, awsome movie, but it only came out last year why make something so similar!
p.s I agree Wanted, was good but doesn't call for a sequel, this is good news!

Good ... I don't see how she could return.
Dipping into that pool can't restore death can it?

I hate sequels with stupid, huge plot-holes. They should have just added a different female actress.

I guess nobody wants Wanted? And I was so looking forward to seeing the film adaptation of that villain made of poop.

I'm not Jolie's biggest fan. And any more she's in, I have a tough time with even if I enjoy the rest of the cast or even the story. I just can't get passed her.

-____- Of course she was the lead! Who the heck is that kid that co-stetred her? I don't know to this day!

The real stars in that movie were Angelina and Morgan Freeman; the rest were just a bunch of clingers..

Although the kid wasn't bad, I enjoyed his whining XD

The first Wanted movie, on its own, wasn't bad...
It was only sub-par in comparison to the comic, which was much cooler.
Wouldn't have minded a second movie if they had tried to incorporate the original superhero element of the actual story.

I loved the book.  I loved the movie.  That's because I don't care if the movie is exactly the same as the book.  I don't have a stick stuck up my ass about that kind of thing like so many other people do.

If the movie at least keeps the aesthetic of the book (Wanted was about a loser turned badass...the movie was about a loser turned badass...and both were spewing with attitude), then I'm good.  The mediums of comics and movies are completely different, and neither harshes the other in any way.  They are separate entities.

I really wish that, one day, people would stop boo-hooing so much about stupid crap like "it was nothing like the book".  No, it wasn't...and it was still good.  Pull the twig out, folks, and learn to enjoy a movie rather than putting on your Defend-O-Goggles because it's not exactly like the text.

Remember what happened when someone DID stick to the text *cough*WATCHMEN*cough*?  Movie was great, but BOOOORING!  Wait, I'm sure that's all because there was no giant squid, right?

Oh thank God!  If the first Wanted wasn't enough of a ass-raping, the sequel would've definitely made me never go see another Millar based movie... EVER.  I'm hoping that Kick-Ass is his apology to us readers for letting the studios have their way with his "other" book.
