Vulcan
Vulcan is a comic book character that first appeared in X-Men: Deadly Genesis #1
He is the forgotten 3rd Summers brother. The brother to Scott and Alex Summers, Cyclops and Havok, respectively. He is an Omega level Mutant
Origin
Vulcan, Gabriel Summers
When the parents of Scott and Alex Summers were kidnapped by the alien race, Shi'ar, it appears that Katherine Summers was pregnant. The unborn child was seemingly killed along with Katherine by D'Ken, the Magestore of the Shi'ar.
The child was placed in an incubation accelerator and aged to adolescence in order to become a slave. Gabriel was sent to Earth to be the slave for a Shi'ar agent named Davan Shakari (who would later use the guise of Erik The Red).
Gabriel managed to escape and was found by geneticist, Moira MacTaggert. When the original X-Men were captured by the living island Krakoa, Professor X formed a new team of mutants. These new X-Men traveled to the island. Cyclops was freed while the rest of the new team seemingly died.
When Cyclops made his way back to Xavier, he was so distraught with the death of his newly discovered brother that Xavier felt it would be best if Scott had no recollection of what had happened.
For years it was believed that the island Krakoa let Cyclops go in order to bring more mutants to feed on. What truly happened was Gabriel and fellow teammate, Darwin, managed to survive in a suspended animation.
Upon awakening, Gabriel set into motion a plan to lure Xavier out of hiding. Cyclops and Marvel Girl were kidnapped and Banshee was killed. It was later revealed what had happened.
Vulcan left Earth, seeking to destroy the Shi'ar Empire and Cyclops demanded that Xavier leave the Xavier Institute. Xavier along with some X-Men went after Vulcan.
Vulcan made it to the main Shi'ar planet and ran amok before he was stopped by some of the imperial guard. Gladiator stopped him and in the process took his eye and the Shi'ar replaced it with a fake.
Vulcan still wanted to kill Xavier so when he was captured and given to the royal family Vulcan wanted him killed right after the wedding as a show of the new ruling family.
Despite the fact that he came to kill the Shi'ar he seem to get along very well with D'Ken and all the other members of the race. He also wanted Darwin to be his best man since he too was captured and was the closest thing that Vulcan had to a friend.
On the day for the wedding after Vulcan and Deathbird said the their I do's the X-men and the Starjammers crashed the wedding and tried to free Xavier and Darwin as well as shut Vulcan down for good.
In the heat of the battle Vulcan got his revenge on Xavier and seemingly killed him then he burned off D'Ken's face and shocked the whole Shi'ar Empire by taking D'Ken crown off his Dead body and proclaiming himself as the new Shi'ar ruler.
Vulcan revenge was cut short and Darwin saved Xavier from his fate. Both of them were taken to the Starjammers ship to be treated for their wounds.
Vulcan fought his brother Havok but Alex was no match for him and he beat Havok savagely until Polaris stopped him with her magnetic powers and she attacked him with all she had even messing with his bloodstream until he spit out blood. She would have killed him if Deathbird hadn't stopped her.
Vulcan was left weak and almost dying for the magnetic assault.
His father Corsair attacked him, telling him to stop and listen to his father but Vulcan said that he wasn't his father. He was just a man that was to weak to save his mother. With that said he unleashed a powerful blast that killed Corsair on contact.
This sent the fight raging out of control as the Starjammers and X-Men were in rage over his death. Marvel Girl was the next to fight Vulcan and they clashed until Vulcan was to weak to fight so Deathbird took him away to recover from the fight. As his first time in his reign as emperor, the Shi'ar are not happy that an outsider is their ruler, and this upsets Vulcan, but Deathbird said that the people will come to accept him. With the ensuing battle of the Imperial Guard and the Starjammers, Vulcan's ship was destroyed by another alien fleet calling themselves the Scy'ar Tal. Realizing that they are more powerful, Vulcan called for a temporary trues with his brother. When the brothers manage to stop the Scy'ar Tal. Vulcan seemingly betrayed Havok and threw him to the sun and ordered to destroy the Scy'ar Tal and the Starjammers. When Havok came back, absorbing the energy of the sun, he fought Vulcan. Before he could finish him off, the Imperial Guard held the Starjammers crew hostage and threatens to kill them if Havok will not yield. Vulcan sets out to bring back the Shi'ar empire after the arrest of the Starjammers.
A true megalomaniac War of Kings
After the Skrull invasion on Earth, the Inhumans planned on taking revenge on the Skrulls, as they attacked the Skrulls, three Shi'ar vessels were destroyed as well. Vulcan decides that he will take action and that the attack was an "invitation".
Vulcan kept Havok captive and tortured him in his cell. Havok was held captive along with fellow Starjammers Polaris, Raza Longknife and Ch'od. Vulcan assembled a new guard which was made of some of the most dangerous beings that the Shi'ar have ever encountered. The new guard was tasked to hunt down Rachel Summers, Korvus and empress Lilandra. Havok was able to escape his cell along with the rest of the Starjammers. Vulcan as unaware that Havok has freed himself and his crew, and has laid plans to make the planet Kr'kn the last resting place for emperor Vulcan. Korvus, Lilandra and Marvel Girl went to Kr'kn to try and rescue Havok and the other Starjammers. They didn't know that they were already able to escape their cells and were already planning to take Vulcan down. The prison systems were shortened out when Havok escaped and other prisoners were also able to escape. Havok decides to help the guards stop the criminals who broke free. As they fought, the new Shi'ar guard arrived to the scene and fought the Starjammers. after a while, Vulcan and the original Shi'ar guard arrive to the battle. Vulcan tells Havok that now he and the rest of the Starjammers will die.
As Vulcan prepares the Imperial Guard for their attack on the Inhumans, he tests the loyalty of the members and if they are willing to serve under him. Crystal of the Inhuman Royal Family was set to marry Ronan the Accuser in order to bring the Inhumans and Kree together. Their marriage was interrupted by the Imperial Guard and Shi'ar serving under Vulcan. Gladiator headed the assault on the Kree as Vulcan watched over from his ship. Gladiator took down Black Bolt with some assistance from White Noise. They also took Princess Lilandra captive during the battle. Crystal was being attacked but Ronan came to rescue her. Ronan also fell as he was double teamed by the guard. Gladiator and the rest of the guard fled as they said thay have made their statement. Medusa then shouted that the Shi'ar would pay for what they have done with their blood.
On the first day of the Shi'ar-Kree war, a world gets cremated by one of the Shi'ar Nega-Bombs. Gladiator watches on as the world is destroyed from Vulcan's flagship. Gladiator then goes to deliver Lilandra to Emperor Vulcan as he is in a good mood after seeing what the Nega-Bombs have done. Vulcan tries talking to Lilandra but she refuses and instead he watches as worlds burn. Kree worlds burn as they all watch on. After the last attack of Vulcan's Imperial Guard on the Kree, Hala was left in confusion and mass unrest. Medusa addresses the Kree that they should all calm down and report back to their duties. Another result of their last attack was the injury of Ronan. He should be dead but his still lives from his stubbornness and refusal to die. Many Kree are also sick and devastated from the Shi'ar attack. The Inhuman Royal Family, however, have been preparing echo-weapons to begin their counter-offensive on the Shi'ar. A war is exchanged between the Kree and Shi'ar and lasts for quite a while. Sentries are then launched from the Kree carrier ships and they start to sing with the power of Black Bolt. The Shi'ar are devastated and nothing was left of their warships. The Starjammers and Inhuman Elite then board a Shi'ar ship and are able to steal information from their datasphere and they find out the location of Lilandra. Vulcan hears about the news of what happened to his ships. He finds out that the entire battlegroup has been obliterated and nothing is left. Vulcan gets very angry and says that he will kill all of the Inhumans and all the Kree, starting with Lilandra.Vulcan then threatens to kill Lilandra, but is stopped by Admiral Ka'ardum. He explained to Vulcan that if he killed her, she'd be a martyr and they should keep her alive in order to make sure there is no successor to her throne. Gladiator agrees with the Admiral Gladiator checks on Lilandra. The Imperial Guard then assembles as they have been attacked. The Starjammers have come to save Lilandra but this time they brought extra help, The Guardians of the Universe. As the Imperial Guard fight against the combined forces of the Starjammers and Guardians of the Universe, Rocket Raccoon keeps Gladiator distracted while the others take on the rest of the Guard. Gladiator then realizes that Rocket Raccon is attacking his mind and not his body with the help of Marvel Girl's illusions. Gladiator easily defeats the Guardians and flies off to Lilandra. Smasher tries talking to Gladiator, but Gladiator kills him after he says that they should kill her. Gladiator then says that he serves at the pleasure of Empress Lilandra and he isn't loyal to Vulcan and his Guard anymore.
With Gladiator now serving under Lilandra and not Vulcan, the Shi'ar have lost one very formidable ally. The Inhumans, as well as the Kree are now trapped in a war that they do not want to fight. Vulcan meets and discusses with his admirals that they are in a war which their empire may not be able to afford. As they meet, a sentry from the Kree/Inhuman army which was made in the image of Black Bolt, attacked Vulcan. the admirals ordered their men to protect Vulcan but he decided to take down the sentry himself. Before he started a fight with the sentry, Talon from the fraternity of Raptors, destroyed the sentry. He says that the Shi'ar Majestor, Vulcan, is under his protection. Crystal and Ronan talk about how they must approach Black Bolt and tell him about how they feel about his actions in their war against the Shi'ar. They feel that the Inhuman program to uplift the Kree isn't working and that if Black Bolt hasn't been taking the right decisions by not acting aggressive and capitalizing on their opportunities is the war. Talon tells Vulcan about where he is from and about his mission, along with the rest of the Raptors, to protect and direct the great purpose. He explains that the great purpose is the Shi'ar Imperium Majestor. They were created to keep the Imperium strong and to make it last forever. Vulcan wonders why he has never heard of them and Talon explains that they have laid dormant for sixty centuries. He then shows Vulcan what happened when they struck a pact with Blastaar of the Negative Zone. Lilandra then faces the Shi'ar people and tells them that she is now back and in control of the throne. Some people, those who support Lilandra, are happy about this but others are angered as they are supporters of Emperor Vulcan. Lilandra and the Starjammers then head to the temple in order to renew her oath. However, they are then confronted by the Death Commandos (a wetwork squad serving under one of the chancellors who support Vulcan). They continue to fight but once the dust clears, Lilandra is seen in the arms of Gladiator and seemingly dead after getting shot by another Raptor, Razor, who was currently in control over the suit of Chris Powell, Darkhawk. Powell later takes control over the suit again, but as soon as he regains control over his suit, he gets attacked by Gladiator and Havok as they think it was him who killed Lilandra.
Powers
Enter the Phoenix Force
Vulcan appears to be a Omega level mutant (though he was erroneously called "above Omega" by Emma Frost). He can manipulate all forms of energy and, in one instance with the aid of his former teammate, Darwin, absorb the energy and powers of others, including those of his former teammates. Charles Xavier commented that he is the most powerful energy manipulator he had ever come across. His psionic powers even allow him to control the powers of others as he was able to prevent Cyclops and Marvel Girl from accessing their mutant abilities.
According to late information from creator Ed Brubaker, Vulcan has a "hidden potential" which allows him to fully generate and have control over the 7 elements (fire, earth, electricity, wind, water, darkness, and light). Due to this supposed/intended ability, it can be argued that Vulcan is a match for other god-like heroes or villains such as Silver surfer or Onslaught.
Vulcan has similar powers to that of his brothers, as they are each able to absorb certain kinds of energies and rechannel that energy from their bodies. Though his brothers, Cyclops and Havok, are known to be immune to each others powers, they are apparently not immune to Vulcan's (he manages to hurt Cyclops with no apparent trouble). This may be due to Vulcan's extremely high power level or his ability to control energies.
