LOL. Now you guys are too funny. I like Hespanoids, but Vance shouldn't be allowed to be African American. If the NAACP held an annual meeting on this matter, I think they would revoke his membership status. 8P"

Don't be ridiculous..You honestly to expect a grown female superhero to have little boobs because she's a model.C'mon man...this is comics not real life.Have you seen Ms.Top Model..Tyra Banks lately...her boobs and ass are looking mighty voluptuous.Vixen..just like Storm is going to sometime be draw like a white woman with brown skin.Every artist doesn't know how to do different races..especially when he is trying to make a female character acceptable to an audience that is mostly made up off late teen to mid-aged white men.Benes is only doing what he knows how.Black features are almost never done right and any form of art unless drawn by black people themselves. It want until the Boondocks that black characters began to look like they are supposed to.

I don't agree with you saying "This is comics not real life" . If we're going to have women with huge boobs, twisted in a way so their breasts are the focus of each picture, I want dudes with enormous junk on every cover, twisted in a way so the penis is the focus. Yes, I have seen Top Model. Look at the size of their breasts. It's a lot smaller then the way Benes is drawing hers.
If an artist doesn't know how to do different races, then they are either:

    a) Lacking talent, which Benes doesn't seem to be
    or
    b) Too lazy to research. Which I can see an artist doing.

NEWSFLASH: I'm a teenage white male. It is completely unacceptable to draw a black woman white. I don't care that black features are almost never drawn right unless drawn by black people. If an artist is that inflexible, that he can't learn to draw 15% of America, then he should quit."
1.Having dudes on the cover of comics with enormous junk doesn't appeal to the readers....curvy females do.If your straight...you could have fooled me with that sentence.
2.You dodge the question about Tyra Banks..I didn't ask you how the models looked I asked you how Tyra looked....
3.If Benes lacks talent or is lazy....he keeps getting work,so do you honestly think he cares?

NEWSFLASH: I am a grown black man...and I don't care if artist draw black female superheroes white. In fact I expect that from DC comics. Why would Benes quit his job that pays his bills because he can't draw black people? Do you realize how retarded that sounds? I think you just like whining.I hate Frank Quietly,Rob Leifield, and Steve Dillion...they are all terrible artist, but I don't go out of my way to tear them down....they are Marvel's and DC's problems and if people keep buying the books...they are going to keep getting work.

As a black person I have grown to understand that industries that make products I enjoy are dominated by white people (comics & video games),If they don't want to draw or model my people the way they look...oh well,I was expecting it anyway.People try to make black people look white in real life....Ever see Beyonce's Loreal Ad? Ever see the cover of Lil' Kim's last album? It's nothing new to me.Benes is a good artist in my opinion....if he wants to draw Vixen as a white woman...DC is letting him do it..so the people who matter obviously don't care.

    1. I don't care what appeals to readers. If you're going to objectify women, objectify men. Fair's fair. It'd be best if we left the porn out of superhero comics, though ...

    2.  OH NOES! Because a single woman has large breasts, all other models must have large breasts?

    3. Benes doesn't lack talent. I said that. I also said it seems like he's not doing the research.

I'm not saying Benes should quit his job, I'm saying Benes should become more versatile. If you don't like a product, criticize it. Maybe people will disagree and point out what you're saying is wrong, or maybe people will agree and then maybe the person selling the product will modify it.

Also, how can you hate Frank Quitely D: ?! FOR SHAME, FOR SHAME!

See to me, that sounds really sad. Like, "Oh well, they're not going to draw African people African or black people black so I might as well not hope" . That's just makes me sad that you don't think you should try to get them to change it.

Benes is most definitely a good artist, but if he were to draw Batman as black, or Superman as Asian, would DC stop that?

boy I'm so glad people took my forum topic to a whole another level to the point we are calling each other fang, retarded, and homophobic.

Honestly who really cares who lives with their mom.

Now my belief a good artist should try to portray as close to real life as possible. Once I saw Erik's post I was convince Vixen does look more white than black.
Hawkingbird is right about real models. Tyra Banks is the exception  only because she is retired. Alot of models either quit modeling or start their own clothing line and model for it after they age and began putting on alot of weight.

I am not sure what % of African Americans read comic books but just because P-diddy isn't aware of other Black Superheros doesn't mean alll black people are not aware of other black superheros.

Also just becaus Vance Astro is Black, does not mean his/ her statement if defines how other black people think and feel about how black superhero's are portrayed in comics, Vance's statement is his own personal opinion.

Now have a good day gentlemen, continue debating but no name calling.
    Thank you and good night

You know what would be fun?

If Vixen fell out of her costume in public or in the middle of a fight scene.  I don't even want to see it on panel, but I want that to be a plot point.

So embarrassing that she has to find something to wear that actually fits her.

Her outfit rules! Leave it alone. Name 10 super heroines who actually wear outfits that are realistically good in a fight.

1.Just like you don't care what appeals to readers..nobody gives a sh#t what's fair.Straight men objectify women..it's a common trait among straight men.Unless Benes is gay or female I don't think he's going to objectify men to please you and to be fair. There is no porn in superhero comics and if you believe otherwise you're reaching to prove a point. The majority of comic readers are male..therefore female characters will be made pleasurable to the eyes.

2.Tyra Banks isn't the only model with fair sized boobs.Vixen's boobs aren't that big either. You're over exaggerating to further whine about the fact that women are objectified in comics. It's not like they aren't objectified in real life or anything (sarcasm).

3.So what is the point of your argument?

Why make a silly protest about the way black characters look in comics? Every artist just isn't going to go the extra mile to make characters look race appropriate. It's not just black characters either. It's all races. There is no point of b#tching about it because I like some of the artists who don't actually go that extra mile and I don't care enough to make a fuss about it.Anyone who does has alot of time to waste.

" You douchebag. Just because something has been going on for a while doesn't make it acceptable. I have several problems with how he portrays Vixen. First of all, Vixen is BLACK. She is AFRICAN. She is NOT WHITE. She should have distinctly black African features. Second of all, she is a model. Large breasts are really, really rare in models. He has done some really cool covers, like JLA #24, and some awful ones, like #22 and 23. He's a talented guy who gets his work in on time and he deserves a big round of applause for that, but I can't say I'm a fan of his art. It's pure sexy sexy sexy!!! in a superhero comic. "

Goodness sake. Africa is a continent. It was never specified where in Africa Vixen comes from; its as if all African characters in comics are always vaguely described to be from "Africa" and that's it. NOT ALL AFRICAN PEOPLE LOOK THE SAME. There's no such thing as "African features". Supermodel Iman and Alex Wek look nothing alike. Is Iman less Black because her nose is thinner and her skin is lighter than Alex? I can post tons of black African models who I bet most people would accuse of "looking white".
